Two arrested in world-wide multimillion dollar pyramid scheme operated out of Toronto

THE CANADIAN PRESS Toronto police have charged two men in an alleged multimillion-dollar pyramid scheme that involved thousands of participants around the world. Police say the scheme known as “Banners Broker” was operated out of a Toronto address between October 2010 and March 2013. They say it offered participants the opportunity to double their money by investing in an advertising company that had access to a “globally renowned network.” The scheme’s participants were led to believe their investments were being applied towards a program offering payment for the direction of web traffic via referral links. Police say the program’s existence was entirely dependant on the fee-based entry of new members to the scheme, and that little or no real product or

service was actually provided. They say new investors were drawn into the scheme by false or misleading representations. By the end of 2012, police say more than US$93 million was obtained from thousands of participants, of which about $45 million was paid back to participants in the scheme. The remaining funds were funnelled to a number of offshore accounts in Belize, St. Lucia, Cyprus and other locations. Police say Christopher George Smith, 45, of Toronto, and Rajiv Dixit, 45, of Vancouver, have been arrested. They have been charged with defrauding the public, possession of proceeds of crime and laundering proceeds of crime. They have also been charged under the Competition Act with operating a pyramid scheme and making false or misleading representations.

Finance Minister Bill Morneau says tax changes to take $1.2 billion more out of coffers OTTAWA — The Liberal government is poised to make good on its promise to cut federal income taxes for middle earners by raising the rate on the richest Canadians — cuts that the government admits won’t be revenueneutral. Finance Minister Bill Morneau is conceding for the first time that the changes are going to cost the federal treasury $1.2 billion annually, starting in the 2016-17 fiscal year. The government has introduced a motion in Parliament lowering the income-tax rate on Canadians earning between $45,282 and $90,563 per year from 20.5 per cent from 22 per cent, to take effect starting Jan. 1. To offset most of that tax-rate change, the Liberals are also imposing a higher tax rate of 33 per cent on earners in the top one per cent — those who make more than $200,000 per year. Morneau says the government is being forthright with Canadians about the total cost of the tax changes. Those changes also include cancelling a Conservative plan to increase limits on tax-free savings accounts from $5,500 to $10,000. “We are starting today with middleclass tax breaks, a key part of our

initiative,” Finance Morneau told the House of Commons on Monday. “Today is the day where we have said we are going to reduce middle-class taxes by asking those Canadians who are doing very well to pay a little bit more. This is an important first part in our tax program.” But some say the tax changes, a central pledge in the campaign platform that helped propel the Liberals to victory in October, are likely to cost public coffers more than the government expected and could provide more benefit to richer Canadians. For example, a study released Monday by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives found that higherincome earners — those who make more than $124,000 — would benefit most from the middle-class rate cut as long as they did not earn enough to land in the new upper bracket above $200,000. Those making more than $90,563 are taxed at three different rates: one rate on the first segment of income up to $45,282, the second, newly reduced rate on the next segment of income, up to $90,563; and a third rate beyond that, up to $200,000. As a result, they will realize a greater total benefit from the middlebracket cut than will

government is facing increasing pressure to meet its election vows to cap annual deficits at $10 billion over the next two years and to balance the federal books in the fourth year of its mandate. Morneau has said the Liberals are facing a slower economy and a worsethan-expected fiscal environment handed over from the former Conservative government. “We have inherited a situation that is more challenging than what was foreseen in the budget,” he said. Last month, Morneau announced a $3-billion deficit forecast for the current fiscal year. In April, the Tories projected a $2.4-billion surplus for 2015-16 — including the $1 billion set aside for contingencies. The proposed changes to the tax brackets will help boost the economy, the Liberals say. Last week, however, Morneau backed away from the Liberal vow to keep annual shortfalls under $10 billion in 2016-17 and 201718. He said the government would focus on its pledges to invest in infrastructure, lower the federal debt-to-GDP ratio and balance the books before the next election, but dodged when asked directly about the party’s promise to keep annual shortfalls under the $10-billion ceiling. an income earner whose annual salary lands within that bracket, the study says. Another recent study by the C.D. Howe Institute think tank said the changes would encourage big earners to make more of an effort to avoid taxes, while the rate reduction itself could cost government finances more than expected. In its platform, the Liberals estimated the tax increase on the top earners would fall a little short of covering the full costs of the tax cut. It projected the reduction to cost close to $3 billion annually over its four-year mandate. Combined with the sting of the struggling economy, the new Liberal

Calgary traveller accused of ingesting opium CALGARY: Charges were laid after border officials at the Calgary International Airport intercepted a traveller suspected of ingesting opium. Canada Border Services Agency officers stopped the man, who flew in from Frankfurt, Germany, on Nov. 24. It’s believed he had ingested 342.5 grams of the illicit drug. The suspected opium was expelled and turned over to Mounties for further investigation. “No matter how well narcotics are wrapped, concealing internally is an extremely dangerous practice for the carrier. This seizure certainly contributed to the safety of Calgary communities, but may have also minimized harm to

the (suspect),” said Kim Scoville, CBSA regional director general for the Prairie region, in a statement. Davood Shahpouri, 48, of Calgary was charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with importation of a narcotic and possession for the purpose of trafficking. Shahpouri is expected to appear in court on Jan. 27. As of late November, CBSA officers in Calgary have made 169 drug seizures, including nine cocaine busts, one involving heroin, and three involving opium. - CALGARY HERALD

Donald Trump calls for ‘complete shutdown’ of Muslims entering the U.S. NEWARK, N.J. — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump called Monday for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.” The proposed ban would stand “until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on,” his campaign said in a statement. The statement added that Trump’s proposal comes in response to the level of hatred among “large segments of the Muslim population” toward Americans. “Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life,” Trump said in the statement. He added on Twitter: “Just put out a very important policy statement on the extraordinary influx of hatred & danger coming into our country. We must be vigilant!” Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski said Trump’s proposed ban would apply to “everybody,” including

In response to a request for additional detail, Trump said via a campaign spokeswoman: “Because I am so politically correct, I would never be the one to say. You figure it out!” Trump’s proposal comes a day after President Barack Obama spoke to the nation from the Oval Office in the wake of the shootings in San Bernardino, California, which Obama said was “an

CHILLIWACK, B.C. — Three more men have been charged in connection with a Fraser Valley drug-trafficking syndicate operating in northern British Columbia. The charges come after the province’s combined forces unit wrapped up an investigation last year into a drugdistribution network based out of Chilliwack. Police announced last March it had arrested five people after seizing cash, weapons and more than five-million dollars worth of illegal drugs, including the deadly substance Fentanyl. In May, officers intercepted an alleged drug runner who was travelling to Fort St. John with two other members of the Chilliwack-based trafficking group and seized cash, cocaine and crack cocaine. Police have now arrested 33-yearold Clayton Eheler and issued warrants for 59-year-old Raymond Morrisey and 29-year-old Mathew Thiessen.

and care about. Last but not least, Christmas is a time for extending greetings and best wishes to our family, friends and to everyone we meet along the way. Seasons' greetings everyone -have a safe and happy holiday!

For children, it's a magical time, with turkey and all the trimmings for dinner, lots of presents under the Christmas tree and homes decorated inside and out with bright lights. Over the years the beauty of this holiday occasion has been blurred as it becomes more and more commercialized. Businesses capitalize on peoples caring feelings for their loved ones and try to persuade them to spend as much money as they can afford, if not more, to show how much they care.

It's the busiest time of the year in the retail

business and during this period more money and goods are exchanged than at any other time. During the Christmas season, most people will be invited to one or more parties and offered drinks and food to make the occasion as memorable as it can be. The mad rush to top the party you attended has people going overboard in their spending. Everyone's expectations have increased. They want the most expensive cars, jewelry and other gifts available on the market.

Christmas gifting from the closet: choose your giftees carefully Are you one of those people who buy random clearance items, then store them in a closet until you need a handy gift at Christmas or a birthday? Or love to pick up unique finds during your travels, and then tuck them away for later? While these are convenient and even thrifty practices, there may be hidden pitfalls to gifting from the closet, according to SFU Beedie business professor Judy Zaichkowsky. She and colleague Thyra Uth Thomsen of the Copenhagen Business School have just published “Gifting from the closet: thoughtful or thoughtless” in the Journal of Consumer Marketing. The study revealed that not everyone appreciates them, and can perceive such a gift as evidence of a lack

of caring. But since 77 per cent of respondents, skewed toward upper middle-class females, admitted to having a gift closet, Zaichowsky says retailers should consider including closet gifting in their marketing plans.

They forget that

innocent eyes are watching everything they do and will not only copy what they have seen; they will attach a different meaning to this holiday. That's why it's important for us all to remember the true meaning of Christmas. It's not just about having good

Canadian branch of Islamic school attended by California shooter says ‘absolutely’ no extremism here TORONTO — The Canadian branch of an Islamic foundation distanced itself Monday from the woman who carried out last week’s mass shooting in California following reports she had attended one of the group’s schools in Pakistan. The Al Huda Institute Canada condemned the attack by Tashfeen Malik and her husband — which left 14 people dead and 21 wounded — and expressed concerns about a possible backlash against the foundation, which has been criticized for teaching a particularly conservative strain of Islam. “Religious conservatism is one thing. You have people who are conservative in all faiths,” said Imran Haq, the institute’s operations manager. “Extremism is something completely separate and there is absolutely no strain of that here.” The women-only institute, located in Mississauga, Ont., was founded in 2005 by Farhat Hashmi, a Pakistani scholar who lived in Canada at one point but hasn’t resided in the country “for many years,” Haq said. It is among a number of branches across Pakistan, the U.S. and the U.K. which all teach ideology and principles she has promoted. The Al Huda institutes have come under the spotlight after it emerged that Malik attended a branch in the Pakistani central city of Multan. The region where the school is located is home to thousands of extremist seminaries, with hundreds of them linked to al-Qaida and the Pakistani Taliban. While Hashmi has been criticized for being very conservative, her schools, however, have no known links to extremists. Malik spent more than a year at Al Huda, taking classes six days a week, but didn’t finish a two-year course to study the Qur’an, its translation and interpretation, the Pakistani school’s spokeswoman Farrukh Chaudhry said. She was a student there from April 17, 2013 until May 3, 2014, when she handed in her last paper in the first-year curriculum, the spokeswoman said. Malik said she was going to get married and move to America, and promised to complete her studies by mail correspondence, but that never happened, Chaudhry said. “I have talked to her teachers, her classmates and everybody says she was a hardworking, friendly, helpful and

Sudoku Solutions for last Issue obedient student,” Chaudhry said, adding that “no one ever noticed any signs of radicalization.” In a statement issued Monday, the Al Huda International Welfare Foundation said it seemed Malik was “unable to understand the beautiful message of the Qur’an.” “We cannot be held responsible for personal acts of any of our students,” said the statement posted on Hasmi’s and the foundation’s website. “The organization stands to promote the peaceful message of Islam and denounce extremism, violence and acts of terrorism.” As the details about Malik’s connection to the Pakistani school emerged, the Canadian branch of the Al Huda network also defended its teachings, which it said did not preach extremism. “We don’t have a very strong formal link with Al Huda Pakistan,” Haq said. “We are a religious operation within Canada and we are very much a part of that fabric and we feel like that, except that when you see stuff like this, in light of recent events, we start to get a little worried.” Haq said the non-profit institute is looking at increasing security around its campus as its students and staff have expressed concerns about potential hostility towards Muslims. Hashmi, who has given lectures at the institute in the past is “well-received” by students, added Haq, who said her teachings are “a lot more balanced than people give her credit for.” “These are teachings that are very relevant to Muslims all around the world,” he said. “I think it’s up to every individual and their level of faith to kind of evaluate what she teaches and where

on the spectrum it lies, but whether it’s conservative or not, it definitely doesn’t condone or promote the kinds of things we’re seeing around the world.” Hashmi, who has a doctorate in Islamic studies from the University of Glasgow in Scotland, said in a 2010 interview that Al Huda is “a kind of women’s empowerment program.” Her critics have said she promotes an oppressive form of Islam. Farzana Hassan, a liberal Muslim who is on the board of directors with the Muslim Canadian Congress, recalls attending one of Hashmi’s lectures out of curiosity and said she heard a “very fundamentalist brand of Islam,” which includes condoning polygamy and the segregation of women, among other things. She also knows women who attended some of Hashmi’s talks and seemed enthralled by her. “They just say that she is very knowledgeable and she is actually teaching the pure Islam. What they understand as the pure Islam is something very, very conservative and fundamentalist,” she said. “When you have that kind of Islam, it’s a package deal. It’s not just the wearing of the burka and the stoning to death for adultery…it’s also jihad.” Malik and her American-born husband Syed Farook were killed in a shootout with police hours after they opened fire with assault rifles on a gathering of Farook’s colleagues last Wednesday in San Bernardino, Calif. The FBI is investigating the shooting as an act of terrorism. — THE CANADIAN PRESS

The goal is to fill in the empty cells, one number in each, so that each column, row, and region contains the numbers 1 through 9 exactly once. Each number in the solution therefore occurs only once. in each of three "directions". Or you can say there is only one rule. Plus-sized models fuelling obesity Washington D.C, (ANI): As the spotlight on plus-size fashion is getting bigger and brighter, it is feared that its runway walkers may be fuelling obesity epidemics with their natural body shapes. The increasing use of plus-sized models in advertising campaigns may be contributing to growing rates of obesity, according to the study from Simon Fraser University's Beedie School of Business. The study found that as advertising campaigns increasingly use fewer images of models that are underweight and aesthetically flawless, instead utilizing non-traditional models with larger body types, the tactic can have a detrimental effect on the public's lifestyle and eating behavior. The study's authors posit that efforts to increase acceptance are resulting in increasing the amount of thought consumers put into their appearance and heightening body anxiety - ironically the opposite of what many of these marketing campaigns are trying to achieve. The findings have implications for both public policy makers and advertisers. The researchers advise both to be mindful of how individuals' bodies are portrayed in the media, and develop new strategies that don't focus on suggesting any shape is "good" or "bad.” Although, this study demonstrates that accepting larger bodies results is

associated with negative consequences, research also shows that 'fat-shaming' or stigmatizing such bodies fails to improve motivation to lose weight, says co-author Brent McFerran. He noted that since neither accepting nor stigmatizing larger bodies achieves the desired results, it would be

beneficial for marketers and policy makers to instead find a middle ground using images of people with a healthy weight and more importantly, refraining from drawing attention to the body size issue entirely. The study is published in Journal of Public Policy & Marketing. (ANI)

Giroud’s treble fires Arsenal into CL knockout stages Johannesburg, (ANI): Olivier Giroud produced a scintillating performance by netting a hat-trick as Arsenal overcame Olympiakos 3-0 to progress through to the Champions League knockout stages. The Frenchman put Arsene Wenger’s side ahead in the 29th minute before doubling the lead four minutes into the second half. Giroud completed his hat-trick when he dispatched a clinical penalty to ensure that Arsenal reach the last 16 of the competition for the 16th year in a row, Sport24 reported. Arsenal won the do-or-die encounter and finished as runners-up in Group F behind Bayern Munich. (ANI)

People's feelings about getting older influence their sensory and cognitive functions, said lead author Alison Chasteen. "Those feelings are often rooted in stereotypes about getting older and comments made by those around them that their hearing and memory are failing. So, we need to take a deeper and broader approach to understanding the factors that influence their daily lives."Chasteen said the perceptions older people have about their abilities to function and how they feel about aging must be considered when determining their cognitive and sensory health. She recommends educating older people about ways in which they can influence their aging experience, including providing them with training exercises to enhance their cognitive and physical performance, and disspelling stereotypes about aging.

Salman Khan acquitted in hit and run case After witnessing the latest turn around in the infamous 2002 hit and run case involving Salman, there remains no doubts about the fact that 2015 has proved to be the luckiest year of Sallu Bhaai''s life. Earlier it was ground breaking success of his last cine flick Bajranji Bhaijaan and now his acquittal from the infamous hit and run case of 2002. If recent reports coming from the tinsel town are something to go by then they suggest that Bombay High Court on Thursday acquitted the Bollywood actor of all criminal charges that he had been held guilty of by a trial court in May. Reports further suggest that prosecution did not establish its case against the actor beyond a reasonable doubt as is required under criminal law which eventually led to the acquittal of the actor as the court narrated its verdict keeping in view the "unexplained and glaring anomalies" in the evidence. Delivering the much-awaited verdict, Justice A.R. Joshi said that the actor "cannot be convicted" on the basis of the evidence produced by the prosecution in the 13-year old case and trial. Virtually dismissing the prosecution case, Justice Joshi said the "prosecution failed to establish the charges (against Khan) on all counts" and that "it had failed to prove that Salman was drunk or driving" at the time of the accident, which left one

Jiah Khan case:

Trouble begins for Suraj Pancholi The CBI on Wednesday filed a chargesheet into the death of Bollywood actress Jiah Khan in which actor Suraj Pancholi is one of the prime accused. US citizen Jiah, 25, was found dead at her Juhu apartment on June 3, 2013. Later, Suraj was arrested for 'abetment to suicide' on the basis of a six-page purported suicide note which was recovered. The chargesheet came a fortnight after the sessions court asked for the status of the CBI's investigation into the case after it was transferred to the central probe agency by the Bombay High Court last year. Special Women's Court Judge A.S. Shende had observed at a hearing on November 18 that though the CBI had completed its probe, the chargesheet was not filed in the case so far. Prior to the CBI, Mumbai police which probed the matter said Jiah and Suraj were in a relationship. Later, the Bombay High Court granted him bail. In his bail application, Suraj had contended that the two were in a consensual relationship and the letter purportedly penned by Jiah was allegedly being misused by her mother Rabiya.

Selena Gomez, Niall Horan again spotted together

Singers Selena Gomez and Niall Horan have fuelled romance rumours as they were again spotted together at a night out. The duo was spotted at the Santa Monica Pier over the weekend in matching all-black ensembles. Gomez looked pretty in a long-sleeved shirt while Horan wore a black t-shirt topped with a long-sleeved unbuttoned shirt of the same hue, reports aceshowbiz.com. In what looked like an attempt to avoid fuelling of their dating rumours, both of them maintained some distance while walking at the venue. They seemed to enjoyed their time together at the amusement park. In addition to riding a roller coaster, both of them enjoyed a number of games and ice creams. Neither Gomez nor Horan has commented on the photographs of their outing yet. The outing marked the second time they were spotted together. Last week, they were reportedly seen making out at Jenna Dewan-Tatum's 35th birthday party at Bootsy Bellows here. By Santa Banta News Network

Kim Kardashian gives birth to baby boy It appears Kim Kardashian's second pregnancy might have been just as tough as her first. While Kardashian and her husband, Kanye West, welcomed a healthy baby boy named Saint on Saturday, a source confirmed to ET that the 35-year-old reality star dealt with the same complications during labor that she faced when she delivered daughter North in 2013. Kardashian suffered from placenta accreta, a condition in which the placenta remains attached to the wall of the uterus, instead of coming out after the birth of the baby, People reports. According to a post Kardashian wrote on her website earlier this month, the same thing occurred when she gave birth to North. Kardashian

revealed that her doctor "had to stick his entire arm in me and detach the placenta with his hand, scraping it away from my uterus with his fingernails." Due to the high risk of complications, Kardashian decided to

move up her due date from Christmas Day -- when doctors originally planned on inducing labor -- to Dec. 5. North was also delivered early due to Kardashian's health concerns -including preeclampsia -- and was born at 34 weeks. Another pregnancy concern arose a few weeks ago when doctors informed Kardashian that her son was breech, and the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star had to undergo a painful procedure to turn her unborn son around in utero. Despite the multitude of challenges and complications, Kardashian successfully gave birth to a healthy baby boy, weighing 8 pounds and 1 ounce, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Zayn Malik 'heavily pursuing' Gigi Hadid Former One Direction member Zayn Malik is "heavily pursuing" model Gigi Hadid, but she is said to be more ambivalent about their romance. According to a source, Malik has been spotted on a string of dates with Hadid in past few weeks, and while he is infatuated with her, she is reluctant to get into anything serious and even invited her sister on one of their nights out, reports femalefirst.co.uk. ‘Zayn is slightly besotted with Gigi. He's been the one heavily pursuing her, rather than the other way round,’ the source was quoted as

saying by Grazia magazine. "He thinks she's stunning and it wouldn't harm his profile to be dating a top US model as he launches his solo career," the source said while adding that Hadid is "slightly more ambivalent" towards Malik. "Gigi is slightly more ambivalent. She's aware of Zayn's bad-boy reputation, and is approaching with caution. She even invited her sister Bella on their date to The Nice Guy to encourage Zayn to behave himself,’ the source said By Santa Banta News Network

Dear SOS Dear SOS: I have three brothers, all married, and well settled with children. I too am married and have small children. My one brother lives in England and two live here in Surrey. Upon arriving in Canada, we, me, my older brother and our parents all lived with my oldest brother and his wife who sponsored for us. Three years after arriving here I got married and went to live with my in-laws. Shortly after that my older brother got married. My sister-in-laws couldn’t get along with each other so my brothers decided to live separately. My parents who were living

Helpless in Surrey Dear Helpless in Surrey: Your parents story is very sad but it’s very common here in British Columbia. I have heard so many stories like your family’s. Here in Canada the amount of abuse of seniors is increasing but most of the incidents are silently suffered by the seniors, the story rarely gets out. You need to help your parents, even if you can’t take them to live in your home. You need to help your parents understand that they don’t need to live this kind of life. First of all tell them not to give their pension to anyone. That’s for them and their living expenses. If their sons and daughter-in-laws don’t want them in the house then they can either rent one of the son’s basement and move in there and pay them the rent or get a basement suite some where else. If that doesn’t work then you can get them a basement suite near your home so that they are close by and you can help them with whatever they need. There are solutions, you just need to look for those solutions. In the meantime help your parents to understand how necessary it is that they not take this kind of abuse. Good Luck.

When Ranveer got biggest shock of his life

Singer Shashi Suman, who has lent his voice for the song 'Albela Sajan' from 'Bajirao Mastani', says actor Ranveer Singh was "shocked" when he first heard the track. 'Albela Sajan', composed by 'Bajirao Mastani' helmer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, is a recreation of a song from the filmmaker's iconic 1999 romanticdrama 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam'. "All the songs were ready before the shooting began. Ranveer heard 'Malhari' first and was shocked. He was wondering how will he dance to it, how will it be shot... Then he heard 'Albela Sajan' and was shocked all the more. "It was a pure hardcore classical number which was opposite of 'Malhari'. He liked it a lot and was excited about the songs as there are so many variations in the album," Shashi told PTI. The original song featured superstar Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan where the "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" actor was shown taking musical lessons and falling in love with Rai's character, Nandini. Shashi, who also composed the music of 'Mary Kom', says the track in 'Bajirao Mastani' will be a "welcome song". "I don't know about the exact situation but it is supposed to be a welcome song for Bajirao. Sanjay sir really liked the song and wanted to use it. He said no better song than 'Albela Sajan' as a welcome number." While the original song was sung by Sultan Khan, Shankar Mahadevan and Kavita Krishnamurthy, the recreated version has been rendered by Shashi, along with Kunal Pandit, Prithvi Gandharva, Kanika Joshi, Rashi Raagga,

When Salman made SRK wait for 45 minutes Geetika Manjrekar. "'Albela Sajan' is a traditional song. For 'Bajirao Mastani', only the lyrics of the 'mukhada' have been taken from it... The arrangements, tempo, notes and pace is new," he said. Shashi has assisted Bhansali in "Ram Leela" and says he was not

nervous to record the new song. "I was not nervous at all. The song was created in front of me, I was involved in the creative process of it, starting from the studio work. It is a classical song which is a genre I am comfortable with," he said. -By Santa Banta News Network

Shah Rukh Khan is all set to be part of a special episode on 'Bigg Boss 9' to promote his upcoming film, 'Dilwale'. Along with the show's host, Salman Khan, he shot for the promo yesterday at Mehboob Studios. The shoot, which was to begin at 3 pm began much later. Reason? The actors arrived late. However, sources say that SRK arrived 45 minutes before Salman and had to wait. Since the verdict on Salman Khan's hit-and-run case is expected on Wednesday, the actor did not want to waste time shooting and had apparently asked the makers to wrap up things as soon as possible. When the two met, they greeted each other like long lost friends and chatted over coffee before the shoot began. They shot the promo for 20 minutes, where the duo danced on each other's film's songs and later posed for the paparazzi. Salman Khan left immediately after the shoot while Shah Rukh Khan continued shooting after a costume change. He will also go to Lonavla to shoot the special episode over the weekend. -By Santa Banta News Network

This film is touted as an erotic thriller... If your idea of erotica is seeing Zarine Khan in various stages of undressing or Karan Singh Grover's biceps that show more emotions than his face or a Daisy Shah getting in and out of the pool in tacky sets of swimwear, then this one's for you. However, must tell you that the 'erotica' part is limited to the intermittent songs that come and go as if once in a while the director (Vishal Pandya) realises that he has to heat up things to justify the genre the film is supposed to belong to. In his book, erotic is obviously defined as the camera moving in and out of the ladies' bosom and crotch areas or the gents' shirtless torso moving up and down on the woman's body under layers of bedsheets. The story is about this ultra rich businessman Aditya Dewan (Sharman Joshi) and his wife, Siya (Zareen Khan). Their idyllic life is slowly and steadily

'indecent proposal' to Aditya, and thus begins the hate story between the two men. Kaya (Daisy Shah), is Diwan's employee and is used as a pawn in the whole game of oneupmanship between

Aditya and Singhania. The story takes several thrilling twists and turns and manages to keep your curiosity till the very end. Dialogues in this film are written clearly with one solid instruction, cram in all the jargons of business world, to make the characters look all important and hmm...businesslike. Unfortunately, those very dialogues and amateurish execution makes the characters look more caricaturish than believable. Sharman Joshi, otherwise a decent actor, walks around with a stiff air about him as if he himself was not sure if he could carry off a successful, smart businessman's role. Daisy was stiff too, perhaps because she was stuck in clothes a size smaller than hers. Though Grover has a good screen presence and can be quite charming, his acting skills need a bit of honing to be done. Zareen has a pretty face attached to a pair of lips that wouldn't stop moving. This movie is definitely a front bencher's delight. -Santa Banta

Apna Roots, December 11th, 2015 (NC) Not much is as taxing as hosting a large group and things can derail fairly quickly. Stop, take a deep breath, and follow this simple guideline to holiday entertaining that is certain to be merry and bright: Set a budget: It's easy to get spendy when everyone will be scrutinizing the details of your event, but make sure to set a realistic limit. If you plan early enough, there are many DIY projects to spruce up your home dĂŠcor without breaking the bank. Head to Pinterest for inspiration and your local dollar store for supplies. Whatever your budget, you can throw a great party. Make a guest list and check it twice: Who you invite to break bread with is important to a successful event. Don't feel that you have to invite everyone and their friends in order to be a good host. It's hard not to invite your crazy Aunt Evelyn, but you can probably skip the gossipy co-worker. Fill their plates: Whether you're having it catered or tackling the job yourself, the holidays are a time for old favourites, but don't be afraid to throw in a contemporary spin. Just don't try a new recipe the day of the party. Test the food out on your family first to avoid serving 50 collapsed soufflĂŠs. And make it easy on yourself by only serving nibbles. People love to graze, it's easier to make the dishes ahead of time and this gives you the opportunity to offer variety to a group of diverse eaters. Set the mood: Don't forget an essential element to entertaining: music. The tunes at any event really help to set the ambience, but with everything else that you're doing, don't add the timeconsuming task of building a perfect mix.

How to throw a party stress free

“Make it easy on yourself, says SiriusXM Canada. They advise to

simply use your computer or mobile device to access commercial-free music

to suit every taste through SiriusXM Internet Radio. From Christmas classics to Hanukkah favourites, keep the party going with hits from the past, current club anthems, or traditional tunes. You can listen free for a limited time at www.siriusxm.ca. When it's all done: Make sure all your guests have a safe ride home by having a few cabs pre-ordered. Surprise them with an adult “goodie bag to take along, which may include water bottles, ibuprofen, a recipe for a “hair of the dog cocktail, and anything that shows you care. Get creative. And as the door closes behind the very last guest, you deserve to sit down, relax and toast yourself for throwing a sensational holiday bash.

Find the gift that keeps on giving NC) Sometimes we wish we could just get a list from our friends and families to ease the stress of finding the perfect gift – especially for that person who is nearly impossible to please. Here are some gifting ideas for the gift enigmas on your list so you can enjoy a care-free shopping experience this season: DIYers – Purchase arts and crafts workshops for friends or family members who have a creative flare. They can put an additional skillset to use and make some personalized holiday dÊcor with their new expertise. Zenfully Minded – Gift a spiritual friend with a private yoga class or weekend meditation retreat. They'll appreciate their downward dog away

from city life and find inner nirvana in a countryside sun salute. Foodies – If their risotto comes out perfect every time, pastry classes might be the way to go – even a soufflÊ can unnerve Michelin star chefs. A tour of a vineyard is a great gesture for those who are self-proclaimed or practicing sommeliers, too. The Impossible to Buy For – A SiriusXM radio is the gift that can please anyone including the goofy dad, the music-loving best friend or even the too hip nephew. With more than 120 channels of music, news, talk, sports and entertainment to listen to, anyone on your list can tune in to hear whatever suits their mood. You can also gift a SiriusXM subscription to someone who

may already have satellite radio in their vehicle or an online subscription so they can enjoy through their phone, computer or tablet, wherever they are. Style Maven – Gift cards are a fantastic option because you choose any denomination, and you can get one directly from the recipient's favourite retail destination. From homemade knits to haute couture, they're not tied down to one article of clothing.

Just ask celebrities like BeyoncĂŠ, Miranda Kerr and Mark Wahlberg: Alkaline water is where it's at, and it's one of the fastest-growing segments in the premium hydration category. In fact, the bottled water category is expected to surpass carbonated soft drinks as the number one packaged beverage by 2016, and enhanced water sales are helping to drive this shift. According to a recent Mintel consumer report, enhanced water grew a dramatic 62 per cent from 2012 to 2014. There are several enhanced water options available in Canada like Flow, a naturally alkaline water sourced from a local spring in Ontario that features naturally occurring minerals including calcium bicarbonate, magnesium, potassium and electrolytes. Of all the enhanced waters, Flow is the only one packaged in an eco-friendly Tetra Pak carton that is made mostly out of paperboard, a renewable material. So is there a benefit to drinking alkaline water if you're in good health? The answer is 'yes'. With no industrial process or additives, a holistic H2O like Flow siphoned straight from the earth and packaged in a sustainable paperboard Tetra Pak carton will offer the healthful properties you need to stay hydrated, without the neutral pH of tap water or the chemicals associated with water bottled in plastic. Plus, alkaline water is rich in acid-neutralizing compounds, such as calcium, silica and zinc. More than 70 per cent of consumers say they drink enhanced bottled water because it helps them get essential minerals which are missing from their everyday diets. 5 clever car tips to help you survive winter

warning system that will reduce the chances of low pressure which can lead to flats which are extremely dangerous.

(NC) We all know that winter driving is a whole different beast with seemingly more snow, ice and slush every year to get in our way. While we can't control the weather that Mother Nature throws at us, we can prepare for it to ensure safety on the roads. Winter tires are critical for road safety. “We live in Canada where the temperatures can go as low as 40 below,” says Jeff Bullock, a tire expert and spokesman for Hankook Tire. “Summer tires just can't handle cold temperatures. They lose their grip, their stopping power and are not able to deliver the safety you get from using a proper winter tire.” Here are a few quick tips to ensure you're prepared for any wild weather this season brings: 1. Winter Tires: Switch to winter tires when temperature drops below

3. Emergency Warmth: Keep a warm sleeping bag, extra layers and tea light candles in the car in case of a breakdown.

seven degrees Celsius. 2. Tire Pressure: Check it once a

month, when the vehicle has not been driven for at least four hours. It's an early

4. Fuel up: Don't let your gas tank get below the half full mark and keep water and snacks on hand for yourself. 5. Communication: Keep a backup battery or charger for your cell phone and a flashlight in the vehicle so you can be located in the dark. According to a recent Hankook Get a Grip Winter Tire Safety Poll more women than men switch to winter tires. As for the timing of when to switch, it was those with the least driving experience, the millennials, who got it right. Sixty-two per cent correctly stated that putting winter tires on the vehicle was dependent on temperature. Those least likely to use winter tires are over 55, 44 per cent said they don't use them.

How to properly check your tires this winter

“You can trust A Place for Mom to help you.” – Joan Lunden

(NC) Winter roads can be challenging, with unexpected slips, white-outs, and accidents. The best way to prepare is to make sure your tires are in perfect shape. Michelin experts have outlined what you should know in order to make your tires winter ready, from measuring the tread to the air pressure. Place a thin ruler into the tread and measure the distance from the base of the tread to the surface. It should be more than 2/32 inch deep. Check to see if your front tires are more worn than your rear ones. If so, you might need to have your wheels aligned. A drop in outside temperature will mean a drop in the air pressure in your tires. Under-inflation affects handling and can also cause your tires to wear faster. Check your air pressure monthly and maintain the manufacturer's recommended level found in your owner's manual. Above all, it's best to start with high quality tires. Tires are built with safety in mind, but they can't always defeat unexpected road debris and sometimes a flat tire occurs. With every Michelin tire purchase, you receive flat tire changing assistance as part of the Michelin Promise Plan that provides you with peace of mind if a tire goes flat.
