When we were looking for a new Black Simmental bull to breed our few black cows to, we immediately liked the look of Club King. He has the muscle expression on his rear that is so lacking in a lot of Black Simmentals. He has not disappointed. He caught 7 out of 8 cows and gave us 6 bulls and 1 heifer. We are keeping the heifer. His calves came easy and were small until they hit grass - then pow! They really took off. Muscle, style and thickness. Look over his 5 sons and tell me which one is the best. Lockhart Valley reserves the right to draw semen on any Club King bull.

Here’s the third Club King bull calf in our string and what a powerhouse he is. This bulls dam is a real producer and it shows in this calf. Long spined but has the rump of a Fullblood bull. The dam of 29Y is this bulls maternal sister. Productivity runs in this cow family and when you throw Club King in the mix you’ve got the “Wow” factor. He is an out-cross to alot of black pedigrees and in my opinion would do the breed alot of good. This cow produced a really good First Dream bull calf that sold in our 5th sale. He was purchased by Remington Cattle Co. and they used him heavily in their Black Angus program and at the time of their dispersal this past fall he was moved into the Simmental program and used there. This bull was admired this summer for his moderate frame and thickness. Solid black, large testicles and a good temperament, this is the last of the Club King calves. His dam is a small framed, back-blaze faced cow out of the famous cow maker Black Joker. His dam has just had his full brother and he weighed 82 lbs at birth. Definately a heifer bull. Lee feels this calf would be safe to use on heifers also. For Black Simmental breeders or the astute commercial man, this calf is an outcross to many black pedigrees.

Its hard to find a heifer bull but when we saw 42W in Porters 2010 Bull Sale line-up we knew we had found the bull. He’s so stylish, has big testicles and best of all he has great big feet under him. This guy is an aggressive breeder. 42W calves like a dream. As I’m writing this, Lee and I watched a heifer calve to him and from start to finish (calf on ground) less than 30 minutes. Easy calving and explosive growth. What a hard combination to find. We used him this spring in the heifer pen, the he went out into the cow pen. Look for more of his sons next year.

Heres the second calf from our red factor heifer bull. This little bull calf is related to 25Y. LHVS 23 and 25Y are maternal sibs. This calf is solid red with a blaze face. Smaller framed with good hair, feet and temperament. 62Y also has good testicle development. We are very pleased with PRL 42W, the bull we purchased from Porters in 2010. He calves perfectly on heifers but his calves have good performance. Many commercial men are wanting low birth weight bulls but lots of gaining ability, that’s hard to find, but any of these three 42W sons will fit the profile nicely.

We used Big Sky a long time ago and really liked how he calved and the maternal strengths of his daughters. Semen is hard to find, but we found a couple of straws and got 1 heifer and 1 bull. Blue’s calves, especially the bulls are like peas in a pod. 54Y is from a really thick stout Jenkins red factor cow. This calf has old breeding in his pedigree from the dams side. His pedigree has some excellent bulls in there such as: Hook’s Red Quorum and BHL Mr Zotte 64Z. Both highly maternal bulls. 54Y is thick, soggy, hairy and good testicled. Heres a really good SU Jenkins son from a Sim-Roc Stroller Cow. Stroller is very rare to find in your semen tank and we really had to dig deep here. 70U is a small yellow cow with a perfect udder. Her maternal sister has a Jahari bull calf in the sale. Both sisters come from my favorite cow LHVS 52M. We’ve sold bull calves from her in past sales and with the maternal lineage this calf has I’d buy him just for the females he’d make. Backed by Jenkins this calf can’t miss. We flushed our good polled Full Fleckvieh cow, 10R to Gidsco Apollo and as a result we have a very unique pedigreed bull. Dark red with a big star on his forehead, this calf offers a blend of old and new genetics. He came out horned but keep in mind his dam is a polled cow. 10R is definitely a stout old girl and is the dam of Bellringer. Apollo is a cow maker and backed by 10R, 25Y should be a cow maker himself. Good feet, hair coat and temperament. Hannah thinks this is one of our best bulls and should stay at home. Fullblood

First off let me describe 76Y. Dark red, double goggled, good hair, body length and good feet and legs. He’s the only Whistler son in the sale (Whistler liked to throw heifers this past year) and we felt he deserved a look over. His dam is from a Bar 5 Evans son we raised and sold to Dale Andrews. 76Y would be an excellent cross on a British based herd. He’ll add length of spine and pounds on your calves. Shawacres Jahari is an older bull that we used a few years ago and we thought he might work well on Jenkins daughters. Disappoint he did not. We have a couple of Jahari daughters and really like the femininity and productivity they have. His calves are usually dark red with lots of pigment and hair. He gave us alot of daughters and a couple of bulls - both of whom are in the sale. Both are definitely beef bulls and their calves will put added pounds to your calf crops weaning weights. Lee and I dug deep in the semen tank and found some Jahari semen. We’ve used him before and really like the maternal traits he throws. This bull is dark red with some white on him. If you want your calves to show “Simmental influence” use him. He’s double goggled with an excellent set of feet under him. Nice temperament and testicles. Many people are surprised that a lot of our cows are not big and huge. 74Y’s dam is such a cow. Smaller in stature but loads of performance. This calf is also smaller in frame size but looks like a little tank walking around the pen. He’s dark red and double goggled. Born near the end of January his dam still weaned him at near 900 lbs. Again, nice temperament, testicle development, hair and feet.

Since Bellringer is a caving ease bull with added performance we decided to use him on cows that like to put extra pounds on their calves at birth. 34Y’s dam is such a cow and the “Ringer” did what we wanted, smaller birthweight calf but good performance. Bellringer always marks his calves nicely and this boy is no exception. Good hair, temperament and testicle development. His dam is a Roonik cow who is very much a performance cow - but she’s small framed, has a good udder and is as thick as a clubhouse sandwich. I wish she’d have heifers but shes a bull maker. Take a look, I think you’ll like him.

This stout fellow is from a deep bodied Bar 5 Evans cow. 11P is a real sweet-heart and a pleasure to work with. This bull is hairy, deep and thick. Nice tempered and has excellent testicles. Bellringer worked really well on this cow and helped her in keeping her calf’s BW down. This youngster should calve easy and put those all important pounds on your calves.

Two springs ago we went down a bull and decided to put the Bellinger out as a clean-up on our cows. Thank goodness we did because he really worked well. This small framed calf is very stylish indeed. Good hair, temperament and marked up really nice. Definitely a calving ease bull - heifer recommended.
