VCPAC Report (Amy) (5 min) - The Annual General Meeting is on April 26th at Cedar Hill Middle school with elections to follow. Nominations are due on April 22 nd although they can be made from the floor at the time - The VCPAC awards nominations are due on May 3rd; see here: http://www.vcpac.ca/vcpac-awards to nominate a special teacher, parent or volunteer 6. Business/Action items arising from previous minutes: a. Book fair - Volunteers are being trained - There will be an Interac machine this year b. Playground/ grant writing team (Aaren/ Maria) (5 min) - Sutton Group and Rotary Club have been approached for funds; the Sutton Group has an Adopt A School program and we are waiting to see if our school is chosen. The Rotary Club grant has an Aug. 31st deadline for funding next year. - Chris at Garden City has created a concept drawing which may be shown at the end of the meeting and then again at a Playground Meeting for everyone who is interested and wants to provide feedback. Once the plan is approved by the school community then it moves onto the District which needs to check it over for safety before the final drawing is done and construction begins. c. Victoria West Elementary School Parent Advisory Committee April 13 2016, 6:30-8:00 pm General Meeting Minutes - Floor hockey club ends on April 26: AM to write a card to thank Scott for coming from Esquimalt High to enthusiastically support this club. c. Staples – program/ support (5 min) - We do not have enough volunteers to organize and distribute the school supplies this year. We are encouraging parents to look here: https://vicwest.sd61.bc.ca/parent-info/school-supplies-2015-2016/ and go to Monks with the list for one-stop shopping d. Gaming night (5 min) - S&B with Interactivity Board Game Cafe are offering schools a special parent education night where they bring games into the school and provide instruction and support to those playing. PAC could provide treats to purchase. - Super important that only families come (no children on their own). We could have ‘teams’ to encourage this - Cost to PAC is $50 per expert with a minimum of three experts = $150 (we could use some of that additional parent Ed money) - Administrators were happy with the idea and thought it was a great way to get kids away from screens and families playing together. Might become an alternative to family movie night. Action item: Discuss at next Executive Meeting and AM to invite a spokesperson to next PAC meeting to pitch the idea. e. Vic West Fest Sat May 14 from 11-3pm (10 min) - Important that the PAC is there to represent the school and answer questions. What will we do? Bubbles? Chess? Long paper with questions for kids to answer? - Who can be there? Possibly MM, CM, AM? Anyone else available? Action item: AM reply yes to request and then we can sort out the details at the next Exec. Meeting. AB to put out a call for volunteers far and wide. f. Vic West St Fest Sun June 12 (by May 13) (10 min) - deemed not worth attending from previous experience & lack of volunteers

Thank you so much for supporting Vic West Elementary! NEXT PAC MEETING: May 11, 2016 6:30 – 8:00 pm in the Library www.vicwestpac.com
