SINGAPORE WHO ARE WE? 01 THE LITTLE RED DOT Singapore is a city, a capital and a state all at once, making it one of only three City States in the world. Singapore is often referred to as the “Little Red Dot�. This is because we are only 700 square kilometers big. In comparison with our neighbors, Malaysia is 331000 square kilometers and Thailand is 513000 square kilometers, so we are indeed just a small little red dot!

02 MULTI-RACIALISM Singapore is a multicultural nation. we have 4 main races: Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasian, with Chinese being the majority. That gives rise to our bilingualism education, which requires all students to have a good command of both English and their respective mother tongue: To speak a common language and to remember where our root lies.
03 SINGAPORE ORIGINS Singapore was once colonized by the British, had a merger with Malaysia in 1963, but eventually became an independent republic on the 9th of August, 1965. The name Singapore actually came about from Singapura, which means "Lion City" in Sanskrit.
04 INTERESTING FACTS Singapore actually has 60 islands surrounding it! All Singaporean males are required to serve 2 years of mandatory National Service in the Singapore Armed Forces! Chewing gum is BANNED in Singapore, since 1992! The famous Merlion depicts a mythical creature with a lion's head and the body of a fish. It is widely used as a mascot and national personification of Singapore.
