IDEA EXCHANGE It is truly amazing to see how God’s timing works. — G raciela Elvira Anobile (Dupertuis), Loma Linda, California, United States

Letters Family Legacy

What an wonderful delight to see a picture of my great-great-grandparents, Julio (Jules) Dupertuis and Ida Arn de Dupertuis, for the first time in my life in Silvia Scholtus Roscher’s article “God’s Bountiful Care” (October 2013)! In an interesting set of events, the October 19, 2013, vespers at Loma Linda University church was about the history of J. N. Andrews as the first official Adventist missionary. NielsErik Andreasen spoke, as well as Andrews’ great-granddaughter, Jeanne Andrews-Willumson. It was wonderful to share my family’s story with this amazing woman, and to thank her for her family’s missionary service as it changed my family’s history forever. I

showed her a letter Julio had written in 1889 to the Advent Review and Sabbath Herald (now Adventist Review) in which he thanked the General Conference for sending a letter of encouragement, described conditions as a Sabbathkeeper, and asked for workers to be sent to their area. More than 100 years later, my uncle taught at Andrews University; my brother is president of the Arizona Conference; my two nephews are studying to become pastors; my niece is studying at Andrews University; and I served as a student missionary in Haiti while working on a nursing degree. I had wondered how Julio and Ida received the Signs of the Times in the first place, a question this article answered. It is truly amazing to see how God’s timing works. I was greatly dismayed after learning that the accused minister Antonio

Monteiro is still imprisoned (“Newly Released Footage Shows Family of Imprisoned Pastor in Togo,” June 2013). To help participate in the goal of liberating Monteiro, not only will I sign the petition (he is part of our church family)—I will pray for his release. I invite all the members of my church to pray for him too. Charles Abdonel Gonaives, Haiti The Beginning of a Movement

Thank you for publishing the special commemorative edition “The Beginning of a Movement” (May 2013). My family and I are especially pleased to read about the early history of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and about the first vision Ellen White had about the beginning of the church. It is nice to know all the details of the vision. Angie Anaya Barrancabermeja, Colombia

PRAISE

My wife and I are concerned about our daughter. Please pray that God helps her find a young Christian who is a good person to plan a future together and form a family that honors God. Thank you very much! Victor, Argentina
