Message from our Rabbi This evening we are honoring two couples who are admired by the entire community. Both Judy and Bob Friedman and Sandra and Uri Weinstein represent the best we have to offer as a community. Chazzan Bob, as he is lovingly known, has served the shul in many and diverse ways. We have been treated to the rich strains of his beautiful and cultured voice when he serves as chazzan on Shabbat, Yomim Tovim, and Yomim Noraim. As a member of the Sunday Minchas Chinuch Shiur, Bob peppers the class with profound insights and deep analysis. Bob was very involved in the process of building the new shul serving with distinction on the “mechitza” committee. We can thank Bob for his efforts in securing the creative and beautifully functioning mechitza in the shul. Judy has served the shul community for as many years as she has lived here. Judy served on so many activities and projects in so many different capacities that it is impossible to list them all on one page. She is currently the secretary of the shul’s executive board. Judy also chairs the “shiva” committee, one of the most gracious and efficient groups in our shul community. What best characterizes the work and approach of the Friedmans is to “speak little and to do so much”. They are the proud parents of four wonderful children: Arielle, Elisha, Aviva and Sara. A special mazal tov to the grandfathers Mr. Friedman and Mr. Rosenzweig who is one
of the founders of Young Israel of Woodmere. We wish the entire family mazal tov on this most deserved honor. Sandra and Uri Weinstein exemplify glamour, excitement and community service. Uri is a wonderful person who constantly looks for ways to enhance the shul programming. Uri developed the concept and execution of our now popular “cholent throwdown”. He was also the first year’s winner. Uri also serves on the shul’s chevra kadisha, a task for the sensitive and contemplative individual. Sandra who is a delightful person is known as a loyal friend. Her quiet acts of kindness and compassion have been felt by so many in our shul. She has chaired multiple Womens’ League committees and has been a part of many shul projects. Sandra and Uri from the time they moved into the community have proven to be people who are reliable and dependable. They are among our most valuable members. They are the proud parents of three beautiful and talented girls: Sylvie, Olivia and Jordana. We wish the entire family mazal tov. A special mazal tov to Sandra and Uri’s parents, the Schoenbachs and the Weinsteins. They are prominent leaders in Riverdale and Lawrence respectively. It is from them that Sandra and Uri learned the importance of service and participation in the Jewish community. Mazal Tov to the entire family.

Message from our President and Vice President Executive Board Chair Tonight we pay tribute to two families of the Young Israel of New Rochelle who exemplify the best qualities of our members. They have contributed their time, talents and energy to make our shul a better place, and we have all benefited. Judy and Bob Friedman arrived in our community eight years ago, and as we came to know them, they were increasingly called upon to become involved. Both as a couple and individually, they are the embodiment of the finest characteristics of our community. Judy is someone who always gives of herself freely without asking for anything in return. She weighs her words carefully, and when she speaks, we all listen. She has devoted countless hours as chair of the Women’s League Shiva Committee, caring for our members as she would for her own family. She currently serves on the Executive Board as recording secretary, and is always a voice of sage council. She has coordinated the production of the annual yizkor book, cochaired our Dinner Journal for the past two years, and also
co-edited the beautiful Commemorative Journal in honor of Rabbi Reuven and Abby Fink. Bob is a beloved chazzan in our shul on the Yamim Noraim and throughout the year. He served on the mechitza committee for our building and is a member of the Westchester Chevra Kadisha. He also has participated in two triathlons as a member of Skippy's Team. Both Judy and Bob are very active in SAR as well. Their wonderful children Arielle, Elisha, Aviva and Sara have modeled their parents as leaders in the YINR Youth Department. As soon as they arrived in New Rochelle, Sandra and Uri Weinstein looked for ways to contribute to the YINR community. Their warmth and good nature draw people toward them, and they have set an example for our vibrant young membership. They have dedicated themselves to YINR, becoming involved in numerous projects and making them successful. Sandra serves as co-chair of the Women’s League committee that provides Shabbat meals for new mothers, which not only provides a needed chesed, but also enables the community to celebrate the births of our new babies in a personal and meaningful way. From the multiple boutiques that Sandra co-chaired to her own creative idea of a “Night Out at the Movies,” she has had a golden touch. She joined the first Skippy's Team and proudly completed the triathlon. Uri was instrumental in introducing and coordinating the popular annual Cholent Throwdown, which not only is lots of fun, but is an event that brings our community together across the generations. He serves on the YINR Chevra Kadisha and on the Security Committee, and is a member of the YINR hockey team. Of course, Sandra and Uri’s proudest accomplishments are their beautiful daughters, Sylvie, Olivia and Jordana. We are blessed to have an energetic, growing congregation that is ever evolving, and our shul is a true communal center. With approximately 10 new member families each
year, our membership has continued to grow, but has remained wonderfully diverse. Our membership ranges across multiple generations and comes from different backgrounds and perspectives. We should be proud of our members’ respect for one another, and the friendships that bond us. B�H, the hundreds of children that fill the shul each week are testament to the vibrancy of our community and its promising future. Families like the Friedmans and the Weinsteins inspire us with their commitment to YINR and its membership. Service on shul committees, chairing of events, and participation in chesed efforts are all examples of how we connect to one another. They have dedicated themselves not only to making the shul run successfully, but also to bringing us together. We are tremendously grateful to them, and wish them, together with our entire community, continued bracha and hatzlacha.

Message from our Women’s League Women’s League wishes a heartfelt mazal tov to Judy and Bob Friedman and, Sandra and Uri Weinstein. Both Judy and Bob have devoted countless hours to the shul and to Women’s League. What stands out most is how much chesed they do yet so humbly and without any fanfare. For many years, Judy has quietly and unobtrusively set up peoples’ homes at the time they are most vulnerable, at the time of Shiva. Whatever is going on in her personal life, she drops it all and makes sure that everything is set up and provided for the family. Bob, with his beautiful and inspiring voice, leads us in beautiful davening on the Yamim Noraim and also participates in the most special and sensitive of mitzvot, by being a member of the Westchester Chevra Kadisha. The Friedmans never look for honors or even a thank you. We, the New Rochelle community, are so lucky and so honored to have Bob and Judy as friends and members of the YINR family. Equally as devoted are Sandra and Uri Weinstein. With their everpresent smiles, they offer their time willingly. Whether it is Sandra arranging food for families who have a newborn baby, chairing the Women’s League boutique or packing Mishloach Manot, Sandra is ever present in all Women’s League activities. Uri too jumps in for many shul projects, most prominently the shul’s “cholent throwdown” which is entering its fourth year and has been quite an enjoyable addition to YINR life. We are so appreciative of the many talents and strong commitment both Uri and Sandra have offered to YINR and Women’s League. May Hashem grant all the honorees only good health, happiness and blessings to continue to do good deeds for many years.

This quote truly speaks to the essence of Judy and Bob Friedman. Judy and Bob are dedicated and respected members of the New Rochelle community who have been actively involved in our shul since their arrival from Scarsdale eight and a half years ago. Everyone who knows them is always struck by their modesty, sincerity and willingness to be of help at any time. They have made quite the impression with their acts of chesed and commitment to the Young Israel of New Rochelle and SAR. Judy currently serves on the shul’s Executive Board and as Recording Secretary makes sure that notes from every board meeting are accurate and complete. She is Chair of the Women’s League Shiva Committee and makes it her utmost priority to carefully prepare homes for those sitting shiva so that all their needs are met without disruption or complication. Judy helped coordinate the production of the annual yizkor book, which is so appreciated by many of our members. She has co-chaired our Dinner Journal for the past two years and among her most significant accomplishments was co-editing the Commemorative Journal in honor of Rabbi Reuven and Abby Fink. Judy’s accomplishments at SAR are also notable. For four years, Judy gave much of her time to SAR as co-president of
the Parent Teacher Council and also served as co-chair of the Dinner Journal. On a personal level, Judy is a terrific friend who would do anything when someone is in need and never forgets to show her appreciation and gratitude for anything that anyone does for her. She is an unbelievably dedicated mother, wife and daughter and a wonderful friend to all who know her. Bob, fondly known as “Chazzan Bob,� has been a chazzan in our shul for the Yamim Noraim and many other occasions. It is always a pleasure to hear his regal voice reciting the holy words of our tefillot on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Bob has served on the mechitza committee for our new building and is also a member of the Westchester Chevra Kadisha, a job that he does with sensitivity and a commitment to halacha. He can often be found in the beit midrash on shabbos, is a participant in the daf yomi program and can even be seen learning from his gemarah on the train to and from work. Bob has participated in two triathlons as a member of Skippy’s Team and is currently training for a half marathon. He is also committed to SAR and has sat on the SAR Board of Trustees for several years. In his own quiet manner, Bob continues to support our community in any way that is asked of him. Judy and Bob are the proud parents of Arielle, Elisha, Aviva, and Sara. It is with great pride that we honor Judy and Bob at our forty-fifth annual dinner. We thank them both for their service and integrity.

Sandra and Uri Weinstein We are so thrilled that we are paying tribute to our dear friends, Sandra and Uri. Sandra and Uri are well known in our community as a warm, welcoming, and energetic couple who have distinguished themselves through their dedication to YINR and involvement in many shul projects. Sandra is a wonderful, genuine and loyal friend. Her positive disposition is infectious and she manages to make everyone around her feel comfortable and special. Despite working full time as a dentist, she always manages to find time to lend a helping hand. Sandra is always ready and eager to serve our shul in any capacity, big or small. She serves as co-chair of the committee that delivers Shabbat meals to new mothers, co-chaired the preholiday boutique committee, organized movie nights and assists in numerous other YINR fundraising events throughout the year. Sandra joined the first Skippy’s Team, proudly completed the triathlon and encouraged other members of our community to follow suit, even volunteering to train with them. It is a wonder how she finds time for everything and everyone, never faltering with her smile and optimism. Immediately after joining YINR, Uri began to extend himself on behalf of the shul in a variety of capacities, always with a spirit of selflessness, efficiency and with utmost humility. He personifies and projects a joy of life that is pervasive. Uri doesn’t ask anyone to do things that
he isn’t willing to do himself. In a most quiet and unassuming fashion, Uri gets the job done. Uri serves on the Chevra Kadisha and the security committees and introduced to our shul, and organized, the very popular and delicious Cholent Throwdown. Uri’s rugged and competitive spirit is regularly on display on the ice as a vital member of the YINR hockey team. Sandra and Uri are an amazing force in our shul, which is an extension of the rich Jewish life they live at home with their beautiful children, Sylvie, Olivia and Jordana (and Korby). They get involved because they truly believe that strengthening our shul leads to a vibrant community with a richer, deeper and more meaningful Jewish life. They understand that Judaism begins in our personal lives, grows through our homes and extends into our community. We cannot thank them enough for teaching us by personal example. The Weinsteins reflect the depth, sincerity and integrity of our community and have become an integral part of our family. We thank them for all that they have done and will continue to do and we are honored to call them our friends.
