Rotary Club of Shrewsbury GUEST SPEAKERS – Geoff Proffitt & Maelor Owen

Geof Proffitt (left) & Maelor Owen with President Pat At our Rotary Club of Shrewsbury luncheon meeting on 22 March 2017 our speakers were Geoff profit and Maelor Owen representing Crucial Crew. The Shrewsbury and Oswestry branch of Crucial Crew is one of the few branches of the organisation which are registered Charities. The group was established in 1994 and provide a resource for 11 and 12 year olds to be given an awareness of a number of different safety measures. Courses are run for two weeks in June each year at the Nesscliffe Army Camp,, provided free of charge by the MoD. Since it began the group has served over 40 schools each year and 25,000 children have attended. Each child receives guidance on 13 different aspects. These aspects have changed over the years to try and keep up with current trends and now include Cyber Bullying and Health and Safety and Awareness is provided for many dangers such as electricity, the sea, water and railways Children are provided with goody bags which include tee shirts and other gifts. This year the tee shirts will have the Rotary logo as the Crucial Crew team reflect their grateful thanks to the many Rotary clubs in the area who support their initiatives.
