Discover Lower Silesia @ Wroclaw, Poland Discover Lower Silesia was a 6weeks long, Education based project in which I, and the other Exchange Participants (EPs), were required to conduct cultural lessons in the small villages around Wrocław, Lower Silesia. Each week, I stayed with a different host family and had the opportunity to truly integrate with the locals when I witnessed a Polish presidential election, tasted unique Polish cuisine and learnt the challenging native language. During the weekdays, I conducted cultural classes 3 to 4 hours a day in primary, secondary and high schools. The interactions with the teachers and students gave me a deeper insight on how people from various cultural background collaborate. It was the first time I became a minority in the society, yet surprisingly, I was wellliked among the locals, as they were intrigued to know more about me and my Asian roots. It was my honour to be granted personal conversations with mayors from Oleśnica and Strzelin, and my team was also featured on the local news. I felt highly valued and could see how I impacted the local stakeholders of Lower Silesia! Today, I am more culturally aware and will no longer take my Asian identity for granted. It may be hard to believe, but there are actually many people in this world who have yet to meet an Asian! This empowers me to step up and interact with a variety of foreigners, share my culture and personal stories to better understand the way we live.

Summer for Youth @ Budapest, Hungary My first summer after a year in NUS was spent in Budapest, Hungary. As a muddleheaded 20 year old who had no idea how to use the Google Maps or even cook a decent meal, I was skeptical about being able to survive for even a week. Little do I know that this was the trip that had made me discover and know more about myself. My project was called “Summer for Youth”, a youth camp organised for the Hungarian teens aged 12 to 23. I am proud to say that the camp was a successful one. We danced, we shared, we played, and we learned together. Other than being totally immersed in the Hungarian way of life, I was blessed to meet 13 other youth facilitators from different countries. The friendship we had forged is so precious I will not exchange it for anything.

Dream Beyond Language @ Taichung, Taiwan

At the start, all I had wanted from this program was to travel and explore the world outside. My travels in Taiwan opened my eyes to the wonderful nature of the world, where I could feel the warmth of the locals, their passion and their compassion for others. Be it through caring for strangers to the closeness of the closeknitted community of the mountainside village I was living in, their compassion was like an entity of living energy, it made me feel so liberated! Furthermore, I was able to make a lasting impact to the community by inspiring the locals, villagers and students to learn English and exposing them to the global culture. It was the first time that I felt truly alive and to know what I was doing left an indelible mark on their lives was more than I could ask for. Throughout this journey, I better understood my values and what I was passionate about and the support that I received from the AIESEC community made this journey even sweeter. "We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us."
