French techno with an industrial tinge vs. UKtechno with a vengeance - this is how clubtechno devils Technokunst open their version of 2014.

Scott Kelly & The Road Home 20.00

Budapest has been missing its favourite club series for more than a month, as we were under maintenance. On February 11, A38 reopens with a traditional impro show that returns week after week. Moreover, this month they host an international funky act, The Hoo from Berlin brought to you by Badehaus Szimpla.

You can all know metal legend Neurosis, but have heard of this project? Singer Scott Kelly and samplist and synth player Noah Landis presents their dark storyteller side in Scott Kelly & The Road Home. The Forgiven Ghost is a hauntingly beautiful collection of slow, acoustic, folk-inspired songs played by hardcore musicians.

If I would tell you that this band was one of the psych-rock superstars back in the 70s, you wouldn’t doubt me until you see the release dates of their groovy and trippy albums, the first one published in 2007. Forget about what year we’re in and immerse yourself in the heyday of space rock! Oh, and don’t miss the young support band Middlemist Red, because they are worth to keep an eye on.

She has stolen the heart of many men and women around the world, enchanted the audience of Sziget festival in 2012 and is ready to return with her second, even more powerful album One Breath. She is Anna Calvi, the multi instrumentalist diva who made a strong debut worldwide and now is bringing it to the next level.

Long time ago, when Yugoslavia existed and communism flourished in Central Europe, a group of avantgarde artists founded Laibach, an industrialism and military-inspired shock project that became the precursor of bands like Rammstein. A piece of music history live on our stage, in uniforms.

Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls MAR

06 One of the most current singer-songwriters in folk pop, after loud success inside and outside the United Kingdom, Frank Turner takes over Europe with his band, The Sleeping Souls, and two talented supports in the face of Andrew Jackson Jihad and Ducking Punches. Besides the heart soothing ballads, get ready for some serious folk-punk craze!

Turisas Starkill MAR

02 Northern European folk metal is fun and not just because of the hilarious make-ups. Having created their own mythology, Turisas take you to a journey where heroes fight, fall and finally triumph over their enemies and become one with nature, very similarly to an advanture game - but with better music. Experience Finnish metal at its best from Turisas!

God Is an Blood Red Astronaut Shoes APR

07 This Irish post-rock band has grown to be one of the genre’s bests in the past ten years. Led by brothers Torsten and Nils Kinsella, GIAA is know for the ambient combination of guitars and electronica, and may be trying to grasp a piece of the past on their new album titled Origins with all that changes that took place around the band recently.

APR

02 Indie dance rock duo Blood Red Shoes have never played a Budapest club show before, though a lot of their songs are played and sung along at parties. The energy of Steven Ansell and LauraMary Carter is in simplicity: badass riffs, agitating drum play and fun lyrics that we can enjoy on their brand new, self-titled album to be released just one month before their A38 gig.

4 JANUARY MAINTENANCE WORKS

Photos by Mark Somay. Marks photos of the maintenance works will be exhibited between February 4-28 in the headquarters of our partner, MVM Hungarian Electricity Ltd.

Then the crane lifted both bridges leading to the board and jacked them to the shore. When the anchors were weighed, A38 could start its journey to the shipyard. Between January 5 and February 1, A38 spent 4 weeks at a Komรกrno, Slovakia for the decennial great maintenance. Thanks to their professional work, we look as good as new now.

On the night of January 3 a huge industrial crane arrived on site.

First, it separated the Exhibition Space from the main body of the ship.

HISTORY A38 is the reincarnation of ‘Tripolie’, a Ukrainian stone-carrier ship, built in 1968. The name comes from Artemovsk, which is the ship prototype, and this one was the 38th unit of the ‘Artemovsk’ class. The re-building project lasted for one and a half years. Architects, ship engineers, acoustic designers, electricians, musicians and promoters contributed their skills and experience to make it a both artist and audience friendly place. After years of constant development, A38 has become a cultural entertainment centre with international programme, a restaurant, five bars, one main concert hall, open-air terraces and lounges all in one aboard as one of the most fascinating venues in Budapest. Since its opening it became the flagship of Budapest nightlife, a must-see spectacle on the Danube with scenic view and one of Europe’s coolest clubs, which has been voted ‘The World’s Greatest Bar’ – according to the poll of Lonely Planet in 2012.

EXHIBITION SPACE 7

Bazil Duliskovich:

FEB. 26. MAR. 16. 10.00 18.00

Closer

Duliskovich who is known to be an icon painter started to think about how to bring his works closer to the audience and make the reception process easier more of a personal experience as we could notice it in his earlier exhibition Plan B in Mélycsarnok. To loosen up the spastic effort to understand art, the artist tries to disturb the viewer. The environment of the traditional icons and the objects that can be found in the exhibition space around the paintings are merely there to surprise, mislead and deceive. As the timeless subjects of his paintings, the objects used in the installations are also undefinable in space and time. This way, the icons, their environment

and the visitors looking for the connection between them become parts of a great picture in the present. You are the answer - provokes the experiment of Dulishkovich, who omits the professionalism of art criticism and invites viewers to experience sights that are out of their comfort zone. The exhibition will be opened on February 25 at 8 PM by historian Zoltán Sz. Bíró. Music by Gaya and Karen Arutyunyan.

A38-MVM Light Painting: Oscillations Audiovisual painting installations and live act The Oscillation is the newest project from Monochrome Clack group, creative activities of three artists who build a unique connection between the painting and audiovisual electronic art. Éva Köves and Andrea Sztojánovits began cooperating in 2009. Gábor Borosi joined to the group in 2013. Their pieces of art are based on the finding that computer animation (movements, light) projected on oil/canvas/photo paintings (paintinginstallations) - on meeting an active observer’s attitude - creates a new-

22-23 20.00 24.00

type of medium from the static elements of the painting and constantly changing elements of digital animation. The painting and the projected visual creates together the structure of the animations. In their newest project the real time image distortions converts the organic hive forms to moving textures, the paintings became sensitive by the sound reactive visualisations.
