Flight attendant who kicked off heels and escaped L.A. airport surrenders to police in New York AMANDA LEE MYERS, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS LOS ANGELES — A JetBlue flight attendant accused of using her credentials to attempt to get 70 pounds of cocaine through airport security in Los Angeles before flinging off her Gucci heels and fleeing, has been arrested in New York, authorities said. Marsha Gay Reynolds surrendered Wednesday to federal authorities at John F. Kennedy International Airport, though it wasn’t immediately clear how she reached New York, federal officials said. Reynolds, a New York resident, was expected to be in federal court in Brooklyn on Thursday, according to U.S. Attorney’s spokesman Thom Mrozek.

Transportation Security Administration officials asked Reynolds to step aside for a random security screening Friday, authorities said. Reynolds went to a secondary screening area but quickly dropped her bag, ditched a pair of Gucci heels and fled barefoot downward on an upward-moving escalator, Marshall McClain, president of the union representing LAX airport police officers, said Monday. Reynolds was charged with cocaine possession with intent to distribute. It was unclear whether she yet had an attorney. Mrozek said prosecutors believe reports that Reynolds was a runner-up in Miss Jamaica World 2008. New York

University lists a Marsha-Gay Reynolds as having been on the school’s 2004

women’s track and field team, though it wasn’t immediately clear if that was the same Reynolds arrested Wednesday. On Friday, Reynolds arrived at an LAX checkpoint in Terminal 4 wearing jeans, heels and a black suit jacket, carrying her “known crew member badge,” according to an FBI affidavit in support of the charge against Reynolds. It wasn’t immediately clear whether she was on duty at the time. When Reynolds was chosen for a random security screening, TSA Officer Jamie Samuel said the flight attendant became nervous and began looking around before pulling out her cellphone and making a call, according to the affidavit.

Federal Budget 2016: Liberals project $30B deficit and do not plan a return to surplus by 2019

OTTAWA — The new Liberal government delivered a sunny ways budget Tuesday brimming with optimism and billion-dollar spending increases spread across a wide spectrum of Canadian society. But the bold effort to spur economic growth after almost a decade of fiscal restraint will add more than $100 billion to the federal debt over the next five years as Finance Minister Bill Morneau plunges Ottawa back into the red. And like March sunshine in the frozen national capital, there’s concern

that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s bright budget may not heat up the economy quite as much as the Liberals promised it would. “We act for the years and decades to come,” Morneau said in his maiden budget speech in the House of Commons. “We act for our children and our children’s children.” There’s billions in new spending on infrastructure, Aboriginal Peoples, and transfers to middle and lower income Canadians in a budget blueprint framed by Morneau in terms of Canada’s great post-war expansion of the last century. “Confidence inspired investment,” Morneau said of those high-growth, post-war decades. “Investment inspired confidence.” The Liberals claim their budget will create 100,000 jobs and boost national economic growth, as

Sexual Assault at 32500 South Fraser Way Business On March 14, 2016, at approximately 8:50 pm, a man entered a store in the 32500 block of South Fraser Way. He started a conversation with the lone female employee and followed her to the back of the store during which time he grabbed her and tried to kiss her. She was able to push the male back; telling the suspect to get out. The male then left the store. The victim called the police. The suspect is described a South Asian male in his late 20’s, standing approximately 6’1” tall with a thin build. The man has dark hair, a beard and acne. He was wearing a black Puma track suit and

black Adidas shoes (see security video still images). Anyone with information about this investigation should contact the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-8595225 or text 222973 (abbypd) or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

measured by gross domestic product, by half a percentage point per year — a huge increase on a $2 trillion economy. The promised sunny future comes with an immediate fiscal chill. The Liberals are projecting a $29.4-billion deficit in 2016-17, followed by a $29-billion shortfall the following year and almost $23 billion in 2018-19. Over the next five years, Tuesday’s budget shows $113.2 billion in red ink, including a $14.3 billion shortfall for 2020-21 — after the next scheduled federal election. During last year’s campaign, the Liberals promised “modest deficits” of no more than $10 billion over the course of their mandate and to balance the books by 2019-20. Times, it seems, have changed: The word “deficit” appeared nowhere in Morneau’s budget speech, nor did “spending.” “Investment,” on the other hand, registered 22 times. The relatively slim, 269-page document is packed with spending promises for all and sundry on every page. The final Conservative budget of April 2015, by contrast, weighed in at 518 pages while ratcheting down spending in a government-wide effort to show an election-year surplus. “I think budget 2016 runs the risk of over-reaching,” said Craig Alexander, vice-president of economic affairs at the C.D. Howe Institute. “The reality is the amount of money they have to make an impact is relatively limited.” It’s the central paradox of the first Liberal budget: while plunging the country back into deficit, Liberal spending is constrained by a worsethan-anticipated economy that forced the government to spread its election

promises over a longer time frame. Put another way, the federal deficit balloons by almost $25 billion in 2016-17, yet new budgetary measures are costed at only $11.57 billion. New spending the following year is forecast at $14.9 billion. “The challenge the government has faced is how do you actually deliver on as many of your election promises as you can, but with a binding fiscal constraint?” said Alexander. Over the last three years, federal spending was held to an average 0.4 per cent increase per year, said Mary Webb, senior economist at Scotiabank. The next three years show average increases of 6.3 per cent. “How do you close this gap here?” Webb wondered, short of tax increases or sharp cuts down the road. The budget promises a slew of studies and commissions to develop more innovative economic policy, presumably with future price tags on top of the many funding announcements in the current budget. These include: • $8.4 billion over five years to help indigenous communities, including $2 billion on water and wastewater systems in First Nations and $2.6 billion over five years for primary and secondary education on reserves. • $10 billion more over two years for a new Canada child benefit, absorbing and replacing both the Canada child tax benefit and the universal child care benefit. • $6.6 billion over two years for infrastructure, less than the $10 billion promised in the Liberal election platform. • $3.4 billion over five years to increase the guaranteed income supplement top-up benefit for single seniors, and restore the old age security eligibility age to 65 from 67. • $2 billion over three years for a new strategic investment fund for infrastructure improvements at colleges and universities. • $2 billion over two years for a low-carbon economy fund, beginning in 2017-18. Jean-Francois Perrault, chief economist at Scotiabank who served as a deputy minister at Finance Canada until the end of 2015, said the Liberals are over-confident in their projections of the budget’s impact on Canada’s economic growth. But he repeatedly praised the budget’s many specifics. “There’s a lot of interesting stuff in there,” said Perrault. “It’s a smartly designed piece of policy, no question about that.” BRUCE CHEADLE, THE CANADIAN PRESS

Rob Ford to lie in repose at City Hall ahead of funeral TORONTO - The big man will be back in City Hall one more time. And there will also be at least one more Ford Fest-style party to send Rob Ford off in style. “It will be a celebration,” his brother Doug Ford said Wednesday. “Rob would not want people sitting on their hands.” But the sombre event will come first. When Ford’s casket is brought to City Hall on Monday, it will in essence lie in state — although it’s technically considered lying “in repose.” Whatever they call it, when Ford enters City Hall, it will be historic. Toronto historian Mike Filey says sitting mayors — Sam McBride, who died in 1936, and Don Summerville, 1963 — and NDP leader Jack Layton, who was a former Toronto city councillor and died in 2011, lay in

repose at City Hall, but he believes Ford will be the first sitting councillor to do so. “We also believe Mr. Ford will be the first former mayor to lie in repose,” Filey said. The decision to grant the honour was ultimately Mayor John Tory’s — something Filey called a “fitting” and

“appropriate” response. A sombre Doug Ford said he appreciates the gesture from his former political rival, who also happens to be a longtime family friend. Tory said it wasn’t a difficult decision. “While all of these arrangements involved very personal decisions to be

made by the family, I was anxious to ensure they had our full support in determining how best to honour Rob’s life, including his public service,” Tory told me. “It was quite simply what I thought to be the right answer to a reasonable request and I think the people I serve will be very comfortable with it.” The biggest concern is how would Rob Ford feel about it? All involved understand they need to keep the cost down for fear of lightning bolts striking down from the afterlife. Ford’s wife, Renata, said she approves because the people of Toronto meant so much to him and he gave so much of himself to serve them. As in life, Rob Ford is bound to attract a huge crowd. There will likely be long lines of people who want to celebrate the life of the legendary former chief magistrate and father of two, who died Tuesday at the age of 46 after an 18-month battle with cancer. “Councillor Ford’s family wishes to express their gratitude for the thousands of messages of support they have received from around the world,” Dan Jacobs, his chief of staff, said in a press release Wednesday. “As difficult as it is to say goodbye, they would like to do so in the same manner in which he lived his life, by sharing it with the people.” BY JOE WARMINGTON, TORONTO SUN

Yo Yo Honey Singh Opens Up About Struggle With Bipolar Disorder, Alcoholism

In a tell-all interview to Bombay Times, rapper and music composer Yo Yo Honey Singh, who has turned 33 today, finally came clean on why he has been away from the public eye for nearly two years. "I know there were rumours that I was in rehab (for drug overdose), but I was in my Noida house throughout," he

was quoted as saying. "The truth is I was suffering from bipolar disorder. It went on for 18 months, during which I changed four doctors, the medication wasn't working on me and crazy things were happening." The 'Chaar Botal Vodka' singer added that he was also suffering from alcoholism, which only aggravated his mental condition. Singh, who has composed and featured in hit songs for various Bollywood films since 2012, confessed that the experience was "scary". "One year had passed and I wasn't responding to medicines, until a fourth doctor from Delhi treated me. At one point, I thought I would live in this darkness forever. I had cut myself off

from everyone. I didn't come out of my room, forget stepping out of the house. I had a beard and I didn't get a haircut for months. For someone who has performed in front of a crowd of 20,000, I was scared of facing 4-5 people. That's what bipolar disorder does to you." He credits his mother for helping him through this phase of his life, revealing that he wrote a song called 'Rise And Shine' — aside from 50-60 poems — after seeing his mother break down. "She is the only reason I'm here today," he said. He plans to publish those poems as well, admitting that some of them are "hard to understand". Making the decision to tell the

Refugee Readiness Teams ready for Syrian refugees VANCOUVER-Five community organizations have been chosen to lead Refugee Response Teams to help refugees settle and integrate into British Columbia communities. "British Columbians have shown tremendous generosity in welcoming refugees escaping the conflict in Syria. With the investment in these Refugee Response Teams, our government is helping connect newcomers with services and build a new life in the communities that they choose to settle in," says Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and Minister Responsible for Labour, Shirley Bond.

The teams are supported by a $500,000 investment from the $1-million Refugee Readiness Fund. They will identify and prioritize shortterm community needs to support a coordinated approach to helping refugees. For example, the teams may provide links with employers or other labour market opportunities and co-ordinate community supports. Organizations and their service area include: * MOSAIC, Metro Vancouver * DiverseCity, Fraser Valley

* Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre Society (VIRCS), Vancouver Island * Kelowna Community Resources Society, Thompson Okanagan * Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society of Prince George (IMSSPG), Cariboo The teams will have representatives from the refugee service-provider community: settlement organizations, private sponsors, churches, educators, health-care providers and employers. The ministry will continue to engage with settlement communities throughout the province to ensure that the teams have the capacity to support all incoming refugees.

The warning that comes from the North Vancouver RCMP is that police will be out on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 enforcing Distracted Driving laws at the intersection of Capilano Road and Marine Drive in North Vancouver. "During the afternoon commute our officers and volunteers will be joining forces with other agencies to bring awareness and enforcement to motorists", said Sgt. Bryce Petersen, Unit Commander of the North Vancouver RCMP Traffic Unit. "We are giving out this public warning in the hopes our officers will not catch any violators that day – that may be wishful thinking!" Statistics show the following to be true: Firstly, that one in four deaths on B.C. roads involves distracted driving and secondly that drivers are five times more likely to crash if they are using their phones while driving. Opinion: Ghomeshi trial exposed flaws in justice system BY ADRIENNE MOYA, VANCOUVER SUN

Violence rocks to the core our belief that the men whom we trust, look up to, and look to for protection are good, unselfish, and truly care for our wellbeing. As women we want to believe the men we love do not really want to hurt us as much as we want to believe our justice system will protect us if they do. What we know from our work supporting women through the criminal justice system is that the Ghomeshi trial is in many ways painfully accurate to the experiences of the women who navigate this offender-based system that often re-traumatizes the survivor. However, we also know that a major part of our work with women who engage in this system is believing them and empowering them to walk away with something. Whether their police file is eventually closed or Crown drops charges, we want women to walk away with something that can’t be taken away. For some women this sense of justice comes from having an armed

Cabbie Harmeet Singh jailed after police find suitcase with cash -Shannon Deery Herald SunHarmeet Singh leaves a previous court appearance. Picture Ian Currie. A CABBIE has thrown up in court after being jailed for 14 months over a crime that lasted just seven minutes. Harmeet Singh, 37, hadn’t even driven his Maxi-Taxi far enough to earn himself a $10 fare when he was pulled over by police in October 2013. He had no passengers, but police had spent a week on his tail and knew what they were looking for. Inside the cab they found a suitcase stuffed with $500,000 in cash, smashing open an unsophisticated money laundering operation. It is still not known where they money had come from, or where it was going, but Singh was taking orders from an associate in India. He had collected the money from a US citizen known as Mendoza, who had travelled to Melbourne for the operation.

After collecting the cash, Singh drove seven minutes to his Ringwood home where he was intercepted by police in his driveway. He told them he had collected money for his Indian associate before, but never in such large quantities. Singh pleaded not guilty to a charge of dealing with the proceeds of crime in an amount greater than $100,000. He had offered to plead guilty to a lesser charge, on the basis he didn’t know how much money he was carrying, but

prosecutors rejected his claim. He was found guilty by a County Court jury, following two trials, but today continued to protest his innocence even after being jailed. “Can I say something,” he pleaded with Judge Meryl Sexton. “I didn’t do anything.” The outburst came after Singh vomited in the dock, forcing his sentence to be temporarily halted. The idea that Singh had no idea what he was carrying on the day of his arrest was a notion completely dismissed by Judge Sexton. She found he was an integral part of the money laundering operation. “I am satisfied your conduct in this offence was not fleeting and not restricted to the seven minutes or less that you were knowingly in possession of the $500,000,” she said. Singh must complete nine months of his sentence, then can be released on a two-year $1000 recognisance order.

Sukhvir Badhesa has been charged with seconddegree murder in death of Surrey woman Charges have been laid in the murder of a 61-year-old woman in Surrey early Sunday morning. The RCMP was called to a home in the 10100-block of 128A Street around 5:40 a.m. after receiving reports of a disturbance. Mounties found a woman with life-threatening injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A 35year-old woman was also found with non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital. The RCMP arrested a man at the home who they say is related to both women. Officers are calling the incident a “domestic violence related homicide.” Sukhvir Badhesa, 39, has been charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and uttering threats. shortly arrested. Mary said Abdeslam had initially cooperated with the investigators but was fighting extradition, reports CNN. Investigators suspect that Abdeslam was probably going to be part of an attack being planned by the ISIS that carried out blasts in Brussels airport and in the city's metro. Abdeslam said that he did not know about the plans. Belgian federal prosecutor Frederic Van Leeuw identified Ibrahim El Bakraoui as one of two suicide bombers at the Brussels airport and his brother, Khalid El Bakraoui, as the man behind a deadly suicide blast about an hour later on a train near the Maelbeek metro station. Meanwhile, a court hearing in Brussels on Abdeslam's detention has been postponed till April 7. Earlier in the day, the EU's law enforcement agency Europol has warned that Brussels attacks showed that a network of at least 5,000 terrorists suspects were more dangerous than previously feared. Confirming that there is a connection of the Brussels bombers to November's attacks in Paris, Head of Europol, Rob Wainwright warned of new aggressive strategy of attacks by Islamic State, reports the Guardian. Here’s why men die earlier than women Washington D.C, (ANI): Hey men, your pretentious toughness is taking away years from your life. A new study has found that the tougher men think they are, the less likely they are to be honest with their doctors. Men are less likely than women to go to the doctor, more likely to choose a male doctor when they do go, but less likely to be honest with that doctor about their symptoms, Rutgers psychologists have found. The researchers believe this may contribute to men's dying earlier than women. "The question that we wanted to answer was, why do men die earlier

than women?" said researcher Diana Sanchez, adding "Men can expect to die

five years earlier than women, and physiological differences don't explain

Long naps put you at greater metabolic syndrome risk Washington B.C, (ANI): A new study has linked long naps and daytime sleepiness to greater risk of metabolic syndrome. Specifically, napping for 40 minutes or longer was associated with a steep increase in the risk of developing metabolic syndrome, a collection of health conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, excess fat around the waist and high blood sugar that all increase a person's risk for heart disease. Being overtired during the day was also associated with an increased risk of metabolic syndrome. "Taking naps is widely prevalent around the world," said lead author Tomohide Yamada from the University of Tokyo, adding "So, clarifying the relationship between naps and metabolic disease might offer a new

strategy of treatment, especially as metabolic disease has been increasing steadily all over the world." This meta-analysis evaluated data from 21 observational studies involving 307,237 Asian and Western subjects and builds on previous work by Yamada and

his colleagues that tied lengthy naps and daytime sleepiness to a greater prevalence of heart disease and type-2 diabetes. This study is the group's largest analysis to date of data collected from a number of countries. The results showed a J-shaped relationship between time spent napping and metabolic syndrome risk. Subjects who napped for less than 40 minutes did not show any increased risk for metabolic syndrome, but beyond 40 minutes, risk sharply rose. Napping for 90 minutes appeared to increase metabolic syndrome risk by as much as 50 percent, as did being excessively tired during the day. Interestingly, there was a slight dip or decrease in the risk of metabolic syndrome among those napping less than 30 minutes.

that difference." Researcher Mary Himmelstein and Sanchez found that men who held traditional beliefs about masculinity that men should be tough, brave, selfreliant and restrained in their expression of emotion were more likely to ignore medical problems, or at least put off dealing with them, than women or than men with less traditional beliefs. Ironically, the researchers found, men tend to be more honest about their medical symptoms with female doctors, because, Sanchez theorizes, to be honest about vulnerabilities causes them no loss of status with women. Himmelstein says. "Men have a cultural script that tells them they should be brave, self-reliant and tough. Women don't have that script, so there isn't any cultural message telling them that, to be real women, they should not make too much of illnesses and symptoms." The studies are published in Preventive Medicine and The Journal of Health Psychology. (ANI)

Hrithik's legal notice to Kangana baseless, says her lawyer Actress Kangana Ranaut's lawyer says he sent a counter notice to actor Hrithik Roshan on behalf of his client as his demand that she tender a public apology to him for defamation is baseless. The controversy between the two actors, who were rumoured to have been dating in the past, has taken an ugly turn with both of them slapping legal notices against each other. While Hrithik sent a legal notice to Kangana a few days ago for tarnishing his image, the actress' lawyer Rizwan Siddiquee told IANS: "There was a notice sent by Hrithik's lawyer. It was regarding the application of mind...because notice of defamation was sent to Kangana without showing any such instances where the defamation was actually made out. "There was no case made in the notice, so it was an absolutely baseless and useless notice. I sent a counter notice to them." Siddiquee said that while Hrithik

has claimed that he does not know Kangana socially, he has enough "substance" to prove otherwise. "Hrithik has been attending my client's birthday party, my client has been attending his birthday party, his father's birthday party... This is social meeting only," the lawyer said. According to the notice, Hrithik reportedly wants Kangana to hold a press conference and tender an apology to him, making it clear that she had not

Salman's 'Kick 2' to roll next year Producer-director Sajid Nadiadwala says they are working on the script of the second installment of Salman Khan-starrer 'Kick'. Sajid Nadiadwala's directorial venture 'Kick' was an official remake of a Telugu movie of the same name. "We are still writing. It's in scripting stage. It will mostly happen next year. There is a pressure, but we are working hard on the script," Sajid told PTI. In 'Kick', Salman played the role of Devi Lal Singh, a highly intelligent but adventurous man who is always looking for a 'kick' in his life. The 'Dabangg' Khan had announced that 'Kick 2' will have a fresh pairing, and that Jacqueline won't be a part of the sequel. Sajid has an interesting slate of films lined-up for release as a producer, like 'Baaghi' starring Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor, John Abraham-Varun Dhawan starrer 'Dishoom', Vishal Bharadwaj's 'Rangoon' and the third installment of comic caper 'Houseful'. hinted at Hrithik Roshan as her 'silly ex'. However, Siddiquee has questioned why is Hrithik considering that he is the "silly ex" that Kangana once mentioned to the media. "Most importantly, when Kangana says my 'silly ex', why does this gentleman react and claims he was only the silly ex. She didn't take anybody's name... You (Hrithik) gave this statement on Twitter that 'I would rather date a Pope...', which was followed up with the notice." Issues began when Kangana hinted at Hrithik being her 'ex' when she said in an interview that she fails to understand "why exes do silly things to get your attention". The topic in discussion was Hrithik's hand in getting Kangana replaced by Sonam Kapoor in "Aashiqui 3". In an indirect dig to that, Hrithik had later tweeted: "There are more chances of me having had an affair with the Pope and any of the (I'm sure wonderful) women the media has been naming. Thanks but no thanks.` This set the stage for their legal war which has begun now. By Santa Banta News Network

Horoscope

Apna Roots, March 25th, 2016

You may need to convince yourself that you have what it takes to succeed this week. Indeed, this is going to be the hardest part of (Mar. 21- April 19) the process. And even if you don't really think you can do it, you might be better off pretending that you can. The reason is that a splendid alignment of energies midweek could see you just getting on with it. You may teeter on the edge of your comfort zone for a while, but then you'll just go for it.

What your friends say may count for a lot this week, which is why you shouldn't pay too much attention. If you listen closely, you'll notice that their opinions change like the weather. For instance, if they label you an opportunist for spotting a great deal and (Apr. 20- may 20) wanting to take advantage of it, you should go ahead anyway. By the weekend there's a good chance they'll wish they had followed your advice. Stick to your guns no matter what anyone says. The reason you get to shine this week may not be because of someone but in spite of them. Indeed, a positive blend of energies at the top of your chart could see you making a special effort to realize a goal or (May 21-June 21) dream. And even if others object, you'll have the faith to keep going. On another note, a positive midweek alignment could see you investing in property or benefiting from your family's generosity or sharing in a stroke of good fortune There's so much to explore that you could be occupied for hours on end with all the information and opportunities you uncover. Even so, it's just as well that you have responsibilities to attend to, as they help keep your feet on the ( June 22-July 22) ground. Over the days ahead there could be many reasons why you're tempted to drop the mundane in pursuit of the mysterious and alluring. However, keep your eyes peeled, as another more practical and perhaps lucrative option could show up.

Dear SOS Dear SOS: I am a modern person who feels people have the right to live their lives as they choose. Because of that I have given my children the right to decide what they want, where they want to go and who their friends are. I have taught them to differentiate right from wrong. I believe my kids are good kids. That example was shown to me recently. We were recently at a family party and my sister-inlaw and brother-in-law came in with their two daughters and I was very surprised to see how they were dressed. The girls were wearing dresses that sat very high on their thighs. And the neckline ran down to the point that the girls’ cleavages were showing to a point that it’s not appropriate at any function let alone at a family function. But their parents seem oblivious to this fact. This gathering was a mixed crowd

You could be a big spender this week. You may not be satisfied with small luxuries and feel the urge to splurge on something big and expensive. This (July 23-Aug 22) might be the case if you've been hard at work lately and want to reward yourself. Even so, you could be in trouble if your outflow exceeds your income. New adventures could beckon once the Sun dances into Aries on Saturday. If you're eager for some fun in the Sun, you might want to make travel plans. You may find other people to be quite distracting this week, particularly if you're very excited about a project or new business idea. With that in mind, you'll need to find a way to manage your time so that you can continue to make progress while still (Aug. 23 - Sept. 22) fulfilling your responsibilities to family and friends. You might have to be firm regarding one person, especially if he or she can't (or won't) acknowledge the fact that you occasionally need your own space.

Although time may be of the essence, you could find many reasons to waste it. A major focus on your zone of work and lifestyle could see you inventing all kinds of reasons not to get on with deadlines or other important activities. However, (Sept. 23 -Oct. 23) you'll have no problem watching a movie or reading a fantasy novel. Even so, a major midweek alignment could encourage a little self-inquiry and motivate you to overcome your lassitude in order to smash through your to-do list. Money, or the lack of it, could be the reason that you need to cut back on leisure activities or social events. A tight blend of energies, with Saturn at the apex, could see you reining in your spending and making the most of the (Oct. 24 - Nov. 21) money you have. But you don't have to give up having fun or socializing altogether. If you look at your expenses, you may find that with a little bit of tweaking you can continue to enjoy life without bankrupting yourself.

with a 1/4 percent of the crowd made up of Beejis and Baba jis and a ¼ percent made up of young people in their mid twenties or younger and the rest of people were in their forties and fifties. I saw the ladies roll their eyes when they saw these girls. I actually felt embarrassed. But no one said anything to the girls or to their parents. When we came home, I was surprised to have my kids make comments about how the girls’ dresses were not appropriate. They wondered why the parents did not say anything. They said there is a place and a time to wear clothes like this and this was not one of them. They asked me if I would allow them to wear anything like this to a party, where most of the crowd was Indian Beejis, Baba jis, Aunties and Uncles. My answer was no. Now, this is not to say that my girls don’t wear shorts or short dresses

It might seem like you're in the hot spot and that the buck stops with you in the week ahead. However, a particularly uncomfortable blend of energies might also mean that you feel pressured into taking certain actions. Before you proceed, be sure (Nov 22- Dec 21) to assess the state of play. Your plan may not be practical, and you might need further work to refine your strategy. If in doubt, get feedback from someone you trust. This could be crucial to your success. You'll need to keep your wits about you this week, as someone could appear charming yet try to pull the wool over your eyes. However, you'll manage fine if you employ your ability (Dec 22.- Jan. 19) to detect a dubious deal. One opportunity might excite you, especially as it could offer you the chance to broaden your horizons. However, you'll need to be patient if you're to see results. Once the Sun eases into your home zone, it will be time to nurture yourself. While it's great to be generous, you may find that others are starting to take advantage of your kindly nature, which might leave you wondering how to respond. Don't feel guilty about nipping this in the bud. You'll feel so much better if you do. Inside, you may be (Jan. 20 -Feb. 19) burning to take advantage of an opportunity that could be good for you, but the time may not be right just yet. This chance should be around for a while, so there's no need to worry. All eyes are on you, as you seem to be the flavor of the week! However, while others might enjoy your company, you could have conflicting (Feb. 20 -Mar. 20) ideas about whether to invest in a plan that might see you making big gains on the career front. Indeed, you could feel pulled in a number of directions that might be due to others' expectations of you, including your own. If you were to collaborate with a person or group, you might achieve more than you could alone.

but they are always in decent length and don’t shout to everyone to come look at me. I too am surprised at their parents for not saying anything. My kids questioned why no one said anything to them. Well, I have no answer and I also questioned why no one said anything. These are parents who are always the first to make negative comments about other people’s children. Shocked in Surrey Dear Shocked in Surrey: I have found those who make lots of fuss about other people’s children usually end up with their own kids doing things they have objection too. This might be just the case in this situation. If these people are like you say they are then I am sure that they know what their girls were wearing, and it’s not something they should wear to family parties. But maybe the parents in question have no control over their girls and they don’t listen to what the parents say. You should be glad that you have raised your children well and stop worrying about other people and their children.

When Sonam called Ash 'aunty'

When Sonam Kapoor had signed up to endorse a grooming product with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, she had referred to Ash as aunty Sonam Kapoor has clinched yet another ad deal. She will be the face of a jewellery brand that had Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as its ambassador for the last few years. Ash had courted controversy last year in one of its ads which was considered racist. They two actresses endorse a grooming product together. In fact, when Sonam had signed it, she had referred to Ash as aunty. Her father (Anil Kapoor) had acted with the former beauty queen in 'Taal' (1999) and 'Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai' (2000), so Sonam felt it was okay to call her aunty.

Review "Zubaan", a musical drama, is the journey of Dilsher Singh (Vicky Kaushal) to self- realisation. How he grows from an insecure lad to a confident, manipulative young man, travelling from his hometown Gurdaspur to Delhi, ready to write his own destiny, is interesting. In the first act, Dilsher is pleased with the response he gets when business tycoon Gurucharan Sikand says that he recognises him. Awestruck and dumbfounded, Dilsher reiterates, "mainu pechanaji?" (do you recognise me?). This insignificant moment lays the ground for the crux of the story to unfold. The screenplay with a layered narration, well-etched characters and gripping performances, make "Zubaan" real and stand out. The adept manner in which the back stories are inextricably woven into the main narrative is praiseworthy. Director Mozez Singh succeeds in making the tale interesting, interspersing it with the right amount of drama and emotions. The pace meanders at times and the sub-plot embellished with trance music captured with moody atmospheric lighting is a bit exaggerated, superfluous and unwarranted especially the "Dhruvtara" sequence. Vicky Kaushal as Dilsher, who has lost his confidence and developed a

portrayal. Whether it is the flawless Punjabi accent with a stammer or singing with gusto, he gets into the skin of his character with ease. The actor playing the young Dilsher is equally good and in sync with Vicky in mannerisms, body language and is aptly cast. Sarah Jane-Dias as Amira, a singer who inspires Dilsher and plays his love interest, is competent but leaves no impact as an actor. Manish Chaudhari as Dilsher's idol, the ambitious and scheming business tycoon Gurcharan Sikand, who he fondly calls, "Tayaji" delivers a power-packed performance. Raghav Chanana as Surya Sikand, Gurcharan's son, who is insecure and constantly seeking his father's acceptance, essays his role brilliantly too. Meghna Malik as Mandira Sikand, Gurcharan's wife, is effective and makes the most of her limited screen time as an actor. The music of the film plays a pivotal role. The numbers, "Ajj sanu o mileya" and "Mitar pyare nu" are melodious and inspiring. They fit well into the context of the tale. Swapnil Sonawane's cinematography suitably captures and depicts the mood of the film. His camera angles and movements are unique. The editing by Deepa Bhatia is crisp and helps in enhancing the viewing experience. "Zubaan" is a well made motivational film worth a watch.

'Jai Gangajal' - Jha plays safe with his tried and tested formula In this sequel to his 2003 release, 'Gangaajal', Prakash Jha plays safe by sticking to what he knows best, exposing the ugly underbelly of the political scenario in Bihar. He does manage to spring a surprise, not by introducing anything exceptionally novel in the script, but by launching himself as an actor in the film. Jha plays a pivotal role of a corrupt police officer, Bhola Nath Singh aka B.N. Singh in this one. SP Abha Mathur (Priyanka Chopra) is strategically transferred to the lawless land of Bankipur district in Bihar. A politician (Kiran Karmarkar) has helped her family in childhood and so puts her in the `important" posting, hoping that she will help him to help the 'goonda raj' of the local MLA Bablu Pandey (Manav Kaul) thrive. Abha, however, turns out to be more upright than they expected her to be. She intuitively mistrusts her immediate junior B.N. Singh and single-

handedly tries tackling the 'goondaism' by Bablu and his brother Dabloo Pandey (Ninad Kamat) as they go around usurping acres and acres of land. Abha is chafing against the system, non co-

operative seniors and juniors till a tragic incident changes the situation dramatically. Even though Priyanka is believable and extremely sincere in playing an honest to the fault cop, she's handicapped with a clumsily etched out role and she unfortunately ends up coming across as someone who is not too really as bright and agile as her position suggests. There are certain scenes, like the one where she daringly canes a sidekick right in the middle of a busy street, which shows us what Priyanka

would have been capable of if she had a more intelligently written role. Those stray scenes also remind us of the command that Jha as a director has while executing strong scenes of this kind. But ironically Abha seems to have lost out on Jha the actor, because the film is evidently designed to centre around Jha's character and his journey. The story (by Jha) tackles an extremely disturbing trend of mob lynching, but what is also disturbing is that the story teller himself seems to be sympathetic with the mob and appeared to have no clear ethical stand on it. Manav Kaul is very good as ever, but it is Ninad Kamat who steals the show as he brilliantly plays the role of ruthless Dabloo Pandey, who wouldn't stop at anything to achieve what he wants. One must admit here that Jha surprises with his ease in front of the camera and decent acting abilities, but quite often the camera focuses a little too indulgently on him. Jha yet again successfully revisits the world he's so familiar with, the rampant hooliganism, the fascinating and colourful lingo that we are all familiar with, largely thanks to Jha's earlier films. At two hours forty minutes, the film is a bit too long and tends to get predictable at many parts.

Is your business ready to export? (NC) Entrepreneurs envision growth when interest in their product or service is generated abroad. So if you find yourself unexpectedly entering the international market, be aware that your business will need an export plan. Here are a few scenarios: The accidental exporter You receive an order from a client in another country who found your products via your website. You decide to fill the order and thus become an accidental exporter. To get the most out of this new opportunity, you will need to know about the regulations governing the exporting of your products, both in Canada and in the destination country. This will ensure that you are in compliance with any quotas, licences and

with other procedures.

Protect your children from liquid laundry detergent packets (NC) Liquid laundry detergent packets are small and often brightly coloured, and with their squishy texture, children can easily mistake them for candy. These products often contain highly concentrated cleaning products that are dangerous if ingested or if they come into contact with eyes or skin. Similar products, like dishwasher detergent packets, could pose the same risks. Young children often put things in their mouths, and small objects such as liquid laundry detergent packets easily fit into a child's hand. Children who swallow the packets may experience a variety of serious symptoms including severe abdominal

pain, vomiting, breathing difficulty or even death. The best way to protect your child and prevent a serious injury is to store liquid laundry detergent packets safely. Keep them locked away and out of sight and reach of children. It's also best to keep the local poison control centre number handy, in case of an emergency. To report an incident, contact the manufacturer or retailer. You are also encouraged to contact Health Canada.

The uninformed exporter You have successfully filled one or two orders from clients living in other countries. Are you interested in exploiting this new market and offering your services to as many people as possible? Make sure to avoid the pitfalls that await the uninformed exporter. Many resources are available to tackle concepts such as: • Figuring out if your company is ready to make the leap; • Conducting export market research to identify business opportunities and the competition; • Drawing up an export plan to set out the procedure to follow.

Entrepreneurs taking on the world Your company is well established in Ontario and its results are encouraging. You decide to expand your client base and offer your products worldwide. Be careful because diversifying too quickly can mean serious risks for your company. This can be minimized by using specialized services to help you find markets with more potential and with the expertise to point out particular characteristics of each country, including: • Business customs • National currency • Trade agreements • Restrictions specific to particular countries. Taking the time for proper preparation before exporting can lead to more success in marketing your products and services abroad. Business advisors agree, however, that it is just as important to consolidate your presence in local markets before tackling foreign ones. To find out more about exporting, phone Canada Business Ontario (CBO) at 1-888-576-4444 / (TTY) 1-800-4578466, or visit canadabusiness.ca online. CBO is a service provided through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). Helpful hints to make money goals stick (NC) While everyone sets out with the best of intentions, the truth is that making goals is easier than following through with them, especially when it comes to personal finance. But with a little preparation you can be the exception to the rule. Prioritize Goals While you may think that saving money, getting promoted at work and earning a significant pay increase are all great aspirations, you may be biting off more than you can chew. Determine one or two top priorities so you can fully devote yourself to them. Make Measurable, Attainable Objectives Once you've set your money-saving aspirations, determine how you'll measure success. For example, if you are saving for your dream vacation, how much do you need to set aside for the trip and how much do you need to save each month to reach that goal. Then, set shortand long-term milestones to help you stay motivated. Save for a Rainy Day Putting away a small amount every week for emergencies can add up to big savings in the long run. The $4 coffee you purchase each morning and weeknight takeout can add up quickly – start by cutting these nonessential costs and deposit the money in your savings account. Replace Household Items Even though your refrigerator or fixtures may be working fine, they may be using more energy or water than they should. To save on water bills choose a

enhanced resistance to abrasion, corrosion and chemicals. Repurpose Your Stuff One way to save is by repurposing what you already own. Take a weekend to clean out closets, empty storage units and breathe new life into items by refinishing furniture or updating existing pieces of clothing. You can even sell clothes you don't wear as often on websites like eBay or Poshmark.

Add extra home security when on vacation (NC) Making a home look occupied when it's not is crucial for keeping our valuables safe, says Sally Morse, the director of creative services for Hunter Douglas, a leading window treatment company. “We've all heard about keeping some lights on, a car in the driveway, the snow plowed, mail and newspaper deliveries put on hold, but now you can adjust your window shades even when you are not at home,” says Morse. “With our PowerView Motorization you can pre-program

your window treatments to specific positions. Raise them during the day, lower them at night, or raise some and lower others to avoid suspicion – all without being there.” The system helps with the security of your home and offers peace-of-mind even if you're miles away. And, if you decide you want to change the position of your window treatments when you're on that Polynesian island, the RemoteConnect feature allows you to do it with an Internet

Heat up Your Savings If you rely on oil to heat your home, contact your energy provider to determine whether you can pre-pay to lock into lower rates. This way, you won't have to worry about rising prices. Setting achievable goals and planning ahead can put you on the right track toward long-term success.

How to bring your community together (NC) Canada is a nation that prides itself on multi-culturalism and opportunity. Our diverse cultural heritage provides a welcoming environment for individuals and families. Building social connections and a sense of belonging brings people together in ways that strengthen individual relationships as well as whole communities. There are several things that you can do to develop strong social connections and a sense of belonging: Plan community events: One of the simplest ways to bring a community together is through shared experience. Events like an international food festival, a sports league featuring activities from around the world, and health and wellness programs drawing on different cultures, are excellent ways of bringing

people together. Think outside your box: Learning about different cultures and practices can open your mind to a whole new way of

life. Many of us get caught up in our own routines and practices and forget that there are other ways of doing things. Try talking to different community members,

ranging from youth to seniors, to understand their take on the world. Invite individuals of different cultures to participate in community planning to ensure that every voice is heard. Try new things: Positively impacting your community can go beyond volunteering your time and resources. Consider getting involved in your community by working for the 2016 Census as an enumerator or a crew leader. Census enumerators are responsible for identifying dwellings on maps, conducting personal interviews, and following up with respondents in person and by phone, while crew leaders are responsible for leading, training and supervising a team of enumerators. These positions provide an opportunity to meet new people and build relationships with members of your community. A strong feeling of unity in a community can make residents feel comfortable and at home. Information on census jobs is available online at www.census.gc.ca/jobs.

(NC) Retirement can be a big adjustment. For some, a change in pace can be difficult. For a smooth transition into retirement, it's important to find fulfilling activities to stay busy and engaged. For many people, work fills the largest chunk of their time. A career helps shape our identity and when it's taken out of the equation, many people feel a sense of loss or displacement. One way to address these feelings is to find new activities that allow interaction with others. There are many ways to stay physically and mentally active, from joining a book club or signing up for an exercise class at a local community centre, to travelling or simply spending time with family. Temporary work can provide an excellent opportunity to keep busy. Statistics Canada is offering retirees an opportunity to engage with their communities, stay active and earn a modest income working as an enumerator or a crew leader for the 2016 Census. Census enumerators are responsible for identifying dwellings on maps, conducting personal interviews, and following up with respondents in person and by phone. This type of work is ideal for maintaining interpersonal and organizational skills. Crew leaders are responsible for leading, training and supervising a team of enumerators.
