While there I found a passion for leatherworking through a medieval society I joined. I started out making heavy leather armor, and eventually expanded my work to bags, pouches, wallets and jewelry. I love working with leather because of its versatility, and the organic nature of it. There is something different about every piece, that helps me decide what to turn it into. •

Julie Peterson

Lance Stark

Oils on Canvas and Hardboard

Photography

Julie loves painting scenes from all over Washington. She feels this is a great state that offers everything an artist could ask for.

My father got me interested in photography in grade school. Camera technology has come a long way in those 50 years, but I have always been drawn to nature and the world around us. So many wonders and beauty, photography allows us to capture an image that you may never see again. That’s fun, a visual memory. I hope you enjoy what I see.

Her medium is in Oils on Canvas and Hardboard. She paints landscapes and wildlife. Her style is defined as traditional realism. Each piece of work has many hours of devoting layers of paint which gives each piece its rich brilliant color. anne@pearbox. com •

Kathy Wetherell & Lisa Day

Lowell C. M. Simonsen

Upcycled Art

Wood Lathe Worker

Kathy Wetherell and Lisa Day have collaborated on a number of projects together. Recently they have up-cycled and reused items in whimsical and unique ways. They have created glass mosaic windows on old windows , recycled and embellished clothing and purses and are making resin jewelry: earrings and necklaces in fun exciting colors. Both women have been creating art items for years, excited about recycling found objects and transforming them into something unique and different.

Lowell has been making shavings on the wood lathe for over 25 years. Even after all this time, he is still amazed by the beauty you can find in a chunk of firewood or limb of a tree. He makes bowls, vases and more. He tries to allow the color, grain, shape and defects to allow the piece of wood to evolve into the shape it is meant to be.

Katie Frey

Matt McClosky

Acrylic, Watercolor, & Pastel Painter and Mixed Media Artist

Oil landscapes and floral paintings

Inspired by the beauty of nature, Katie Frey paints in the modern impressionist style with vibrant colors and loose brushwork. It is her passion to share the joy of creating with others and she was been teaching art to children and adults for over ten years in Spokane, WA. •

I specialize in oil landscapes and floral paintings with an emphasis on thick textural impasto brush strokes and bright vivid colors. I have a form of Synesthesia “mixed senses” that greatly informs and guides my work. When I look at a painting I hear a chord comprised of all the different shapes, angles, colors and proportions present in the painting. As I build my compositions I am careful that each new addition is in harmony with the rest ensuring that all of my paintings create a pleasing balanced chord. •

Watercolorist In the fall of 1973 Stan had made a decision to try to make a living as a full time, professional watercolorist and has managed to do that now for more than forty years. Along with painting, he's started teaching watercolor in 1976, with little teaching experience. Improving his teaching skills, Stan now enjoys teaching nearly as much as painting, teaching weekly classes in Spokane and workshops around the world. However, most of his time is spent in his studio painting, hoping never to retire. •
