Happy Holidays! I hope you are getting to spend time with family, friends and loved ones over the holiday season. For me, the holidays always feel like they start with the ABBI and PBR World Finals- I get to see so many people and the excitement is incredible. I hope you had the chance to attend this year. It was our biggest and best ABBI Finals to date with seven events. I’d like to thank everyone who was involved- staff, sponsors, friends, fans, and stock contractors. I was proud to see how many people showed up to watch our events. That truly tells you that our sport is starting to reach the next level and cultivating a dedicated fan base. We have enjoyed good crowds at our Classic events for years and we are all used to seeing fellow stock contractors and our families and friends in the stands at Futurity events, but in Vegas at our Futurities we had a ton of people who were just there as bucking bull fans. And our Wild Card, Derby and Maturity events had the biggest crowds we’ve ever had. I’d like to congratulate our newest champions: Shepherd Hills Tested and Jungle Fear. They proved themselves to be the best Classic and Futurity bull and that is what the ABBI is all about- the opportunity for the best to compete against the best. We are gearing up for another year and I want you to know that members come first and your board, shareholders and staff are dedicated to making it the best year ever. There will always be discussions and differences of opinion in an organization as large as ours, but we want everyone to know that we welcome your ideas and insights and are always striving to improve and do what is best for the majority of our members. The 2013 season will kick off December 28 in Fort Worth at the Cowtown Classic. I feel honored to get to produce the first event of the year and hope you can be there.

Welcome 2013! 2013 is almost here and I’d like to thank everyone who made 2012 our best year ever. I was so impressed by the success of our ABBI World Finals and credit needs to go to our dedicated staff and sponsors who worked so hard to make it possible. And, as always, none of it would be possible without the support of members. I, and everyone involved, would like to extend our appreciation for being a part of the world’s premier bucking bull organization. We’re excited about how well the inaugural season of Back Seat Buckers went. Gary Long certainly has an eye for talent- the bull he picked at the draft at Cowboys Stadium, Long Shot 2, won $250,000 in Vegas after bucking in the championship round in front of a packed crowd at Thomas & Mack. Many of the BSB bulls will be continuing on in our 3-year-old Back Seat Buckers Derby program, while a new crop of BSB Futurity bulls are currently being assembled to offer anyone the opportunity to become a stock contractor. Our turn-key bull ownership program has been popular among fans, contractors just starting out, celebrities and some of the biggest name breeders in the business.
I think the people that have enjoyed the BSB program the most however are groups of friends and families. We had women who made it a “girl’s trip” when they traveled to Built Ford Tough Series cities to watch their bull buck and enjoy a PBR weekend. We had families where everyone from grandchildren to grandparents got involved in picking their bull and then went to the Las Vegas Finals as their family vacation for the year. I’d like to say “thank you” to all the people who believed in the BSB program this first year. From the breeders who sold us your Futurity bulls to the owners who jumped on board to participate and all the staff who worked tirelessly to make it a success- whether they worked in the office or trained and cared for the bulls. Please take the time to look at the ABBI Biz Section this issue, we have important announcements and staff news to share with you. can’t believe 2012 is about to come to a close and the season is now officially over. Las Vegas was a whirlwind of activity and every year it seems to go by faster- even though we add events each year! I never have enough time to visit with as many members, sponsors or breeders as I’d like to. Even if I just saw you for a second in passing, I want you to know I appreciate you coming to Vegas and for being a part of what I think is the best bucking bull organization in the world, hands down. We couldn’t have had a better host than South Point and if you attended any of our events there, you can attest to what an amazing facility it is. We held all of our events, except for the Classic Finals and BSB Championship Round, at South Point Arena and had great crowds turnout to support our great bulls. My thanks to South Point for being a great partner to us. I hope you got to check out our booth at South Point. It truly was an interactive experience with not only merchandise and souvenirs for sale, but our BSB trailer on display and video feeds playing of our events too. If you missed it but are attending WNFR this year, please come by and see our booth at South Point.
It was exciting to see Gary and Nancy Long win the first Back Seat Buckers World Finals. This program brought in a lot of new people to the business and gave folks the opportunity to have the thrill of owning a bucking bull (my mom included)! It seemed like everyone had a lot of fun, made new friends and was excited at having a shot at a piece of $500,000. Next year will be even better with both a new batch of Futurity bulls competing and a Derby division for the current Futurity bulls moving on in the program. 2013 will be a landmark year for ABBI. It marks our 10 year anniversary and it seems like just yesterday I did the first magazine (which was really just a newsletter) for ABBI. My heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported our organization- from the shareholders who believed in the idea enough to band together and buy the registry and start a new company with partner PBR, to the board members and staff who have dedicated themselves to the company for the last decade. I hope you got to spend Thanksgiving with loved ones. Happy holidays and I look forward to 2013.

Drag, payout and Books As we look forward to the 2013 ABBI season, we wanted to remind our members about payouts, when books open and close, and the drag. Please take a moment to review. Books will open two weeks prior to the week of the competition. Books open on Mondays at 8:00 am MST and close the following Monday at 12:00 pm (noon) MST. All events will be open for a minimum of a week, although events may fill up sooner. The payout for all Classic and Futurity events will remain the same as 2012. This means prize money will be paid one hole for every four entries up to 10 places. If less than 40 entries, then one place is paid for every four bulls entered. No more than 10 positions will be paid. The one exception to this rule is the American Heritage Futurity Event. After all deductions, the first 10 positions will be paid according to the Standard Payout scale. Event payout will be determined after check-in of the bulls and the number of entries is confirmed. Per the rulebook, this is how the drag works, which is the same as 2012. For a Classic, the drag takes 35% of entry fees and puts it back into the World Finals Classic payout. For a Futurity, the drag is $100 per bull entry and put back into the World Finals Futurity payout. Please feel free to refer to your rulebook, which is also available online, or contact the office if you need further clarification or have questions. We look forward to another record-setting season and appreciate you taking the time to review this information.

Super Stakes Incentive Program Want to increase your bucking stock’s market value? Then you’ll want to be a part of the Super Stakes Program. This new program provides added incentive for Bucking Stock owners who buck their bulls in ABBI Events. The Super Stakes Program pays cash dividends for money earned by nominated bulls at ABBI-approved events. In fact, the Super Stakes Program is the most unique incentive program in the bucking stock industry today. Here are some of the program benefits: • Bull calves that are registered in their birth year by December 31 will have the opportunity to enter into the program for only $25.00/head • As a bull calf gets nominated the sire and dam also gets nominated provided that both sire and dam are verified. • Super Stakes money is divided and paid annually. Payouts are based on the total number money earned by the bulls at the end of the 2-Year-Old Year, 3-Year-Old Year and 4-Year-Old Year. • A list of nominated calves will be published January through October issues of The American Bucking Bull, Inc. This is an added service to provide potential buyers with the information needed to make informed decisions when buying ABBI registered bulls. • The calf will be listed as a Super Stake Participant in the registry.
Information for Bull and Cow Owners This program highlights not only the calf but the dam and sire as well. This is a great way to increase the value of the sire or dam by enrolling their offspring into the program.

Payout: Payout will occur every year the bull is competing in an ABBI event at the end of the season. Payout will be based on money won. Below is the possible payouts (management fees not excluded).
Rules and Regulations • All calves nominated in the Super Stakes Program must be registered and nominated in their birth year. • EID tag must be placed in the calves’ ear in the birth year. Online entry available for animals who have EID tags. »» Any Re-tags must be done immediately in order to keep records up to date on the calf. • Parent penalties may apply per event. • A bull calf nomination becomes effective when the nomination form and appropriate fees are received in the ABBI Office. • A bull calf nomination fee is non refundable. • ABBI General Regulations can be found in the ABBI Rulebook.
How to Enroll: For 2012 calves it is easy, just enter them online or by checking the box for Super Stakes when registering.

Letter from Kaycee Simpson Clarifying Payout
I wanted to take a moment to clarify some confusion about the World Finals payout. The Board decided to go from paying 20 holes to paying 10 holes last year and this was the first Finals where that payout structure was in place. It has come to my attention that some members were not aware of that change. I’d like to apologize for not better communicating this change. I assumed everyone had read the 2012 rule book and was aware of the Board’s decision, but I heard from many members in Las Vegas who thought the places paid were the same as 2011. Although less holes were paid, more money was paid out at ABBI events in 2012, we paid out $2,555,216. And in 2011, we paid out $2,378,997. Last year the decision was made to pay the Top 10 bulls rather than spread it out over 20 holes. Per the rulebook, the exception is the American Heritage.
The amount of money available in Vegas each year is of course based on how many regular season events we’ve had, the number of entries at those events and what the total drag is. For 2013, we will be posting every payout online in advance. This will also show any added money and any drag going back to the Finals purse. By knowing the exact payout in advance, you can make a decision on whether or not you want to enter an animal in an event. Our goal is always to provide our members with as much information as possible and we regret any confusion. Please regularly check the website this season so we can keep you in the loop. As always, the Board is always open to hearing ideas and suggestions on ways we can improve.

ABBI Wild Card Claremore: 084 Takes the Crown

The annual ABBI Wild Card Futurity event was held at Lightning C Arena in Claremore, Okla. Bull 084 from Mo Betta / Gene Baker took first with a 21.5 to lay claim to $10,000 and a coveted spot at the ABBI Futurity World Finals in Las Vegas. “This was a last chance for a 2-year-old to get qualified for a shot at $100,000 in Las Vegas,” explained ABBI Executive Director Kaycee Simpson. “We paid out through tenth place and are taking the top 20 to the Finals.” Tying for second with a 21 were 055 from Andrews Rodeo and Recovery Time from Barker Bulls. Other top 10 finishers were Hot Date, Slim White, Atomic Kitten, KC370, Tequila Sunrise, Big Stretch and Aduddell 140.

Shepherd Hills Tested is the 2012 American Bucking Bull Inc. Classic Champion. The 4-year-old owned by Luthy, Duckwall, D&H Cattle, and Shepherd Hills Cutlery clinched the title and $250,000 with 93 points after bucking off J.B. Mauney on Saturday, October 26 during the fourth round of the Professional Bull Riders Built Ford Tough World Finals at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. A favorite to win the ABBI Classic championship based on his outstanding regular season performance (and year-end champion title), Shepherd Hills Tested came into the final round in fifth place after his first out score of 88.5 points. Judges were so impressed by his championship round performance against Mauney that their scores put him over the top with a total of 181.5 points. Finishing in the Top 5 were 3 and 4-year-old bulls Mickey Mouse, Fairy Tattoo, Mud Wasp and Prince Albert. Shepherd Hills Tested won more than $71,000 during the regular season, bringing his season total to over $300,000.

Pillow Bucking Bulls won $100,000 for Jungle Fear’s first place finish in the the American Bucking Bull, Inc. World Futurity Finals on October 24, while Rim Shot’s performance in the Junior event netted owner Paige Stout a $5,000 pay day. Nearly 80 of the best 2-year-old bucking bulls vied for top honors in the ABBI competition held Thursday at the South Point Arena & Equestrian Center. Jungle Fear faced stiff competition throughout the 2012 season, according to owner Bobby Pillow, but performed at his best when he had to. “He bucked as well as you could expect a bull to buck. He did everything we asked him to do,” the Antlers, Okla., native said.
Pillow has been raising bucking bulls for almost a decade and has high hopes for Jungle Fear. “He’s a really good bull,” he said. “I think he could go on all the way to be a Classic bull.” Stout also sees a bright future for Rim Shot. The bull bested six other contenders in the Junior Futurity Wold Finals with a score of 20. “I hope one day he’ll get to PBR,” she said. The 18-year-old Weatherford Texan has been raising bucking bulls for almost six years; she commended the abilities of the other bulls competing against Rim Shot. “Every bull is here for a reason, but this was his time to shine,” Stout said. “I’m really proud of him.”

W10 Stir Crazy bucked his way to first place and $100,000 in the inaugural ABBI Lifetime Derby Friday, October 25 at South Point Arena & Equestrian Center. Owned by Bob and Jeri Adams/D&H Cattle/Buck Cattle, W10 Stir Crazy beat out around 50 other 3-year-olds with 89.75 points. Placing second at the Derby with a score of 88.75 was Breakdown, owned by Vermejo River Ranch/Bloyd Bucking Bulls, followed by Monty Samford/Buddy Garrett’s Bring It On with 88.5 points, then Bring It’s Pride, owned by Samford/Long, with a score of 88, and finally Flyboy, owned by Frontier, Nelson/Ray/Folds/Strickland with 88.75 points. “Stir Crazy did OK as a Futurity bull, but he’s got the size in him now that I think he’s really going to get with it,” Bob Adams said. “He’s a Classic bull next year, and I’m just excited as hell.” Adams lives in DeSoto, Texas, and has been raising bucking bulls for 4 years. CLAIMING THE BIG MONEY
The annual Maturity Claimer took place during the ABBI World Finals. This unique event offered $35,000 for first place and any bull entered could be claimed for $15,000. Claims had to be turned in prior to the bull bucking, and if there were multiple claims the new owner was determined by cutting cards. Two bulls ultimately tied for first place on October 26 at the South Point Arena & Equestrian Center in Las Vegas. Blind Side and Bel Air, owned by Circle T Ranch & Rodeo and Ravenscroft/Hewkin/Boyd-Floyd respectively, shared top honors and with 89 points apiece. The ABBI Maturity competition drew a total of 26 bulls 3-years and older. Each of the top four bulls from the American Bucking Bulls, Inc. Classic Wild Card on Wednesday, October 23 earned a shot to compete against some of the best riders in the world. More importantly, they earned a shot at competing against the bulls already qualified for the Classic World Finals and a shot at $250,000. ASTEROID BEATS OUT BUSHWACKER
In the immediate moments following the completion of the World Finals, Jeff Talley and Gene Melton stood almost unnoticed behind the celebration that was taking place on the arena dirt inside the Thomas & Mack Center. As emotionally taxing as the entire 2012 season had been they actually looked defeated. Instead their hard work and effort along with all the tears and even some laughter had paid off when Asteroid was named the World Champion Bull. As much as it was a moment for Asteroid, it was, perhaps, a greater moment for the memory of Talley’s parents. “This whole season was in honor of mom and dad,” said Talley, who lost his mother in January and lost his father – Howard Talley, the heart and soul of Circle T Ranch & Rodeo – a few months later. “Now we can go ahead with business as usual and see what we can do, but it is almost a relief. “It’s hard to explain. We’d go to an event and Asteroid would win or our bulls would do good and then we’d have a hard time getting to the next one. We added some bulls and didn’t know how that would work out. Everything kind of came together and it culminated here. “It worked out,” he continued, “but it’s been an emotional roller coaster. It’s been a physical roller coaster and all year it’s been that way.”

In a hard-fought battle that has seen the top two bulls go back and forth for the past two seasons, it was Asteroid who finally won this year’s World Champion Bull title. Asteroid and last year’s title winner Bushwacker were both marked 46.75 points in the opening round out. Asteroid bucked off Eneias Barbosa, while Bushwacker bucked off Marcho Eguchi. Four days later they meet up for the final time in 2012. Bushwacker drew Agnaldo Cardozo in the Championship Round. He bucked him off and was marked 46.25 points – his lowest mark since scoring 46.25 points in back to back outs in Kansas City and Tulsa, Okla. Four riders later, L.J. Jenkins climbed atop Asteroid. Jenkins managed to stay on for 6.44 seconds before coming off. The buckoff eliminated Jenkins’ chances of winning the world title, but gave Asteroid the World Champion Bull title by quarter point when he was marked 46.5 points. Asteroid finished second in the race a year ago and both bulls are expected to be the top two contenders again in 2013. Prior to the World Finals, the two contenders competed head-tohead 11 times in the past two seasons. Bushwacker posted the higher score eight times, including the past six meetings leading up to their two outings in Las Vegas. “It worked out like it was supposed to,” Talley said Sunday afternoon just before walking up on to the shark cage to formally accept the award for World Champion Bull. “This whole day has been pretty rough on me.

“I went through exactly what he went through,” Melton added. “We went through all that together. I don’t know yet if I’m relieved until I step up there.” Given the season both had endured it was hard to imagine it had come to this moment. After being called to the shark cage, Talley turned back and said “it really is a relief.” Melton smirked and said, “I don’t know if it soaked in or not.”
ALVES WINS SECOND STRAIGHT WORLD TITLE
It was déjà vu all over again. For the second year in a row Silvano Alves and Robson Palermo stood atop the shark cage on Championship Sunday as the back-to-back World Champion and back-to-back World Finals event winner No one had won either title in subsequent seasons in the history of the PBR. Alves finished the event sixth in the average to barely hold off Guilherme Marchi in what is considered the deepest race for a world title in the 19 year history of the PBR. Alves, who has now surpassed $3 million in career earnings quicker than any other rider, beat Marchi by 659.25 points. L.J. Jenkins, Valdiron de Oliveira and Austin Meier rounded out the Top 5 in the world standings. All five contenders advanced to the Championship Round and all five had an opportunity to win the title.
PALERMO CLAIMS WORLD FINALS EVENT FOR THIRD TIME
Despite several injuries – any one of which could very well have ended his season – Palermo claimed the Finals event for the third time in his career and the second time in as many seasons. No other rider has won it back-to-back seasons or come close to claiming the $250,000 bonus three times.
Palermo missed 10 Built Ford Tough Series events after having his left shoulder repaired last off-season after he finished the 2011 season with a torn rotator cuff in the shoulder of his riding arm. This year, he tore the right rotator cuff in July and then just one day before leaving Texas for the Finals he suffered a dislocated left shoulder in the practice pen. He then dislocated his left kneecap in the early rounds. The crafty veteran, who has yet to compete an entire season without suffering a significant injury, still managed to finish seventh in the world standings. He earned more than $300,000 in Las Vegas to with more than $160,000 during the season. He’ll turn 29 next month and has won more than $2.3 million in his career. He’s just over $1.1 million the past two seasons – more than half of which has come in Las Vegas. RESENDE TOP ROOKIE Brazilian newcomer Emilio Resende capped a stellar rookie season by finishing second at the World Finals. Resende was third in rookie earnings with $89,000 when he arrived in Las Vegas and by the time he left he pocketed more than $271,000 to win the 2012 Rookie of the Year title. He won nearly $182,000 at the Finals, including $25,000 when he won the Championship Round with an 89.75 point rider on David’s Dream. The 25 year old from Santa Helena do Goias, Brazil, covered four of six bulls at the season-ending event. Resende competed in 14 of 29 events in 2012 and afterward, while celebrating with his fellow countrymen and PBR fans, he said with a full season he hopes to be among next year’s world title contenders.
COLEMAN CLAIMS FIFTH SANCTIONED EVENT OF THE YEAR
It was quite a week for Ross Coleman. The Oregon native started the week off by being inducted into the Ring of Honor along with Mike White and then closed out the week by winning the Sanctioned Event of the Year for the fifth time. Affectionately known as “summer camp,” the Ross Coleman Invitational Finals winner Robson Palermo and PBR is held every August in World Champion Silvano Alves celebrate Molalla, Ore. “We have their victories a pretty good time,” said Coleman, who has more than $350,000 for charity. In past years he made donations to the Makea-Wish Foundation and beginning this year he worked to help raise funds for Western Wishes. Since retiring from competition, Coleman has been working with the ABBI and is closely involved with the wildly successful Back Seats Buckers program. Shepherd Hills Tested: The Knife Swap That Led to a Legend by James Drew
This is the tale of how Shepherd Hills Tested rocketed into a spectral, molten-lava-hot meteorite on hooves, and how a simple pocketknife became a family heirloom. Knife Swap No. 1 H.D. Page and his father, Dillon, own one of the most decorated, enterprising and famed bull-breeding businesses in the world: D&H Cattle Company in Ardmore, Okla. Tom Teague, Page and Don Kish hammered out a deal for a 4-yearold bull named Smooth Move. Kish owned him; Teague and Page coveted him. “He was as impressive as any young bull I’d ever seen,” said Page. “We gave too much money for Smooth Move, but we had to have him for a breeding bull. He broke loose off the ground and threw his front end up high in the air. This was one athletic bull. “He didn’t do very well during his (ABBI) Classic years. We won only about a third of our money back. He passed away this past summer, but we got quite a few calves and daughters out of him that we are very high on. It feels like we’re gonna make that money back and then some.” Smooth Move put his moniker into practical use on a daughter of the late, great, Hotel California and the result was Shepherd Hills Tested. Shepherd Hills Tested flung the first 13 PBR buzzer-seekers who yanked their ropes on him this season; J.B. Mauney snapped that string Sept. 15 in Springfield, Mo., with a flashy 92.5-point spin — to the left as usual. “I’m pretty aggravated at J.B.,” Page joked. “At least he could have made Tested look a little harder to ride. “Honestly, I was tickled for J.B. It’s nice to have one that’s unridden, but I’ve been around long enough to know they don’t stay that way. I can’t say the bull had a bad day. He bucked; J.B. just rode him. Stock contractors always think a bull looks ranker when he’s bouncing someone on his head, but it was a good trip.

“It was a win-win deal for me. I was hoping J.B. would pick that bull, because I needed a left-hander for that bull to show his skills.” That’s because right-handers have serious issues staying on Shepherd Hills Tested longer than two seconds. “I like everything about that bull; he’s been special since day one,” Page said. “The really cool thing about him is his disposition. He has plenty of life, but he’s quiet enough that he’s not gonna kill himself in pens or kill you when you’re handling him. He’d make a good steer if he weren’t such a good bucking bull. He’s an easy doer. “I’ve never been disappointed in him one time. His quick buck offs kill his bull score a lot of times, but those are his rankest days. When he leaves there and drops his right shoulder, and his front end is already off the ground, it’s almost impossible for a right-hander to get to the corner. It’s a judged event. It’s a show. Everything’s gotta come together to get a good score. It’s not a good show when it lasts one second.” Page loves telling the story of how he joined forces with the partners now sharing ownership. “Three years ago, Rod Reid bought half-interest in one of our bulls,” Page said. “He gave me a really nice case pocketknife. I figured I owed him a favor, so I told him we’d slap the Shepherd Hills name on that bull.”

That’s how Shepherd Hills Trapper was named; two more bulls, Shepherd Hills Tested and Shepherd Hills Sod Buster, also bear the Shepherd Hills name. “Unfortunately, I had to swap that knife Rod gave me, because I have a short thumb (due to a roping accident) and there was no knob for me to be able to open it easily,” Page said. Who is Rod Reid, what is Shepherd Hills, and whatever happened to that knife?
Knife Swap No. 2 PBR Livestock Director Cody Lambert watched Shepherd Hills Tested buck during the 2011 ABBI World Finals. As he settled into his seat two months later for the National Finals Rodeo, Lambert had no recol-

lection of the bull. But Tested didn’t take long to catch his attention. “I thought he was the best bull there and the judges scored him the highest,” Lambert said, “but the stock contractors didn’t vote him the top bull. As a fan, I thought he was the absolute best.” In 2012, Lambert has used Shepherd Hills Tested in Built Ford Tough Championship rounds when there was no ABBI event conflict. While wowing PBR fans with his athletic escapades, Tested was also racking up one ABBI Classic event win after another. “In the middle of the year, he lost his edge as far as being a Classic bull,” Lambert said. “They just didn’t ride him long enough to be able to tell what he had. This is a bull that gets stronger as the ride goes on, and you have to see him past four seconds to see his true brilliance. He’s more impressive between five and eight seconds than he is between one and four.”

Lambert rates Tested among the best 20 PBR bulls, and considered him a favorite for the ABBI Classic Finals title going into Vegas, which carries a tidy $250,000 for the winner. “I see Mickey Mouse, Highjack, Fairy Tattoo and Tested as the bulls to beat to win the Classic,” Lambert said before the World Finals. Lambert knows bulls, but does he know anything about the pocketknife pact between Reid and Page? “I do,” Lambert said. “Because of H.D.’s messed-up thumb, he couldn’t open it very well, so he swapped it for one I had with a little knob on it that was easier to open. But I swapped it out for a different knife in April in Kansas City.”
Coming Full Circle Shepherd Hills Tested has four owners: Tom Luthy, Dan Duckwall, D&H Cattle, and Shepherd Hills Cutlery- owned by none other than Rod Reid. Duckwall is president of a commercial appraisal-and-auction company in Tulsa, Okla. Tom Luthy is Rod Reid’s nephew, who as a young boy loved watching PBR events on TV at his grandparents’ house in Lebanon, Mo. “Three years ago, Tom and his wife, Siu, invited me and my wife, Becky to a PBR event in St. Louis,” Reid said. “We knew very little about bull riding. We only agreed to go because we wanted to spend some time with our niece and nephew. “Long story short, we were hooked. The more we learned, the more we appreciated this fantastic sport. We started looking at the advertising effect of having the Shepherd Hills name on a bull. It really is like NASCAR, getting a brand affiliation with an athlete.” Sod Buster and Trapper are types of case knives, which are sold via Shepherd Hills Cutlery, headquartered in Lebanon and bolstered with three additional outlet stores. Case knives are treated twice — the first time to harden the blade, the second to add flexibility. Since it’s impossible to determine whether the blade has been treated once or twice, an X is marked on the knife to indicate it has been tested once, while XX denotes twice. One of the company’s slogans is “Case Tested XX” — hence Shepherd Hills Tested. “Our association with H.D. and the PBR has allowed our customers to identify with us, and it gives us a lot of credibility,” Reid said. “And to be honest, it’s just fun for our customers to have someone to root for. “We love that bull, Tested. The technique he has is just so good. We hit six to eight PBR events a year, and of course the Finals. We’ll be wringing our hands, not because of the money, but because we want our bulls to do well. There are a lot of really strong bulls out there. Will Shepherd Hills Tested pass the test?” The original knife, which passed from Reid to Page to Lambert, has come full circle: “I got to thinking about the fact that that pocketknife started this whole thing,” Reid said. “At the Kansas City PBR event this year, I hit Cody up. I traded him a pearl-handled Case knife for the knife I originally gave to H.D. “I’ve got a glass coffee table that has a special drawer in it, and that’s where that knife will stay. It’s not just another pocketknife. We are so grateful to Tom and Siu for inviting us to St. Louis. Our lives have been
enriched because of our involvement with the PBR. At Springfield this year, we had 50 of our friends go to the event, who would never have gone to see bull riding unless St. Louis had happened.”
Tested by Tested J.B. Mauney is the only rider to get a second shot at Shepherd Hills Tested. His first try, Feb. 27 in Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Mauney made it a little past halfway to eight before getting dusty. The confetti-ride in Springfield came seven months later. “That’s a bull that takes you that first time to know how he feels,” said Austin Meier, who Tested sent flying in 5.18 seconds Feb. 10 in Oklahoma City. “That bull’s really got some different timing. That first round, he’s definitely underneath himself trying to pull you over the front. The next, he’s moving forward and trying to get you on the end of your arm. He pulls you over and then he stretches you out. It’s tough to battle the in-between. “He gets a lot of guys on that second move. I like him for the fact that he’s not a dirty bull. He just flat out bucks. I’d sure like to get on him again because I think he’s my style of bull. J.B. needed a second time to figure him out. It’s one thing to tell a rider what a bull does, but there’s no substitute for actually feeling him underneath you. “You can get yourself in bad situations if you plan too far ahead. Those bulls are athletes and they’re smart. If you try to set a trap for them, they can change things up, too. However, knowing what I know now, next time on Tested I’ll be a little bit quicker, a little bit wiser, and I’ll make the adjustments.” Shepherd Hills Cutlery sponsors Meier, but that obviously didn’t carry any favor with Tested. “He didn’t care one bit about that, which hurt my feelings,” Meier said with a smile. Unlike Meier, Guilherme Marchi, 2008 PBR World Champion, doesn’t care about making adjustments because he has no interest in being tested by Tested again. “No, no, no,” Marchi said. “That bull is very strong. He is one of the best bulls in the PBR. If you ride him, you’ll score many points, say 92 to 95. “But that bull doesn’t fit me very good. I (don’t) like him because he is so strong and away from my hand. If I get him again, I’ll move my rope to the middle a little bit more. He’s very fast. He’s a good bull for someone else.”
Following in His Father’s Footsteps At the tender age of 4, Shepherd Hills Tested has arguably already outperformed Smooth Move, his father. “At the Finals last year as a 3-year old, Tested missed the top 20 by one spot,” Page said. This year, Tested was the 2012 ABBI Year End Champion headed into Las Vegas with over $77,000 in season winnings. After two Classic rounds, Tested was able to do what had eluded him the year before- win $250,000 and lay claim to the most prestigious bucking bull title in the ABBI. T
he Bucking Bull Industry descended upon Las Vegas for the PBR World Finals in full force and the females of this industry had a strong presence. As we continue to recognize the women joining the ranks of successful breeders, we turn the spotlight on an 18-year-old Texas native Paige Stout, winner of the Junior Futurity in Sin City. Even as a little girl, Paige was an overachiever. She started playing soccer when she was just 4 years old and went on to become a varsity soccer player throughout high school. Stout graduated high school at 17 with a 4.2 GPA and started college within the same year. Attending college in Weatherford Texas, Stout shared, “I decided I wanted to pursue a degree in nursing so, when I graduate, I can work three 12 hour shifts during the week and still haul bulls on the weekends!” Stout was raised in a family centered around Rodeo. Her father, Wesley Stout, was a longtime bull fighter at high school rodeos and wife Laura was at every event along with their little daughter Paige. But after starting a family with Laura,, and suffering an injury, Wesley decided it was time to step out of the arena so he turned his attention to raising and training bucking bulls. Paige quickly became interested as well. At a time when most girls her age were interested in horses, Stout asked her parents to help her buy her first bucking bull. At just 10, she convinced her parents that although she loved rodeo, her passion was definitely for the bulls. So, Stout and her Dad started looking around until they found a yearling they both liked. Although Dad was always close by to lend a hand or give advice when she started working with the new yearling, Stout was determined to take on the majority of the responsibilities herself. But she did admit, “My

Dad helped and I learned a lot from him.” They hauled him to all the Youth Futurities in 2008 but ended up selling him at the end of the year, which Stout regrets to this day. “All or Nothin, out of a son of Rodeo, ended up being on the PBR Tour,” said Stout, “sure wish I would have kept him, but I’m happy he got to go on tour!” Stout Bucking Bulls continues to be a family business with Paige and her Dad working as a close team. According to Stout, “We do everything together, this is a really good bonding experience for my Dad and I.” She added with a laugh, “I’m the son he never had.” Mom had always known Paige would be involved in the rodeo industry at some level, but no one expected her to become a stock contractor. In fact, Mom was very skeptical when her daughter first started focusing on the bulls but, knowing her daughter’s stubborn nature, she soon realized this was a true passion and finally accepted the fact that Paige was never going to be a ballerina or a barrel racer. Paige admits it was a tough road to becoming a female stock contractor, she remembered, “there weren’t very many girls when I started out eight years ago when I was only 10.” “It was different, guys weren’t used to seeing girls behind the chute but that just made me want to work harder, because I was a girl,” laughed Stout. “I wanted to prove a point, I wanted to prove that girls could do it too!” Propelled by that determination, Stout trains and exercises her bulls every day. Still, it wasn’t easy to be one of the very few females taking her bulls to events. Stout explained, “Sometimes you have to knock those boys out of the way. It can be intimidating at first but you have to make up your mind that you are here to stay and they probably are going to have to get out of the way.” As Stout has continued to pursue her dream of becoming a Stock Contractor, the road has become a bit easier and she’s gained more acceptance from her male counterparts. Stout shared, “I’ve gotten more sponsors, and I’m going to all the different futurities, but this year has been the high mark! This year people accept me more. Girls are becoming more involved in this sport and I definitely feel like I fit in more now.” Men and women usually tend to do things very differently and every stock contractor has their particular way of training their animal athletes, Stout is no different. She shared that as a young girl she probably takes a different approach to training her bulls, consistently remaining very calm and gentle. Stout admitted, “I’ve seen a lot of guys get frustrated with their bulls and sometimes use hotshots (which are not allowed at any ABBI competition) but honestly, I don’t even own a hotshot!” Stout continued, “I like to work with them calmly and make sure they know I’m not going to do anything to hurt them or frustrate them.” Stout believes the key factors to training a solid bucker are staying calm and in charge and that is the winning combination. When asked if she had a role model Stout paused a moment then

with. She’s also looking forward to a large number of bucking calves that will hit the ground this year. In addition, Stout just closed a deal on a few 4-year-old bulls: Big Catch, Fun Size, and Frontier Fugitive who, last year, was ridden for 88.75 points by recently retired PBR Superstar Chris Shivers. Stout confessed, “I’m looking to get on the PBR Tour, that’s definitely my goal.” Even as a young child, Stout has always been very driven and when she makes up her mind about something, she’s pursues it 100%. Her advice to future female stock contractors? “Never give up and never forget where you came from.” Stout added, “It’s very hard to start out at the bottom. No one knows you, no one knows your bulls but when you get your own bucking stock and you start hauling your own bulls it’s definitely worth it.” Success at an early age has not affected Stout. She’s very humble, centered, down to earth and eager to help other teenage girls looking to break into this industry. “I want to be a role model for other girls and I want them to know they can always come to me for advice.” If you want to find this remarkable young woman between college classes, training and hauling her bulls and shopping for new belts to go with her Championship Buckles, you can usually find her at her home arena in Weatherford, TX, where she and her family host a Buckle Series along with other bull riding events.

answered with a smile, “Bob Tallman, definitely. He’s helped in so many ways to get me where I am today.” She then continued, “He’s always been there to help teach and show me the inside of the bucking bull industry. He knows so many different things and he’s not only helped me get sponsors, he’s one of them! He’s even given me a couple of straws to help further develop my program and he’s always one of the first people I call when I win a futurity.” People are now talking about Paige Stout since she won the Junior Futurity in Las Vegas and Stout understandably is thrilled! Stout established a partnership deal with 4G Ranch and they agreed to haul Rim Shot out to Las Vegas. Stout recalls, “Honestly, I was not expecting to win the Futurity at all. The 2-year-old who bucked right before Rim Shot was outstanding and I truly didn’t think I stood a chance!” But Stout could not have been more proud while watching her bull perform. Said Stout, “He’s always had a hard time keeping his feet and he always stumbles. Vegas was the first time, he just blew up in the air and came back down on all four feet – I was so proud of him especially knowing that these young bulls can be so unpredictable!” So what does an 18 -year-old girl do to celebrate her big win in Sin City? “Well,” giggled Stout, “my little thing is… after I get a new buckle I have to go out and buy a new belt so of course I went to do that and then we went to the PBR that night! Honestly, I really didn’t have to celebrate, I could have done absolutely nothing and I still would have been the happiest person.” The future is definitely bright for this determined young gal from Texas. People are taking notice and she’s got some big sponsors backing her up, including Tallman, MGM Grand, Big Tex Trailers, Tin Haul, Roper Apparel and Resistol Hats! minded when it comes to women being a part of their mostly male dominated world. It doesn’t take long to know if someone knows their stuff or is just there for the wrong reasons. Once that’s established, I think the industry has no problem embracing women.” Bland may have faced some challenges with acceptance early on, but today has come into her own as a very credible source of D & H details. In fact, if you called Dillon with intricate questions tomorrow he’ll likely pass you on to Johna. “It makes me proud. Like any business if you know what you are talking about then your knowledge will prevail over any insecurity anyone has about you.” So now that Bland’s made it through the heavy lifting of being accepted, the day to day dealings of D & H Cattle Co. stream through her fingers in numerous ways. From bleeding and registering offspring, entering events, producing sale catalogs and events to running the merchandise branch of their business. “The registration process as everyone knows is time consuming. We generally have cows in about 11 different pastures and place about 40 different bulls out during breeding season. Registering and DNA verifying all of our offspring is something we feel is very important. By doing this we are able to track producers and non-producers.” The registration process is just the beginning of what Bland has really become interested in. Pedigree research and family lines are now one of the things she finds most rewarding. “Pedigree research is one of the most fascinating things I do when I’m putting our sales together. Tracing back heritage and getting to those places in family lines where you have one of those “Ah ha” moments is very fulfilling to me. When you realize certain genetic relations and family tree connections it really draws you in.” The factor that herd females play in the industry is no secret and with that Bland has really poured herself (fittingly) into the female end of the business. “I have a real passion for the females. I guess because I deal with Johna, Dillon, Vickie & Shawna
them more than anything else. I feel like they play such a role in any program, but ours especially. It’s fun to try and create the next “great one”, and in my opinion the females are as big a part in that as anything else.” Pedigree research is just a Johna with husband Toby Bland at ‘12 PBR Finals small fragment of Bland’s tasks. Over time the program’s numbers have steadily multiplied and with that the workload. What once used to be one all inclusive annual sale has turned into three different sales. Of course the sales are just one twist in what the Page family does. With each sale come several other components and activities. “We do a Spring Bull Sale, our Annual Bred to Buck Female & Yearling Sale and also our Fall Female Sale. My role is to put all the catalog information, pictures, videos, and registration and pedigree information together for our sale catalogs. It’s gotten harder and harder to choose the sale prospects. We have picked through our females and just have the top ones left here at the ranch. Each of our sales takes months of preparation. The photos alone usually take me a couple weeks to compile, mostly because I am quite particular about them. I also put together our open bull ridings, futurities, derbies and classic events that we have during these sales. It takes a lot of organizing and planning to make these events and sales come together.” Add the complications and required time of prepping and entering bulls in other competitive events and the real picture of D & H’s workload zooms into focus. “We enter roughly 40-50 events per year with our Classic and Futurity bulls. So when it comes to competition my role is to keep track of what events are on our schedule, enter those events and do billing and payouts to partners of those bulls competing.” Typical to Bland’s modest style she claims her role in competition is the easier part. She also talks about the American Heritage program and why it holds a special place in D & H’s decision making when it comes to competition. “I would say the hardest part of competition falls on H.D. though since he has the task of deciding which bulls are ready to compete. One of the major events we like to talk about is the American Heritage Futurity because it was an event Dillon & H.D. campaigned for from the beginning. When we originally started this futurity it was just our Page Futurity but we wanted more. We wanted it to be bigger and better, and to have more money available. So that’s when Dillon, H.D. and the ABBI got together to form the American Heritage Futurity. process and picking these prospects has a great deal of meaning to us.” Although Johna is the largest female part of the cattle end of D & H Cattle, she is not the only girl bringing something to the table. In fact her willingness to jump into the family enterprise in 2005 has opened the door for the family’s other females. “My step mom Vickie and my twin sister Shawna help out in the other areas of the business. Vickie works in the office and tackles the accounting which is a huge task in itself. Then Shawna assists me. When it comes to the merchandise she’s there to help me set up, tear down and sell. Our sales and events are really so much work. From sponsors to logistics Shawna really helps me keep things rolling smoothly stepping in wherever I need her to.” Like the way the landscape of the industry has evolved and changed since Johna became involved, so has the way the family tends to daily tasks. “The last few years we have all become a little more technologically inclined. With all of us having smart phones we are using them to our advantage. We’ve added more social media, internet merchandise sales, video sales for our bulls and we’ve been very surprised at the internet buyers at all of our sales throughout the year.” Like most women, Page finds it a challenge to juggle all the components in her life now, but meets them head-on like everything else she does. She’s also quick to admit that family support is elementary in bringing everything together. “At times it can be hard to keep up with house duties, kid’s practices and ball games, and then a job that requires so much time and effort. Luckily my computer tags along well and my cell phone takes most of our office calls so I travel and keep up pretty well.” On top of all the things Bland seems to effortlessly compartmentalize and shuffle about, fitness plays a big role in her stamina and ability to handle so much. “We have always been a pretty fit family. Even growing up Dad was always fit just from working so hard on the farm and my mom had a friend she worked out with every morning at 5 am. So we always went with them. Working out keeps me sane and keeps my mind clear. This job is trying at times and with the demands of it and my home duties it provides a great stress relief for me. It also gives Shawna and I some time to ourselves which is nice.” Johna has repeated the pattern of working out together in her own family and uses staying fit to help her keep up with a rigorous pace that both her family and D & H Cattle Co. demand. “Toby and I make working out about family. We work out together— Toby, the boys and I. It’s rewarding to challenge myself to do better and stay fit. I love to run and workout. I never have to worry about cutting into anyone else’s time if I get up and go at 5 am. We started seriously running a few years back when a group of the ladies from our gym wanted to run the Oklahoma City Memorial Half Marathon. We just kept it all up from there.” The lessons learned in our lives often take on a new shape in the present, but stem from our past. Bland is proof of this and talks about things her parents instilled in her that she still utilizes and that have played a role in her current success. “Before bulls there was farming. Dad and I spent a lot of time

together during that time so it made us close. Over the years he taught me a lot of integrity more than anything else. Dad and H.D. both have so much integrity and honesty. It makes me very proud to be a part of D&H Cattle Co. Our bulls and females are a direct example of the hard work they have put into our business for so many years. I hope I can continue to help our business expand and get better through the life lessons dad and mom have instilled in us.” When it comes to the force females are playing in our industry and what Bland has brought to the overall picture of D & H, her own mother is a key influence. “I have a lot of pride in my heart for my mom. Most importantly, Mom taught us about being respectful and friendly to others. My mother never meets a stranger and she’s been like that our whole lives. She will always go above and beyond to help in any way possible. I hope that is said about me as well. I try to make sure I am friendly to everyone. A smile can make all the difference to someone, even in this tough old business.” The cohesiveness Bland has used in life and business clearly swings through her own family. Her relationship with Toby is supportive and she is quick to give him credit for much of the success her family experiences under such immense demand. “I have an amazing support system at home too. My husband, Toby, is an amazing man. He helps with the kids, housework, homework, oil changes—you name it he can usually get it done for me. Toby and I have been together for 20 years and will be celebrating our 17th wedding anniversary this December, so I can say he’s been through as many changes with our family as I have. Through the thick and thin he’s the rock that holds our family together.” Interestingly enough although Bland gives this glory of” holding things together” to her husband Toby, her father, mother, brother and sister echo her claims in reverse. “Having Johna step and take on a lot of tasks dad and I couldn’t has really helped us,” said H.D. “There are so many little things that she does every day that make what we do so much easier. I’m sure we don’t even know half of what she does for us, but we just know things are a lot easier and run a lot smoother with her around. What she does brings everything together.” Johna, Shawna and H.D.’s mother Letha also dotes on Johna for being the family’s rock. “As a mother I am very proud of all my kids and I thank God everyday for the blessing of each of them, but Johna is definitely our rock. She keeps us all on top of what and where we need to be and who needs to do what. If you have the pleasure to meet Johna you will find out that she’s just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. I hope everyone is lucky enough to have a Johna in their life.”

Marlene Henry’s Mickey Mouse: An Account of Divine Connections

Divine connections—there’s no better way to explain the story of Marlene Henry and her 2012 Reserve World Champion Classic bull Mickey Mouse. In a tale full of small yet absolute synchronistic events, the universe made sure this Dayton, Texas country girl and this bold, bucker collided at the right time and in the right place.

o get the full scope of what had to happen in order for Mickey Mouse to even exist, you have to travel back a few bovine generations to 2003 when Henry was given an impossible task and came face to face with her subsequent destiny. Henry was a master at saving and fostering orphaned calves at the veterinary clinic she’s worked at for 25 years. Herrington Cattle Company’s Robbie Herrington brought in a calf in dire straits. The calf on death’s door was a son of Herrington’s World Champion bucker Dillinger and his dam had developed a severe mastitis case which kept the newborn from feeding. Marlene was skeptical that even her expertise could save this newborn. She spent more than a week not knowing if the calf would live or die, diligently feeding it like an infant every 5 hours and administering fluids thru an IV. “I still don’t know how, but somehow he lived,” said an amazed Henry. Besides this calf Henry had another calf from Herrington that was thriving from her care—a son of Blueberry Wine. Herrington had made it clear he expected this calf back, but not much was said about the less than attractive Dillinger son with the tough outer appearance who to everyone’s surprise was even drawing breath. “You would never believe it from what he looked like, but one day he started jumping out. All of a sudden I couldn’t keep him in. I’d come home and he’d be in with my crossbred cows. So I’d go get him out, but the next day he’d be in with them again. So when Robbie called about the Blueberry Wine calf I told him this other calf was ready and needing to go home too.” Fast forward nine months. “When my crossbred cows started calving I started seeing some black baldies hitting the ground.” Naturally Henry began to scratch her head since her Hereford Brahman cross cows were only red and white in their color pattern. “I would have never dreamed that little, yearling; pot-bellied calf could have ever bred those cows, but he dang sure did and there were four heifers out there he’d sired.” So just like that Henry was in the bucking bull business whether she planned on it or not. So what’s a girl to do? Well breed those Dillinger grand-daughters of course. And breed them she did. “I had a good friend, Tracy LaBuff who owned a bucking bull that

had been pretty good so I called him up and arranged to breed these heifers to him.” The bull ended up being Mighty Mouse, a bucker that had been to the PBR Finals in 2006 and boasted a probullstats average of 21.48. By the next spring Henry had two bulls and one heifer on the ground out of those divine Dillinger grand-daughters. And as fate would have it, one of them was destined to become a champion. His name would be Mickey Mouse. Let’s face it. At this point it’s pretty clear that mountains were moved for Mickey Mouse to end up on this earth and in the care of Henry. Still there are more mountains that must be moved in this story. “We fooled with him around here while he was young, but nothing surprising happened. We’d buck him and he didn’t really show too much. He’d buck but really never turn back so I just turned him out. Then when he was about 3 I called Doug Butcher (original breeder of PBR superstar Camo) to see if I could take him to get an out during an event he was putting on. He let me bring him and oh my word—did he ever turn back and buck.” Although people had been telling Henry they thought the bull could buck, she was skeptical in her own mind whether the bull really had anything. She had been around cattle her whole life, but when the bull had the out that Butcher provided she claims, “her jaw fell open” with surprise. “Afterward Doug was all excited talking to me about him. I couldn’t get him picked up til Saturday night and they called and told me not to pick him up because he was back in the draw. He was barely three and I was like, ‘oh no, I’m not doing that to him’. Anyhow, they talked me into it and as it turned out he was about twice as rank as he was the first night.”’ Thus a pattern was set for the bucker. The more you’d buck him, the better he was. So with long time friend and flank man (80-year-old Johnny Ludtke from Baytown, Texas), she and Mickey were on a fast track to bucking bull stardom. Ludtke who had owned and operated his own rodeo company until he had a series of strokes, had a lifelong dream
of going and flanking a bull at the finals. This is just one more divine twist in this story since Ludtke had quit doing what he loved after much medical urging. However, Ludtke couldn’t bear it. So as luck would have it, fate wove him into this already incredible story. During May, June, July and August of the bull’s three year old season the trio traveled to other associations for outs approximately once a month. There the big, black bovine created a quick reputation as being the possible real deal, winning first or second at every event he showed up at. He ultimately won himself his first season title—high money bull. Although the bull qualified for the association’s finals in October, at his last event in September Mickey Mouse suffered a dangerous back injury. “He came out and really bucked. When he turned back the rider was coming off in front of him and he turned back the other way to keep from stepping on him. When he did he fell and when he went to get up he couldn’t. He was just dragging his back end. It was horrible and needless to say I was just hysterical. He finally gathered himself up and did go ahead and walk out of the arena but it did do damage. We didn’t know if it was a pinched nerve or what but I immediately put him in my trailer and took him back here to the vet clinic in town. Then Monday morning I took him to Elgin to Dr. Warner.” After Mickey was evaluated by Dr. Warner, it was decided they would try the only real procedure there is for bucking bulls with back injuries. “He said he couldn’t make me any promises, but he would go ahead and treat him with an epidural. I knew that was all I could ask for. Two weeks later, he called me to come get him saying he was doing fantastic.” Upon pickup Warner made a request of Henry unsure if she would actually adhere to his advice. “He asked me to take him home and keep him in a small area and lay him off for six months.” Henry converted a round pen she had at home into an acceptable place to keep Mickey for the allotted six months. Although she wondered if he’d actually ever be able to buck her hopes where that she’d at least be able to breed to him. Henry put in the legwork and it ultimately paid off. months Henry took the bull back to Warner and got his blessing. “I was sick to my stomach the first time I bucked him. I wasn’t sure I could even watch, but he did great. That’s one thing I would say to any other owner that finds them self in the position of having a bull with a back injury. Follow the advice and stay off of them for that six months. I have to give so much credit to Dr. Warner. Laying him off very well could have saved his career and ultimately his life. ” The bull recovered wonderfully and completely, came back during his 4-year-old season stronger than ever, and made the transition to ABBI competition without a hitch after some coaxing from contractors. “I knew he was good, but I just didn’t know if he was good enough to compete with the “big boys”, even though everybody kept telling me I needed to take him to some ABBI Classics. We went to Pueblo and he did real well. Each event he got closer to the top of the standings. He won Tulsa and we were looking at the ABBI Finals. So many people were rooting for us. I think it was the story they loved—Mickey’s, mine and Johnny’s.” Like many other bull lovers, Henry claims her bull has a special personality. “The funniest thing about Mickey is when we are on our way home. Whether we’re coming from the north or south, as soon as we get about 3 miles away he starts circling in the trailer. Honestly, he does it each
and every time. He knows we’re home.” Henry has owned her share of animal athletes and boasts on Mickey’s will to compete. “I have had a lot of racehorses and there is nothing more satisfying than having an animal so talented that loves their job. Mickey definitely loves his job. In fact the night before we left for Vegas we took him and bucked him in Liberty about six miles from home. A lot of people thought I was crazy for taking a chance like that. But the more we buck him the better he is.” Henry has three coming 2-year-olds out of Mickey’s sisters and one bull calf and some heifers sired by Mickey. His weanling bull looks a lot like Dillinger according to Henry as she continues to ride the rush of bull ownership. “As far as Mickey goes, I’d like to find somebody who will partner with me on Mickey if Cody (Lambert) will take him. I’ve thought about taking some of the money Mickey won and buying a good 2-year-old. I just don’t know, but I certainly don’t want this to be the end. I’ve met some of the nicest people in the world. I’ve never done anything where people are so supportive. I’ve just been having the best time. The whole time I was competing in the ABBI everyone was so accommodating and nice. It was definitely one of the best experiences I’ve had in my life. It’s been an awesome ride.
