EAT AND SIP

Winter is a time for the finer things in life. Be pampered in lush surroundings at the Australian National Botanic Gardens’ day spa. Jindii Eco Spa offers facial treatments, massages, hydrotherapy spas and yoga classes. Sip on exquisite cool climate wines, taste regional delicacies, meet local artists or just relax by an open fire during the Fireside Festival each weekend in August. Sample the delights of a traditional high tea at Hyatt Hotel Canberra or enjoy a champagne high tea from the rooftop terrace of the Burbury Hotel & Apartments.

Good Food put together a list of ‘The 30 Australian food adventures you must have’ and Canberra’s wine district and Braddon precinct made the cut. With more than 33 cellar doors within 35 minutes of the city you could spend a whole day exploring the cool climate wine country. Also make time to eat your way through Braddon, starting at the new urban village the Hamlet, home to an exciting variety of street food vendors.

PLAY Stand up, dress up and step up in a fabulous new family space at the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House. Play Up makes visitors the curators and it is their work up on the walls. Venture into the city centre to experience a winter wonderland during Skate in the City, an outdoor ice skating rink. Continue the frosty fun by building a snowman, go tobogganing or starting a snowball fight at Corin Forest Mountain Resort just 40 minutes from the city (weather conditions permitting).

CHEER Show support for your favourite football teams and sporting stars as they compete in Canberra. The Brumbies are back in force this year at GIO Stadium Canberra and you can see them take on the Crusaders. Catch the GIANTS final home game of the year at StarTrack Oval, against the Geelong Cats. Be a part of the action of a Canberra Raiders home match as they take on the Cowboys, the Knights, the Sharks and the West Tigers.
