GRADUATE AND ADULT EDUCATION VISITORS This agenda is primarily for prospective students interested in accelerated bachelor’s degree completion, master’s and doctorate degrees. Sessions will indicate the primary audience of AE (Adult Education) and/ or GR (Graduate and Doctorate). You are welcome to participate in any of the traditional undergraduate events as well. Students coming directly from high school who are interested in a combined undergraduate and graduate degree program would benefit from following the agenda for ALL VISITORS. PL 10:30am:

This session will introduce you to the components that make up a financial aid award including scholarships, grants, work study, student loans and payment plans. Alvernia is committed to making this process manageable by providing assistance along the way including guaranteeing a scholarship to every admitted student regardless of family income, assistance with completing The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (www://FAFSA.gov) and applying for outside scholarships. Hear directly from our Athletic Director his philosophy and expectations of our student-athletes. Find out why our student-athletes are successful both in the classroom and on the field. Do you want to be involved in one of our student organizations-there are over 50 to choose from. How about our theater, dance or choir? Maybe you want to have the opportunity to do Community Service in the region. You might want to join our Campus Activities Board that plans trips to New York City, brings live entertainers to campus, coordinates stress reduction events like goat yoga and host game shows and novelty events throughout the year. 1:00 p.m. - 1:45 p.m. Incubating Your Great Ideas! • Bernardine Hall 008 Alvernia is an institution with an entrepreneurial spirit. We like a good idea. Many of these good ideas are created and nurtured in The O’Pake Institute. Thinking about being an entrepreneur? Any student at Alvernia can start and grow their business with the O’Pake Institute! Students can also apply to the Institute’s O’Pake Fellows Program. O’Pake Fellows work hands-on with local businesses, non-profits, educational institutions, community agencies and local leaders to assist in projects to grow or expand their brand. O’Pake Fellows have designed advertising campaigns, marketed new products, worked with community leaders to create safer neighborhoods, developed websites, commercialized intellectual property, and provided resources for local schools and churches. There is nothing like it in the region. O’Pake Fellows are gaining experiences like no other in our community AND these are paid leadership roles on campus. Intrigued? Come find out how to apply to be an O’Pake Fellow or start your own business as early as your freshman year.

At Alvernia every new student is assigned an Academic Coach we call “Navigators”. This person is dedicated to your academic success. They meet with students and help them find resources to support them in the classroom and share resources as you move into your undergraduate experience. Additionally, The Academic Success Center provides opportunities for students to find academic support through tutors, The Writing Center, ESL support services and learning accommodations. All of these are free to students and you can access them throughout your academic career at Alvernia. This session will help you understand that Alvernia has all the resources to be a great student! These are the academic leaders of our community who have risen to these leadership roles because they care deeply about our liberal arts tradition and the many opportunities you can pursue at Alvernia. The Career Development Center is here to guide you as you begin planning for your future. Their staff can help you research and decide on a major and guide you as you think about adding minors, help you begin building your resume and promoting yourself through our Merit system. The staff is available to help you find an internship or job shadow an Alumni. All this can begin in your first year on campus. As you progress through college Career Services can help you to job search or find a graduate or professional school that meets your career or educational goals. Discover our Alternative Spring Break program which offers opportunities to travel across the country and around the world to be of service to others.
