Codes and Conventions of Interviews Filming: > Interviews are framed to the left or right of the frame > Close up or medium close up > They don’t look into the camera > Eyeline of interview is a third way down the screen and they don’t look at the camera > They look at the interviewer > The interviewer must be on the same level. (both sitting or both standing. Their eyes must NOT be looking up). > All interviewees sat down on stationary chair so they don’t move around > Light- Interviewees are never filmed with light behind them. Light source must always be in front (no window behind) > Mise-en-scene- The background reinforces content on interview or relevant to interviewee (anchoring their occupation. Providing more information about their occupation or personal circumstances)

Editing: > Cutting. > Questions are edited out; cutaways are used here. > Cutaways are used to avoid jumpcuts, which is where you cut the question out and the person jumps on screen > Therefore archive material is used but the voice is still playing or suggested by what the interview is talking about > Interview more than one person and they're cut together to create the narrative. Have one person after another talking on the same topic.

Graphics: > Usually two lines: The name is a bigger type size and the second line anchors the relevance of the topic > It could have a theme.
