We welcome you to our 5th “On the Farm Bull & Female Sale.” WOW Bull Sale Season here again, where did this past year go! First of all we would like to thank all the bidders and buyers of our genetics in the past year, without you people we would not be able to continue in this industry. We appreciate all of you, THANKS! Well I will refer to this set of calves as the survivors as they have seen it all, one of the worst winters I can remember for cold and snow (some of our offerings ears can attest to that) one of the worst 2 day storms that anyone in our corner of the world can remember on April 29&30, to the wettest springs we have ever had! Then one of the best summers and falls that one can imagine and now a fantastically warm winter that has been a dream to live and work through. Only in Saskatchewan can you experience it all! We believe strongly in the Angus cow and believe the performance of our cattle must be generated by the strengths and abilities of the mother cow with a lot less reliance on the feed bucket to achieve that performance. We hand feed our bulls a 14% pelletted ration with mineral and vitamin package and free choice processed hay with a targeted 3lb. Per day gain to insure the proper health for a breeding bull. We remind you that our sale is a video sale and a little more homework maybe needed to insure your proper selection. You should score more bulls prior to the sale to ease your mind when it comes to the sale ring. If we can help in any way with this process, we would be more than happy to help you. Our offering has some very good individual bulls that we feel very strongly about. Our female offering is very deep in quality and have been raised by some of the very best young cows we own. In our personal lives we again are proud of our life and especially our daughter Erika's achievements. In June she convocated from the University of Regina with a Degree in Business Administration, majoring in accounting and a minor in Economics and was quickly employed by Farm Credit Canada in Regina. Then in October she purchased a home in Regina but still commutes home on weekends to help out. CONGRATS ERIKA! Once again we welcome Clint, Shelli Oxtoby and their young girls as guest consignors to our sale, we really enjoy working with this young couple. And this year we welcome Martin & Jane Penfold as guest consignors as well with an offering of three bulls. Martin has produced our video & DVD over the last 4 years but he also has a small group of Angus cows, a number of them he has purchased from us. We hope you can join us on APRIL 2. elcome to the Kenosee Park Hills in South East Saskatchewan, one of the beautiful roughage producing regions in Canada. From here many great stockmen have evolved over the years, their expertise has evolved through necessity. With livestock being the agriculture stable, these folks have learnt to understand beef cows. Who better would you like to source your genetics needs from than producers in this area. Eastondale is a multigeneration Angus operation headed up by Dale & Shelly with Erika being the young force ever pushing forward. Eastons are involved in Angus activities of all kinds serving the fraternity from Angus boards to volunteer functions. Erika is one of the premium CJAA members and served at the CJAA Ambassador – Congratulations. The cattle program follows in terms of a functional working cow herd; not unlike the people who raise them. The cow families at Eastondale have evolved to become highly recognized; headed up by the great Forever Lady 9136. 9136 produced a host of great progeny including Eastondale Break Away 32'07 who became the Reserve Champion Bull at the WAF 2009. This year's sire roster is headed up by Break Away, Dryland Max and a host of other leading bulls. Also please do check out the bulls from the guest consignors, Rockin Ox Ranch and Oakwood Grange Angus. Come early, view the offering as you will again be bidding on these bulls inside while on video. And yes do not miss the special heifers being sold. Our cows winter graze on banked grass until the first week of January, and yet they are fat and sassy when they come into calve. Our calves are never crept fed and our cows only get grain as a treat. We feel that this management system gives us the most accurate data as to what the true ability of our cows is. I
came to Canada in 1975 to work for Clark Lewis, who farmed near Vandura. As a young man who was desperate to farm on his own, it was a great opportunity and one that changed the future of our lives. Several years later we had a chance to rent the Bobby Watton farm, north of Kelso. The same spring, Edgar Lewis sold us his herd of Black and Red Baldy cows, the start of our involvement with the Angus breed. Jane and I now live, and farm, close to the community of Manson, some 10 miles East of Moosomin. Our 3 girls have all grown up and left home and are following their own careers. Ceri as a teacher, Bethan works in Human Resources and Katherine as a singer / songwriter. We have nearly always involved the Angus breed in our commercial cows. A number of years ago I had the opportunity to buy some registered Angus cows from the Ottman dispersal and later from Eastondale Angus. My interest has been in following breeding lines that are more traditional to the Angus breed and I have tried to build my herd with easy keeping, moderate sized cows. The Right Time bull, that I was able to buy from Dale several years ago, has given me so many quality heifers. The 3 bulls I have on offer at this years sale are all sired by Eastondale Right Time, a long, thick bull with the strong maternal genetics to help you build the right type of females. I really enjoy the challenges with a purebred operation and the world of genetics that are on offer to us. It's an interesting time to be involved with the cattle industry in North America and I appreciate the chance to work with the experience and knowledge at Eastondale Angus.
