Keynote Speaker: Dr. Debra Sells Dr. Sells completed her Bachelors of Arts in Sociology and Communications at Hope College, located in Holland, Michigan. She completed her Master of Social Work with a concentration in Interpersonal Practice and Clinical Casework at the University of Michigan in 1983. She completed her Doctorate of Education at Arizona State University in 1996. Dr. Sells has served in the division of Student Affairs at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa; California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo; and at Arizona State University in Tempe. Dr. Sells joined the administration at Middle Tennessee State University in January of 1996, and was named Vice President of Student Affairs and Vice Provost for Enrollment in 2009.

The Membership Investment examines the importance of creating relevant programming for the over-programmed chapter. This presentation explores programming ideas, strategies for prioritizing, planning and implementing programming, and utilizing technology and social media to teach. Executing the prefect party while implementing best practices is often easier than officers think! Come to this session to learn more about sober monitors, designated drivers, BYOB, and third-party vendors. Participants will leave with tangible resources and a new outlook on risk management.

We will investigate state law, the definition of hazing, why it happens, what resources are available, bystander intervention, and action steps to stop hazing. Substitute events will be suggested to replace hazing events that might be occurring in your chapter.

Often times, there are misconceptions about how to work with fraternities and sororities from councils that are different from your own. This session will provide attendees with the opportunity to gain more knowledge about effective ways to enhance cross council collaboration and how collaborations with these groups can benefit the interfraternal community.

This presentation covers financial management basics, including getting started, budgets, record keeping, handling money, balancing accounts, and collections. The presentation will close with a group discussion to identify answers to your tough financial questions.

How do they act? What kind of student are they? How do they represent your letters? You chapter standards should answer these questions and give your chapter members a guide to the expectations of membership. But your members can’t follow your chapter standards if they don’t know what they are. And they definitely will not be willing to follow the standards if your officers are not leading by example. This session will teach you how to identify your standards, educate your chapter members on the standards and how to get people to buy in.
