Tromsø

Tromsø er et sterkt sentrum for forskning, utdanning og handel i nord. Tromsø har landets tredje største universitet med 15 000 studenter. Sterke verdensledende forskningsmiljøer innen polar forskning, bioteknologi og maritim virksomhet bidrar til å sette Tromsø på kartet.

Nordlysopplevelser tilbys fra september til mars, midnattssol fra 20. mai til 22. juli. Det er dermed fullt mulig å delta på opplevelser hele døgnet. Hvalen kommer vanligvis inn i fjordene rundt Tromsø fra midten av oktober og oppholder seg her til utgangen av januar.

The Tromsø region offers a wide range of activities and events throughout the year. There is something to suit every taste and level of experience, regardless of whether you want a trip to a museum or a challenging hike to a mountain summit.

Nature and culture go hand in hand. Join us for authentic Sami experiences, splendid kayaking trips, hiking with huskies, exciting fishing trips or to enjoy the Arctic tranquillity and landscape.

The Midnight Sun shines from 20 May to 22 July. This makes it possible to participate in adventures around the clock. The whales generally arrive in the fjords around Tromsø in midOctober and stay here until late January.

You can do many activities in Tromsø city. The people of the north are proud of their culture and history, and are happy to share all aspects of it, ranging from the traditional art of brewing through Polar history, research or visiting an Arctic artist’s home. Seltrening på Polaria I sentrum av Tromsø finner du Polaria – et særegent bygg som forestiller isblokker presset på land av ishavsbølger. Seal Training at Polaria Housed in a very distinctive building that represents ice floes that have been pressed up on land by the rough seas of the Arctic, you will discover Polaria, just a five-minute walk from the centre of Tromsø. You can watch the seal training here every day at 12:30 and 15:00. You can also see panoramic films from the Arctic every half hour throughout the day. Knowledge-based exhibitions, café and gift shop.

Every day this summer we invite you to join one of our hosts who will take you on a guided tour. At no extra cost, you can familiarize yourself with e.g. the Sami culture, the Vikings, animals of the North or perhaps the myths and physics of the Northern Lights. Nette og nydelige – de vakreste blomstene i verdens nordligste botaniske hage Mellom steiner og grus i verdens nordligste botaniske hage vokser de vakreste små blomster, sildrer, nøkleblom og søter, for å nevne noen som hagen spesialiserer seg på.

De er samla fra hele verden, ofte fra fjellområder og værharde steder. Disse plantene er blant de barskeste på planeten vår. I den nærliggende bjørkeskogen vokser mange arter som er typiske for våre breddegrader. Guiden vil fortelle om opprinnelsen og økologien til de plantene vi ser på turen, mange av den har fascinerende historier knyttet til seg, som den blå valmuesøsteren fra Tibet eller den gule blåklokka. Vi serverer også en smak av Arktis, ville bær og urter som du kan smake på. Mandag til fredag.

Small and Beautiful – Highlights of the World’s Northernmost Botanic Garden The rocky grounds of the world’s northernmost botanic garden in Tromsø are home to a great collection of flowering plants, such as saxifrages, primulas and gentians. Collected from alpine areas of all continents, these species are among the toughest survivors on the planet. Join us for a guided tour of the garden as well as the adjoining birch wood, a typical forest type for these latitudes. Our skilled guides tell of the ecology and origin of the species flowering at the time of your visit, and present fascinating stories behind some of the plants, like the exotic Tibetan blue poppy or the yellow bluebell. You will also get a taste of the Arctic – wild berries and herbs served in the garden. Monday to Friday.

Planetarium Shows & Northern Lights at the Science Centre of Northern Norway Experience spectacular all-dome planetarium shows every day. Our Northern Light spectacle gives a vivid, celestial view and a solid understanding of the scientific phenomenon, with breathtaking footage from the Tromsø region. Shown twice a day – at 12:15 and 15:15. All planetarium shows and entrance to the Science Centre – hands-on science for all ages, on 100 interactive exhibits – are included in the admission fee.

Tromsø Jazz Festival Tromsø Jazzfestival er en årlig sommerfestival i Tromsø, som holdes 10. – 13. august i år. Grottetur med Fjellkysten Gjestehus Turen går til Sagelvasgrotter i nærheten av Fjellkysten gjestehus. Her tar vi dere med på en underjordisk reise gjennom grottene som er blitt formet av vannet fra Sagelven.

Opplevelsen av å være i undergrunnen i totalt mørke er en veldig spesiell følelse. Inne i hulene tilbyr vi derfor våre gjester ulike opplevelser. Klatring og kryping gjennom trange passasjer.
