His favorite memory from law school was that he had so many law professors who were legends like Professors Karesh, Means and Haimbaugh. He had others who became legends like Professor Felix. One favorite, but not necessarily a “fond” memory was being called on by Mr. Felix as a first-year student and being totally unprepared. He was merciless. He enjoyed pickup basketball games at Hand Junior High, the NROTC gym, Valley Park and other Columbia parks. The pressure of your future as a lawyer riding on one semester exam in each subject was tremendous; so, his absolute favorite memory was graduation. His advice for young lawyers, “Being allowed to practice law is a privilege granted to relatively few citizens. That privilege is not a license to act selfishly or irresponsibly. Rather, it imposes a higher obligation to be honest, fair, and respectful of the rights of all people, even to the point of self-sacrifice. In many of our cities and town, we lawyers are in the front line of citizen contact with the ‘rule of law.’ Building respect as lawyers goes a long way in building respect for the law.”

“I truly regret that I cannot be with my classmates and friends to celebrate 50 years as a lawyer. We had a special group in the law school class of 1971. The years have proven that to be true. Our classmates have been good lawyers by helping people with legal problems, but also by doing so much good work in their communities.” EDWARD G. MENZIE Columbia, SC Edward G.
