IHIT seeks public help for information on crime vehicle

Burnaby: RCMP in Burnaby is asking public assistance to identify crime vehicle. On August 12, 2015 just after 10:30 a.m. Burnaby RCMP were called to the 4600 block of Midlawn Drive after a report of shots fired and one man lying in the street. Police found 43 year old Igor Bradaric suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency personnel attempted to revive Mr. Bradaric however he succumbed to his injuries. A 2005 grey Audi station wagon with out of province licence plates, was seen leaving the area and shortly after this a vehicle matching that description was recovered in Surrey. Igor Bradaric is known to police however this is not believed to be connected to the ongoing low level drug dispute under investigation by Surrey RCMP. IHIT investigators are now working with Burnaby and Surrey RCMP to determine the circumstances leading up to what appears to be the targeted shooting of Igor Bradaric. The identification of Mr. Bradaric, is done in

an effort to find witnesses to his activities prior to his death. Sergeant Stephanie Ashton, Media Relations Officer for IHIT says “We are dealing with multiple scenes in relation to this incident and ask anyone who may have seen the 2005 grey Audi Station wagon, to contact police and provide this information.” Anyone with information regarding this investigation can call the IHIT tipline by calling 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email at ihittipline@rcmp-grc.gc.ca . Court ruling legitimizes Surrey couple’s marriage, will reunite family after five year battle Surrey: After five long years of fighting the legitimacy of her marriage, Harpreet Sandhu can finally look forward to “starting a really happy life” with her husband and two children at home in Surrey. On July 24, Sandhu finally won a federal-court case to bring her husband, Harpreet Singh, to Canada. She had been fighting for his sponsorship since they married in India in January 2010, but Citizenship and Immigration Canada repeatedly denied the couple’s applications. In its reasons for dismissal, CIC stated that the marriage was “not genuine” and “entered in bad faith ... primarily for the purpose of acquiring any status or privilege.” These reasons were continually issued over the past five years, despite the fact the couple had two children (three-year-old Kashvi and 11-month-old Tevin) and that Sandhu constantly travelled back and forth to India for months at a time just to keep her family together. By September 2014 she took her case to federal court and the decision was finally reversed last month. “It’s been hard,” Sandhu said of the past five years without her husband. Travelling to India was also difficult on her health because she’s diabetic. On her most recent visit she fell so ill she was hospitalized and her

mother, Paramjit Sandhu, had to travel to India to help get her back home. “It’s been really hard,” her mother told The Province. “Their anniversaries are coming up, or the kids’ birthdays — it’s like she’s celebrating them by herself. “He’s missing all this stuff in his kids’ lives.” Singh also missed the birth of both his children. According to Sandhu’s immigration consultant, Mumtaz Khan, this is the most drawn out case like this he has seen. “The longest — bar none — that I’ve dealt with,” he said. “The cost is enormous ... they’ve spent $40,000 to $50,000 now to get to his stage.” Unable to get a job because she

her parents and extended family so she could keep the case going. “(The government) really dug their heels in and continually fought and fought ... despite the fact that I provided a plethora of evidence,” said Khan, adding that he made available email exchanges between the couple, money transfers, as well as phone call and Skype call logs. While the federal court ruling was a big win for the family, Khan expects the consulate in India will “drag their heels,” meaning it could take up to a another year before Singh can finally immigrate. “External pressure is the only way we can get it sped up,” said Khan, adding that they’re waiting for the federal election to wrap up so they can get help from local MPs. “(It’s) the final journey,” he said. “Hopefully it’s over and the son-in-law, Harpreet’s husband, the father to her two children, will be here.” BY LARISSA CAHUTE, THE PROVINCE

Butter is alright, but margarine just might kill you, massive Canadian study finds LONDON — Saturated fat found in butter, meat or cream is unlikely to kill you, but margarine just might, new research suggests. Traditionally people have been advised to reduce animal fats, but the biggest ever study has shown they do not increase the risk of stroke, heart disease or diabetes. However, trans fats, found in processed foods such as margarine, raise the risk of death by 34 per cent in less than a decade. It is one of our most venerable documents, the most requested government publication after tax forms. But when Dr. David Hammond’s team asked more than 1,000 Canadians recently how much they knew about the Food Guide there were a lot of blank stares. Fewer than half could name all four food groups. Less than one per cent knew how many servings they should have from each one. “For years everyone has been advised to cut out fats,” said study lead author Dr. Russell de Souza, an assistant professor in the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, at McMaster University in Canada. “Trans fats have no health benefits and pose a significant risk for heart disease, but the case for saturated fat is less clear. “That said, we aren’t advocating an increase of the allowance for saturated fats in dietary guidelines, as we don’t see evidence that higher limits would be specifically beneficial to

health.” Saturated fats come mainly from animal products such as butter, cows’ milk, meat, and egg yolks, and some plant products such as chocolate and palm oils. Trans-unsaturated fats – or trans fats – are mainly produced industrially from plant oils for use in margarine, snack foods and packaged goods. Guidelines recommend that saturated fats are limited to less than 10 per cent, and trans fats to less than one per cent of energy, to reduce risk of heart disease and stroke. However, the new research, which looked at 50 studies involving more than one million people, found there was no evidence that saturated fat was bad for health. The “vilification” of saturated fats dates back to the 1950s when research suggested a link between high dietary saturated fat intake and deaths from heart disease. But the study author looked at data from only six countries, and chose to ignore data from a further 16 that did not fit with his hypothesis. -THE TELEGRAPH

Nigel Wright says PM believed Mike Duffy shouldn’t Woman dies after being hit by car have been seeking Ottawa living expenses Ottawa : Prime Minister Stephen Harper told Mike Duffy that he believed Duffy should not have been seeking reimbursements for living expenses for his home in Ottawa, the PM's former chief of staff, Nigel Wright, testified today after the resumption of the nowsuspended senator's trial. Wright, a key Crown witness, told the Ottawa court Wednesday that he was part of a conversation that Duffy was having with Harper following a caucus meeting. During the conversation, Duffy was making his case to the prime minister about the expenses, which had become an issue in the media. Wright, who had previously spoken to Duffy about the issue, also said he believed that a common-sense view of primary residency would be where someone "hung his hat," which, in Duffy's case, was Kanata, Ont. Residency is one of the central issues in the case against Duffy, who has pleaded not guilty to 31 charges of fraud, breach of trust and bribery related to expenses he claimed as a senator and later repaid with the $90,000 he received from Wright. Duffy designated his home in P.E.I. as his primary residence, making him eligible to claim meals and living expenses for his time in Ottawa, even though he has lived and worked in Canada's capital since the 1970s. The Crown disputes that P.E.I. is Duffy's primary residence, and contends the now-suspended senator was not eligible for those claims.

Wright said in conversations he had with Duffy, he believed the senator would pay back the expenses. But he was subsequently "deflated" in followup conversations with Duffy in which Duffy continued to make his case for the expenses. Wednesday marks the 37th day of the judge-only trial, which last sat on June 18, the start of the second hiatus of the high-profile trial that began April 7 in the Ontario Court of Justice in Ottawa. This third phase will continue until Aug. 28, and, with more time assuredly needed, break until it would resume again in mid-November. The first two phases of the trial have barely touched on Wright, with Crown prosecutors Neubauer and Mark Holmes mostly focusing on Duffy's expenses, travel claims and residency issues. However, one Crown witness, a forensic accountant, did carefully trace the path of $90,000 from the account of Wright to an Ottawa-based law firm, then into the bank account of Duffy, and

finally to the receiver general of Canada. In his opening statement of the trial, Duffy's lawyer, Donald Bayne, accused Wright of leading a scheme that would force Duffy to admit he made mistakes regarding his Senate expenses and make it appear he had repaid $90,000 to stem the political fallout. Wright was dismissed (or resigned, it's not exactly clear which) as the prime minister's chief of staff after the arrangement between Wright and Duffy was made public, in May 2013. Wright has said that his "actions were intended solely to secure the repayment of funds, which I considered to be in the public interest." Nigel Wright, former chief of staff to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, makes his way through a crush of media as he arrives to testify at the criminal trial of embattled suspended Senator Mike Duffy in Ottawa. Guest Editorial How a lower loonie is affecting Canada's economy

Also, to the extent that Canada has lost a share of its manufacturing base to the U.S., Mexico and offshore locations, the leverage it gets from a lower dollar is diminished. What hasn’t helped either is that the U.S. manufacturing sector took a long time to rebound and so demand for Canadian goods and services took some time to pick up. We’re just now seeing signs that exports have begun to grow.

Wedding between Sikh bride and non-Sikh groom stopped by ‘thugs’ at London temple LONDON: A group of men have stormed a Sikh temple in London to stop an inter-faith marriage, forcing the couple to cancel their wedding day. Members of the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara, in Southall, said the final preparations were underway on Friday when the men arrived. Sohan Singh Sumra, vice-president of the temple, told The Independent a group of up to 22 people arrived shortly after 8am. “They were all thugs,” he added. “None of them were recognised by any of the Sikh groups here. “It was because it was a mixed marriage…they just came here to spoil it and intimidate us.” Mr. Sumra said police were called to remove the “threatening” men and that the gurdwara, which was inaugurated by Prince Charles, is now considering hiring private security. He said the men had threatened to stop the wedding (Anand Karaj), between a Sikh woman and her white, non-Sikh, fiancé in a phone call the night before. Members of the Havelock Road gurdwara contacted the bride’s family and they chose to go ahead, he said, but they could not continue after the temple was stormed on the wedding day. “I've been in this temple since 1994 and I've never seen this sort of thing,” Mr. Sumra said. “We will always listen to

people’s suggestions but there was no reasoning with them. It was a sad day.” Mr. Sumra said he had attended many marriages between couples of different religions and races, and that the vast majority of the Sikh community had no issue with it. “We are living in this country and we work with couples – if they are happy we’re fine with it - Sikhism is a liberal religion,” he added, despite acknowledging the existence of “splinter groups”. “We had a meeting with local temples on Saturday because we don’t want anything like that happening to any other couples.” Sunny Hundal, a freelance

journalist and author, originally reported on the incident on Friday and posted videos on Facebook appearing to show the “hypocritical and fanatical thugs” arguing with fellow Sikhs inside the gurdwara. “I'm raising (this issue) because I want people to realise what is happening under our noses before it gets too late,” he wrote, saying wedding “disruptions”, were becoming increasingly common. “This gang-mentality puritanism will end up with the Sikh version of the Taliban and destroy the community. Don't tolerate it.” In October last year, the UK's Sikh Council released guidelineson inter-faith marriages saying that gurdwaras must ensure the "genuine acceptance of Sikh faith" in both partners, proposing the use of signed delarations. The goal is to fill in the empty cells, one number in each, so that each column, row, and region contains the numbers 1 through 9 exactly once. Each number in the solution therefore occurs only once. in each of three "directions". Or you can say there is only one rule. Every row, every column and every 3-by-3 subgrid should contain digits 1 to 9 only.

FEDERAL ELECTION: New ridings, names in Surrey and Delta TOM ZYTARUK / SURREY NOW SURREY — The writ’s dropped and it’s officially game on, though Oct. 19 still feels far away. With Canada’s federal election 2015 comes some big geographical changes for ridings related to Surrey and North Delta. We will now have six MPs in this area, as opposed to four. So of the six new ridings B.C. is gaining, we have two of them. Before this campaign, the local electoral map was divided into NewtonNorth Delta, South Surrey-White RockCloverdale, Surrey North and FleetwoodPort Kells. But in this coming election, these ridings will slip into history, with only Fleetwood-Port Kells maintaining its name, though its boundaries have changed. The new ridings are CloverdaleLangley City, Delta, South Surrey-White Rock, Surrey-Newton and Surrey Centre. North Delta, which used to be part of Newton-North Delta, currently held by NDP MP Jinny Sims, has broken away from Surrey to be part of an expansive new riding taking in the entire municipality of Delta. Cloverdale has also broken away from the riding currently held by Conservative MP Russ Hiebert, who is not seeking re-election. What’s left of that riding contains

shares boundaries with the Delta riding at 120th Street and 96th Avenue down to the Fraser River, with Surrey Newton to the south, along 88th Avenue east to 148th, where its eastern border shared with Fleetwood-Port Kells jogs north to 100th Avenue, then east to 152nd Street up to Highway 1, and along the highway to the northerly limit of the city. As for candidates, there looks to be a battle royale brewing between incumbent Conservative MP Nina Grewal and NDP candidate Garry Begg, a retired senior Surrey RCMP officer, in Fleetwood-Port Kells. The Liberals and Green Party have yet to reveal candidates there. In Surrey Centre, Conservative candidate and businessman Sucha Thind

South Surrey and White Rock, sharing its western boundary with the Delta riding at 120th Street, its northern boundary with Surrey-Newton and CloverdaleLangley City at Highway 10, and its eastern border is 192nd Street, shared with Cloverdale-Langley City and Langley-Aldergrove. Surrey-Newton is a rectangular box with simply defined boundaries, from 88th Avenue in the north to Highway 10 in the south, and 120th Street is its western boundary, and 144th Street its east. Surrey Centre embraces a large part of the city’s north end, including Royal Heights, Bridgeview, Whalley and parts of Guildford. This replaces Surrey North, currently held by NDP MP JasbirSandu. It

will attempt to unseat incumbent NDP MP Jasbir Sandhu. The Liberals and Green Party have not yet revealed their candidates in Surrey Centre. Incumbent Conservative MP Kerry-Lynne Findlay will square off against Liberal candidate and human rights lawyer Carla Qualtrough in the Delta riding, as well as NDP candidate Jeremy Leveque, who works in health care. In Surrey-Newton, NDP MP incumbent Jinny Sims will take on old rival and Liberal candidate Sukh Dhaliwal, former Liberal MP, and Conservative candidate Harpreet Singh, a television show host. In Cloverdale-Langley City, it’s Conservative candidate Dean Drysdale (former Langley township councillor) against Liberal candidate John Alday, who has had a lengthy career with Parks Canada, the NDP’s Rebecca Smith and Green candidate Scott Anderson, who works with Bosa Construction. Elsewhere, former Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts will be carrying the Conservative flag in South Surrey-White Rock, competing for the MP seat in that riding against NDP candidate and environmental lawyer Pixie Hobby, Liberal candidate Joy Davies (former city councillor for Tumbler Ridge) and Green candidate Larry Colero, who has taught graduate-level business ethics at UBC and SFU.

Udhampur, around 18 kms from Udhampur town. Two BSF personnel, namely Constable Rocky No. 120628139 of 59th Bn. BSF, r/o District Yamuna Nagar, Haryana; and Constable Subhendu Roy, No. 994001199 of 2nd Bn. one of the two militants involved in the attack was killed, while one was subsequently apprehended by the local people and the police. “The apprehended terrorist was brought to Jammu, where he is being questioned by the concerned authorities. Japanese PM calls for global nuclear disarmament on Hiroshima attack’s 70th anniversary London: (ANI): Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called for worldwide nuclear disarmament on the commemoration ceremony of the 70th anniversary of Hiroshima attack. While addressing an audience of around 40,000 people, Abe added that the atomic bomb not only killed thousands of people in Hiroshima but also caused unspeakable suffering to those who managed to survive. According to the BBC, the ceremony held at Hiroshima’s Peace park near the epicentre of the 1945 attack, witnessed the release of thousands of paper

lanterns on the city’s Motoyasu river symbolising the journey to the afterlife of those who lost their lives. Ceremonies began in Hiroshima with a procession by Buddhist monks and local residents, and a “die-in” by children in front of the Atomic Bomb Dome, one of the few structures left standing close to the blast’s epicentre. People across Japan observed a minute’s silence. In Hiroshima, a bell tolled at 08:15 (Japan Standard Time), in correspondence to the time when the US aircraft had dropped the bomb that

flattened the city centre.

Emily Blunt may star in 'Captain Marvel' Actress Emily Blunt will reportedly star as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel in the upcoming female-led superhero movie. A new rumour regarding "Captain Marvel" has surfaced. Blunt is rumoured to play the title character in the upcoming movie, reports aceshowbiz.com. In the latest "Meet the Movie Press" episode, co-host El Mayimbe revealed that the 32-year-old star would be a likely candidate to take the role of Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel. Back in April, a report surfaced that the studio wanted Charlize Theron to play the lead female character. However, there has been no confirmation about the casting as of now. Danvers first debuted in 1968's "Marvel Super-Heroes". She was a US Air Force security chief who is transformed into Captain Marvel following an explosion. Since there hasn't been any director

attached to the project, it seems like the makers will look for a director first before they start their casting search. In February, a source suggested that people behind the female-led superhero movie eyed Angelina Jolie to helm

"Captain Marvel". They reportedly offered her $20 million for the directing job. Kevin Feige will produce the movie while Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve are writing the script.

Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith’s $240 mn divorce? After 17 years, star couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are reportedly ending their rocky marriage with a secret divorce deal. "For Will and Jada, holding it together these past few years has been tough because their marriage has been on life support for a long time," a source told radaronline.com. They're exhausted from trying to maintain the facade of a happy union. They've decided to pull the plug in a carefully choreographed manner, (and) agree announcing their split at the end of

the summer is the right move," the source added. They have already "worked out a confidential settlement to protect their $240 million fortune, and prepare their

children (son Jaden, 17, and daughter Willow, 14) for the fallout," said the source. Hinting at their split earlier this year in an interview, the "Bad Boys" actor, 46, admitted that their marriage had "died". Meanwhile, Pinkett Smith, 43, seemed to acknowledge Will's notorious wandering eye, telling Howard Stern: "I'm not his watcher. He's a grown man." She later added that she's fine with Will's ways, "as long as Will can look himself in the mirror and be okay." By Santa Banta News Network

August 4 is busy with offers to share in the high life as Venus conjoins Jupiter in regal Leo. Big fun and energetic friends may keep you hopping during the New Moon on (Mar. (Mar.2121- April April 19) August 14. A secret admirer could be lurking in the shadows, too. Allow people to treat you like royalty. Take great pleasure in all the little things you do at the Full Moon on August 29. Better still, be grateful for how much is being done for you by people who appreciate you. You have great friends and family (and some strangers, too) who may not tell you so.

Leap into overdrive when Mars enters your sign on August 8. Get fired up and motivated to do something especially ambitious. You own this New Moon on August 14. Make some changes in your appearance or behavior (July23-Aug 23-Aug (July 22)22) and then control how other people react to you. People may have trouble saying no to you, so be careful what you ask of them. The world might make some impossible demands of you as the August 29 Full Moon draws near. You're always ready to help, but you don't need to drown in a flood of imagined calls for heroics on your part.

TAugust 4 is a bonus day of luck and love as Venus and Jupiter conjoin in golden Leo. The New Moon on August 14 could make your home feel more like the palace you see in your dreams. Indulge in decorative embellishments or perhaps some stylish entertainment and allow yourself to live that (Apr. 20- may 20) dream. Have some fun on the Full Moon of August 29, but don't expect everyone to be on the up and up with you. Perhaps it's a misunderstood intention or maybe someone is leading you on. None of this will dampen the party atmosphere, though.

Be inspired to dress up more and be entertained by your friends and admirers when Mercury conjoins Venus on August 6. At the New Moon of August 14, someone may surprise you with a personal gift or favor that you may not want to accept. You're more than worthy of it, so be gracious and find a (Aug. 23 - Sept. 22) way to reciprocate if you must (but nothing is expected in return). Dreams of the perfect love could flood your mind and heart under the Full Moon on August 29. You're tremendously attractive and desirable now, so be wise to the attention you attract.

Review: 'Masaan' - An emotionally engaging tale An Indo-French co-production, "Masaan" is a poignant tale of two young couples, whose lives are intertwined by fate, set against the backdrop of a crematorium on the ghats of the river Ganges in Benares. Educated and fairly independent, Devi Pathak -- although living in a small town -- is unconventional, experimental and unapologetic about her life. While the unexpected death of her lover Piyush has her internalizing her traumatic loss, she simultaneously balances to maintain truce with her father Vidyadhar Pathak (Sanjay Mishra), a former Sanskrit teacher, now selling knick-knacks on the bank of the Ganges. She is in disagreement with her father who is forced to shell out a hefty bribe to the police inspector in order to keep her "shame" under wraps. On the other hand, Deepak's tale is a tragic romance of a promising engineering student born into the family of corpseburners. He falls in love with an upper-caste

girl, Shalu Gupta, who is willing to elope if her family opposes their alliance. For a maiden venture, Ghaywan's "Masaan", is a sensitively handled, honest film with some intrepid truths about small towns in India, giving you an insight into the mind of the internet-savvy youth. These are adroitly

woven into the narrative. Varun Grover's layered script, with a seemingly complex screenplay, oscillates between romance and melodrama. The screenplay unlocks simply, through the realistic lives of the characters, bringing to the fore, societal taboos like morality,

sexual exploration and romance in a castedriven society. Every character is intricately welletched and the actors leave an indelible mark with their powerful but natural performances. Vicky Kaushal as Deepak, with his boy-next-door looks, is impressive. A bundle of talent, he slips into his character with unquestionable ease and sincerity. He steals your heart with his coy demeanour when he woos his lady love. You empathise with his pain and frustrations. The scene where he breaks down before his friends after losing Shalu is heart-wrenching. He is aptly supported in a realistic performance by Shweta Tripathi as Shalu, a collegian, who falls in love with his simplicity. On screen, they make an endearing pair. Richa Chadda with a

stoically glum and a stubborn demeanour as Devi, borders on being a rebel without a cause. A misfit in her surroundings, she tells her father, "jitni chhoti jagah, utni chhoti soch".

Alia kisses Shahid in first look of 'Shaandaar' Actress Alia Bhatt plants a kiss on Shahid Kapoor's cheek in the first look of "Shaandaar", which spells love and romance. Producer Karan Johar on Wednesday unveiled the film's first official look. It features Shahid, looking smart in a leather jacket and a beard, while holding the quirkily dressed Alia, who is seen planting a kiss on her costar's cheek. Shahid is all smiles in the poster of the film, which is directed by

Vikas Bahl of "Queen" fame. Karan tweeted: "And here it is!!!!! #Shaandaarfirstlook @shahidkapoor and @aliaa08 like never before!!!" Even the newly married Shahid shared: "And the Shaandaar journey begins....#Shaandaarfirstlook", while Alia shared: "AND we are up!!!!This Dussehra make it SHAANDAAR !! @shahidkapoor #ShaandaarFirstLook #SHAANDAARonDUSSEHRA."

Just a day before, the filmmaker had shared a teaser poster, featuring Shahid and Alia against the backdrop of a romantic view. While Alia was seen sleeping on a wooden bench, Shahid is leaning his head on her elbow. An airplane is seen leaving a vapour trail depicting two hearts. The two hearts are also seen in the first look, suggesting that the movie will be truly a romantic one at heart. -By Santa Banta News Network

'Drishyam' a gripping saga, but not a nail-biting one Movie Review: If we go by the thumb rule or rather logical thinking, then it suggests that an already told saga can never have the charm and curiosity which a pristine or newfangled tale can have. But as we all know that Bollywood is one such place, whose natives not only are capable of creating exceptions, but can also breed the weltanschauungs. And massive box office success and humongous critical acclamation of some of the southern remakes is one of the conspicuous proof of the same. Be it about remakes featuring Salman, Akshay or Ajay, every refurbished cine chronicle inspired from one or the other southern money spinners have set a new benchmark of success. Now with the unveiling of Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Shriya Saran starrer ‘Drishyam’ it will be interesting to see if history repeats itself or not. ‘Drishyam’ which is apparently the 3rd remake of Mohanlal starrer with same, and is latently based on the Keigo Higashino's famous novel ‘The Devotion of Suspect X’. Just like Mohanlal's Malayalam cine chronicle, this edition of the movie also narrates the story of school dropout/ under educated guy, Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay), who own a small cable business in a small hamlet of Goa. And is quite happy in his small world which has his wife Nandini (Shriya) and two daughters. But life of this happily living family

becomes harum-scarum when a grotesque incident comes to haunt them. And what follows next is even more devastating where one of their selfdefense acts go awry killing a young boy, Sam (Rishab Chadha), who happens to be the son of Goa's Inspector General of Police, Meera Deshmukh (Tabu). Things start getting even worst for, Vijay and his family when, Meera begins her ferocious quest to find out the latent truth, since it involves her son. So, what was that freaky reason which compelled Salgaonkars to kill Sam? Does Meera succeeds in getting hold of the reality? To know you have to watch this mildly gripping thriller cine yarn of, Nishikant Kamat. Well, as stated above and several times before, there is no denying that tailoring a remake is not as easy, as it seems to be. That's because while

fiddling with remakes one has dual responsibility on his/her shoulders. First, to match the benchmark created by the original and, second to pull the masses to the cine arenas, after publicly declaring that ‘It is an old ale in new bottle’. And when it's about crime thrillers then the task becomes even more tedious, because in this case viewers are already aware of the USP or selling proposition of the movie, i.e. "what's hiding behind the curtains’’. But despite having so many monkey wrenches on his way, Nishikant Kamat along with Drishyam's story writer Jeetu Jospeh has somehow managed to ditch this hurdles. Undoubtedly the thrill component which ‘Drishyam’ has in it is very well crafted, but because of the absence of that gripping potency it up till some extent starts looking like an ordinary cine

plot. As far curiosity coefficient is concerned then climax is the only instance which scores high on this curiosity gauge, otherwise for majority of instances high predictability appears as governing emperor of the premise (even for those who haven't seen the previous volumes). And this is one of the major flaws in the premise of ‘Drishyam’ which pastes that mediocre tag on the final product. Due to some perceivable flaws in the first half screenplay of Upendra Sidhaye is just satisfactory. Though throughout the run time viewers have numerous rendezvous with `on the qui vive` moments which keep their gazes fastened to the big screen. But eventually it's some of those chop-worthy extra minutes which act as spoilsport by slackening the pace of narration at some places and unnecessarily adding those good ten minutes to the length of the movie. But for that matter it will be more apt to blame it on movie's editor, Aarif Sheikh who should have taken his responsibilities more seriously. But thankfully in the second half the premise and flow of the narration re-gain the momentum and keep viewers attention fixated to the big screen till the culmination. Just like screenplay even background score of ‘Drishyam’ is just OK and that's because at many points it starts looking like a potpourri of inapt audio notes tied together to create that pseudo feel of thrill. -Santa Banta News Network

Writing your will keeps you in control (NC) No matter what the size of your estate, every adult should have a will. Without one, you risk leaving the distribution decisions to an impersonal formula, with the government writing the terms. A valid will ensures that your property will be dealt with according to your wishes and with a minimum of complications and expense for your estate. Without a will, your spouse may not receive as much as you would wish, your heirs will receive fixed percentages, regardless of their needs, and a court appointed administrator will handle your affairs. In making a will, it is important to give careful thought to what persons, needs or organizations you would like to benefit. It is best to consult a lawyer or notary to ensure your will is properly drawn up. This is much less expensive than most people imagine. Here are 10 reasons for drafting a will: 1. It's your property: A will guarantees that your assets will be distributed according to your wishes. 2. Children/Grandchildren: A will provides for the care of any children who are minors, enabling you to choose a guardian. Should both parents die, it assures the children do not become a ward of the Court. 3. Speedy settlement of affairs: Without a will, lengthy court delays could create undue hardship for your family. 4. Estate planning: When skillfully

drafted, a will allows you to incorporate tax-saving measures and avoid unnecessary taxes, resulting in increased funds for your beneficiaries. 5. Simplified distribution of your estate: By providing a blueprint and a list of directions, families will not have to guess about what you wanted. 6. Peace of mind: A certain peace of mind comes from knowing that you've drafted a will that sets out your true intentions. 7. Questions of capacity: If a person loses mental capacity, it's not legally possible to write a will.

8. Supporting your favourite causes:

A will assures that you can continue to help organizations you have believed in during your lifetime, such as a health, education or sports charity, or a human rights organization like Amnesty International. 9. Relieving any burden on your family: Reviewing the contents and nature of your estate and making known your decisions ahead of time for its disposition makes it easier on other family members. 10. Ability to be creative: There are relatively few rules that limit a testator's (person who writes a will) ability to make creative, thoughtful dispositions of property.

Snowbirds can make extra cash while away (NC) When the weather gets cold each year, many Canadians prepare to head south for the winter. Snowbirds are often retired and have a second home in the southern United States, Mexico, or the Caribbean. While many are focused on just getting to their vacation home or destination, others use this as an opportunity to rent their primary home and make some extra income. “If you are going to rent your home while you are away, make sure that you have the proper insurance coverage in place, says Wayne Ross, an insurance expert with Aviva Canada. “Talk to your insurance broker or insurer about setting up a rental property insurance policy.

Ross goes on to add, “Always protect your rights and your home by making the tenant sign a lease. And, it's always a good idea to ensure that the renter carries tenant's insurance. Having these documents in place will ensure that both parties are protected if something were to happen while you are away. To reduce potential issues and make

sure that the renting process goes as smooth as possible, consider these tips: • Advertise early and often: No one wants to try frantically to find an occupant a few days before departure. Start advertising the rental months in advance. • Consider hiring a property management company: If you don't mind spending a few dollars, a property manager can handle everything for you. Or, you could entrust a friend or family member to manage your property. • Remove valuables and secure your home: If you are going to rent your home, you need to treat it as a rental property. Remove any valuables and anything that you do not want your tenant to use while you are gone.

(NC) According to Fire Prevention Canada, on average eight Canadians die from fire every week despite the fact that fewer fire losses are reported in Canada. The non-profit organization has put together the following key fire safety tips to help Canadians protect themselves from such tragedy. Tip 1: Prevent cooking accidents Taking precautions to prevent cooking fires will significantly help protect your family and home against fire. Cooking related fires are the number one cause of home fires in Canada, resulting in many deaths and hundreds of injuries each year according to Fire Prevention Canada. Don't leave cooking appliances unattended when in use and be very cautious when cooking with oil. All cooking fires are preventable, so remember to select the proper heat for the food being prepared and keep your stove top clean and clear at all times. Tip 2: Prevent smoking accidents Smoking is another significant source of home fires. In fact, Fire Prevention Canada states that careless smoking is the leading cause of home fire deaths. A smoker falling asleep in an upholstered chair or bed is the most common occurrence. Never smoke or allow someone to smoke when they are under the influence of medication, alcohol or drugs.

Tip 3: Get a monitored smoke detector Lastly, having a monitored smoke detector will alert you to the presence of fire and smoke, giving you crucial notification to escape if needed. Smoke alarms are the first line (Open 10 am to 9 pm ET, Mon to Sat) of defense against a deadly fire, asserts Fire Prevention Canada. The sound of a smoke alarm is your warning to leave Insurance sold by Square One Insurance Services Inc. and underwritten by various companies. the building. By developing a fire escape plan and practicing it often, you will be prepared to react correctly if a fire strikes. It's crucial however to ensure that your smoke detector is functional. According to Patrice De Luca, V.P. of Customer Care for ADT Canada, 41 per cent of residential fires where the smoke alarm did not operate, the problem was due to the battery. “Smoke detectors can save lives, especially if they're connected to an ADT monitoring centre, because when the alarm sounds in your home, our monitoring centre is immediately notified,â€? he explained. NEW Monitored smoke detectors, from PRODUCT Protectron's line of products, also eliminate the worry of having to remember to replace the batteries. High Tech tools help parents keep children safe for Back to school (NC) With the summer break coming to a close, households across the country are getting ready for the drastic changes in schedule and routine. Due to busy work schedules, most parents are still working when their children come home from school. This makes it especially important to have a proper security plan in place for your children. According to Patrice De Luca, V.P. of Customer Care for ADT Canada, it's important to establish and practice a set routine with your children to keep them safe during this busy time of year. “These steps will then become second nature to them and will help ensure that they are maintaining proper safety habits while you're out,” he explained. Here are some tips that you can use to help keep your child safe during the back to school season. • Organize group walks where your children and their friends walk home together. • Ensure they never go off anywhere by themselves and keep an eye out for each other.

• Inform them that strangers who take an unusual interest in them should be avoided and let a trusted adult know about the incident. • Put into place a neighborhood watch to help keep an eye out for your children and for any suspicious activity. • If your kids come home to find an open door, shattered window, or a torn screen, instruct your kids to walk away

from the house to a neighbor's and contact you immediately. • Once safely in the home, remind them to never let anyone into the house; to keep all doors locked; and set the alarm system if you have one. Today's monitored security systems can be a great tool in helping protect your kids while they are home alone. In fact, the latest advancements in

technology have made ensuring the safety of your home and children a lot easier and more effective. The latest fully interactive wireless security systems from Protectron's line of products can include interior and exterior cameras with interactive surveillance that enables parents to see the comings and goings of their children in video or image format on their work computer or smarthpone. The new image sensor service, for example, is designed to deliver better security through visual checks of alarms and enhanced engagement through ondemand property views. Its integrated camera with infrared LED light captures pictures when motion is detected, even at night. Interactive surveillance also lets you record activities at preset times, or begin video recording when motion is detected, explained De Luca. With this system you can even remotely lock and unlock the doors for your kids and turn off the alarm from your phone, computer or tablet eliminating any risk of triggering false alarms by your kids. These safety measures will help ensure that going back to school is an exciting and safe time for both you and your children.

Take the stress out of back to school

(NC) For parents back to school season is a roller coaster of emotions. The desire to see our children maximize their potential while remaining safe and happy fills us with anxiety, pride, and concern. The safety and well-being of our children is always something that is top of mind for parents. This worry and concern is exemplified when it is time for our kids to head back to school. While some things are completely out of parent's control, it is important to take necessary precautions and prepare our children for what lies ahead. One common and avoidable back to school ailment that can impact kids in both the long and short term is backpack related injuries. Backpack related injuries are not something that immediately raises our concern, however sharing these simple strategies with our children can help them avoid injuries associated with backpacks and alleviate another back to school worry for parents: Choose the right backpack: Forget good looking leather. It's far too heavy. Go for vinyl or canvas. Pick a pack that has two wide, adjustable, padded shoulder straps, along with a hip or waist strap, padded back and plenty of pockets. Make sure the pack fits properly, is not too snug around the arms and under the armpits, and that its size is proportionate to the wearer's body. Pack it properly: Your kids are not moving out, so make sure to pack only what is needed for that day, and that the weight is distributed evenly. It's a good idea to know roughly what each item weighs. The total weight of the filled pack should be no more than 10 to 15 per cent of the wearer's own body weight. Put the backpack on properly: It's a good idea to help young children with this, at least the first few times. Put the pack on a flat surface, at waist height. Slip on the pack, one shoulder at a time, then adjust the straps to fit comfortably.
