Bark in the Park

Enjoy an afternoon with your furry, four-legged friend, at the Frederick County Parks and Recreation annual Bark in the Park. Your pooch will have an opportunity to run free in one of our off-leash areas, test and sharpen his or her skills on the agility course and make new friends. Bark in the Park also provides great opportunities for families to adopt a dog, learn different training techniques, sample dog related products, and visit exhibit booths. Learn about life during the World War II Era through our museum exhibits and through visiting with our reenactors as well as WWII veterans. Preschool Let your child grow with us!

This is an enriching program that encompasses a childâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s development.

Students can earn achievement stickers in 5 wellness aspects: nature, sports & wellness, enrichment, family and art.

1. Attend a combination of ten programs (2 art, 2 family, 2 nature, 2 sports & wellness, and 2 enrichment) between 9/1/18 and 5/31/19. Eligible programs have an icon next to them throughout the brochure (see icons below). 2. Receive a sticker at each eligible program and attach it to your preschool passport tracker. Our daily schedule includes free play, circle time, art, movement, and snack and story time. This inclusive group is taught by staff from the Frederick County Infants and Toddlers Program. Your child will increase coordination, balance, and begin learning handstands, cartwheels, jumping, and bar skills. FISH AND WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT MERIT BADGE This merit badge helps a Scout understand fish and wildlife life cycles, habitat requirements, predator prey relationships, natural succession, competition, and a host of other fish and wildlife management principles. CAVING FOR A DAY Learn about the local geology and history of this hidden cave. Please remember to bring: a water bottle, wear long pants, and be prepared to get a little dirty. Also athletic, walking, or hiking shoes (no sandals). Helmets and lights provided. Cave tour (30 minutes) is mostly walking and stooping. Cave temp is 54 degrees. Trip will include a 1.5 mile hike to the cave entrance along the C&O Canal and back. Any participant under the age of 16 must be accompanied by parent or guardian. ANNAPOLIS ROCK/BLACK ROCK HIKE Join staff as we hike a section of the Appalachian Trail that leads to Annapolis Rock and Black Rock. This is a 5.1 mile out and back hike, with 816 ft. elevation gain which offers a scenic view of the Great Appalachian Valley. Meet at the AT trail head Parking lot. Parking is located off of Baltimore National Pike (Route 40) after Canada Hill Road if heading west. If using Google Maps or iPhone simply type in "AT trail head and parking I-70, MD". Format is NFL FLAG rules modified for adults, everyone is eligible to receive passes. VOLLEYBALL CO-ED MIDDLE SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE This league is for boys and girls enrolled in grades 6th, 7th or 8th grade during the 2018-2019 school year. Learn basic volleyball skills, play games against other county teams, and participate in a tournament. Practices are held once a week and will vary at each site. Jerseys will be provided. Drop-In Programs Players of all abilities and levels are welcome to participate in drop-in programs. There is no formal instruction and all necessary equipment is provided. The Center Coordinator will monitor drop-in programs. All participants must show proof of identification and sign a waiver upon entering a drop-in program for the first time. TAP/BALLET COMBINATION CLASS This is an introductory class containing ballet and tap. Young dancers will learn the basic ballet steps while learning how to follow direction and imitate movement. Second part of the class will focus on the development of basic technical tap skills, as well as ability to understand music. NUMBER SENSE POWER WORKOUT Whether your child is struggling with math or crazy about numbers, the NUMBER SENSE power workout is for them! Problem solving skills, the centerpiece of modern mathematics education, have their roots in NUMBER SENSE, which is an integral component of everyone’s “mathematical toolkit”. A student can be said to have basic NUMBER SENSE when s/he can count from any number, to any number, by any number; split a number into any number of parts; compare any two numbers by subtraction and division; use all of the above and the idea that “the whole is equal to the sum of its parts” to solve non-routine problems and determine the reasonableness of their answers. Early program registration is encouraged since roster size is limited. Registrations are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Pre-registration is required unless otherwise indicated. REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION

Confirmations are sent via e-mail, otherwise your cancelled check or credit card statement is your receipt. You will be notified if there is a problem processing your registration or if the program is cancelled. Please make a note of your program start date. REFUND POLICY

Our refund policy encourages early decisions, so as to not affect other customers or our ability to deliver efficient programs. All requests for refunds must be made at least 10 business days prior to the start of the program. A 20% administrative fee will be charged per refund transaction. Registrations that require advanced tickets are not refundable. Refunds for Sport League registrations must be made prior to the listed league registration deadline. There are no refunds for missed sessions.

PROGRAM CREDITS/TRANSFERS

To avoid the administrative fee, a customer may transfer into another program with no additional fee. A credit may also be kept on the customer account at no additional charge. Requests for both credits and transfers can only be made 5 or more business days prior to the program start date. There are no refunds of credits.

Please see your instructor on the first day of your program for a schedule. If there is a change in the schedule, you will be informed by Parks and Recreation staff of the update. If you are not sure whether a program will be held, call our program cancellation line at 301-600-6291. During inclement weather, outdoor programs may be cancelled. Every effort will be made to makeup missed classes. Refunds will not be granted for rescheduled classes that are missed due to conflicts with personal schedules. The Division may cancel a program for any reasonable cause.

Any Frederick County Parks & Recreation volunteer head coach will receive a 25% credit off of the league registration fee upon completion of coaching requirements. All returning volunteer head coaches will receive a 30% credit. Head coaches are only eligible to receive one credit per team regardless of the number of children he/ she has on the team; credits arenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t applicable to assistant coaches.
