Participants will have the opportunity to try their hand at a variety of exciting challenges, learn new games, make new friends, and create a one-of-a-kind craft. Magic is always everywhere. Challenge yourself to be in search of something extraordinary, even in the most ordinary of things! You, your family, and your masks are invited to join us this summer as we feature a completely FREE and definitely FUN bi-weekly challenge to get out and play in your parks! We hope these challenges provide you with an exciting and unique way to enjoy nature, fitness, and fun in our parks! Participation in FCPR’s “Walk and Watch Challenge” is voluntary, free of cost, and all activities can be done simply through physical movement and visual identification of items (no touch!). Registration for each challenge is required. Email with full details will be sent out at 8am on the first day of the challenge. LADYBUG LOOKOUT Ancient folklore states that seeing a ladybug is a symbol of good luck and prosperity - and when one is spotted, you are to make a wish! Between the dates of July 13th and July 29th, you and your family will be on the search for ladybugs in a select few of our parks. Take a walk on our mapped “walk and watch trails” and enjoy the thrill of the search and positive conversation with family! Want to be in the running to win a prize? In this riddle-styled scavenger hunt, you will have to find the first infinity stone before going to find the next one. All Infinity Stones will be located along the park path. WOMEN’S WELLNESS HIKE: ANNAPOLIS ROCKS/BLACK ROCK CLIFFS
Join staff and recharge in nature with like-minded outdoor women as we hike the Appalachian Trail towards Annapolis Rocks and Black Rock Cliffs. An 8 mile in-and-out trail with a 800’ elevation gain, this hike serves as one of the most popular in Maryland, with stunning vistas overlooking Greenbrier at Annapolis Rocks and an 180 degree panorama west at Black Rock Cliff. The trail is a mostly pleasant hike with brief encounters with steep elevation differences. This hike will require the ability to complete the hike at a fast moving, group pace in allotted hiking time of 3.5 hours. Program details and meeting information will be sent a week prior. FOREST THERAPY WALK
ACTIVE ADULT HIKE: C&O CANAL
Enjoy social time with like-minded outdoor enthusiasts as we appreciate yesterday’s lifeline, today’s gem by foot. We will do our best to accommodate each person’s fitness as we explore the Lander to Brunswick section, approx. 8.2 miles, 4 hours. ADULT SOCIAL HIKE: CATOCTIN MOUNTAIN EXTENDED LOOP
Join staff and like-minded outdoor enthusiasts as we hike an 8.5 mile loop of Catoctin Mountain with a 1700’ elevation gain. This loop is a combination of all of the three major loops in the Catoctin Mountain Park, including Cunningham Falls, Hog Rock, Blue Ridge Summit, Thurmont Vista, Wolf Rock, and Chimney Rock. Ranges from an easy walk to a challenging uphill hike, but the spectacular vistas make it well worth the climb. This hike will require the ability to complete the hike at a fast-moving, group pace in allotted hiking time of 4.5 hours. Program details and meeting information will be sent a week prior. BANG POWER DANCE
Bang Power Dance is a dance fitness fusion format that blends cardio activity and HIIT intervals to increase the workout.
