If this autumn you're craving something dark and mysterious, and you're ready to venture into a dangerous and violent world reminiscent of late medieval Europe, open The Witcher by Andrzej Sapkowski. Let's take a closer look at the book. Andrzej Sapkowski's The Witcher is a series of books about Geralt of Rivia, the macho fantasy hero, the last wandering hunter of monsters in a world where there is still room for witches, elves, vampires and other evil spirits. The humans are actively squeezing them out of their former domain and are willing to pay a hefty sum to youngsters like Geralt to solve their problems with a sword strike. The villain has some supernatural powers himself: he has great strength, senses danger, and is immune to poisons. And he's not exactly an unscrupulous mercenary: he can refuse to kill a rare or particularly intelligent magical creature. The first books in the witch series are collections of short stories united by the main character himself. Subsequent books are characterised by a larger and more connected plot, which revolves around Geralt and his apprentice, Ciri. We recently wrote about the order in which to read the The Witcher series.
