Chapter VIII The Weapons of our Warfare “Strong men in the Bible” I Samuel 28:7-9 7 Then Saul said to his servants “Find me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her.” And his servants said to him, “In fact, there is a woman who is a medium at En Dor.” 8 So Saul disguised himself and put on other clothes, and he went, and two men with him; and they came to the woman by night. And he said, “Please conduct a séance for me, and bring up for me the one I shall name to you.” 9 Then the woman said to him, “Look, you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off the mediums and the Spirits from the land. Why then do you lay a snare for my life, to cause me to die?” Numbers 5:14-16 14 If the spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he becomes jealous of his wife, who has defiled herself; or if the spirit of jealousy comes upon him and he becomes jealous of his wife, although she has not defiled herself 15 Then the man shall bring his wife to the priest. He shall bring the offering required for her, one-tenth of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil on it and put no frankincense on it, because it is a grain offering of jealousy, an offering for remembering, for bringing iniquity to remembrance. 16 And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the LORD. Song of Solomon 8:6 6 Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; for love is as strong as death, Jealousy as cruel as the grave; its flames are flames of fire, a most vehement flame. I Kings 22:21-23 21 “Then a spirit came forward and stood before the LORD, and said, ‘I will persuade him.’ 22 “The LORD said to him, ‘In what way?’ So he said, ‘I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his Prophets.’ And the LORD said, ‘you shall persuade him, and also prevail. Go out and do so.’ 23 “Therefore look! The LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these Prophets of yours, and the LORD has declared disaster against you.” II Chronicles 18:21-22 21 “So he said, ‘I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his Prophets.’ And the LORD said, ‘You shall persuade him and also prevail; go out and do so.’ 22 “Therefore look! The LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of these Prophets of yours, and the LORD has declared disaster against you.” Isaiah 19:14 4 The LORD has mingled a perverse spirit in her midst; and they have caused Egypt to err in all her work, as a drunken man staggers in his vomit. Isaiah 61:3 3 To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.” 53
