ord Motor Co. plans to offer both compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) fuel options on its 2014 F-150 trucks. The pickups will be equipped with a 3.7L V6 engine and a factory-installed gaseous-fuel prep package that includes hardened valves, valve seats, pistons and rings to allow the half-ton vehicles to operate on either CNG or gasoline through separate fuel systems. Jon Coleman, Ford fleet sustainability and technology manager, explained that CNG/LPG engine prep from the factory costs about $315 before the customer chooses a qualified vehicle modifier to supply fuel tanks, fuel lines and unique fuel injectors.
