HOW TO REGISTER • Log on to www.recreater.com, create an account and register online. • Call 301-600-2936, have your program number (i.e. #24099) and credit card number ready. PROGRAM CANCELLATIONS/ WEATHER-RELATED CLOSURES Please see your instructor on the first day of your program for a schedule. If there is a change in the schedule, you will be informed by Parks and Recreation staff of the update. If you are not sure whether a program will be held, call our program cancellation line at 301-600-6291. During inclement weather, outdoor programs may be cancelled. Every effort will be made to make-up missed classes. Refunds will not be granted for rescheduled classes that are missed due to conflicts with personal schedules. The Division may cancel a program for any reasonable cause. AGE POLICY Program participants must be the advertised age of the program before the program ends. All age requirements are set to benefit the participants and to make sure the instruction is consistent and safe. REFUND POLICY Our refund policy encourages early decisions, so as to not affect other customers or our ability to deliver efficient programs. All requests for refunds must be made at least 10 business days prior to the start of the program. A 20% administrative fee will be charged per refund transaction. Registrations that require advanced tickets are not refundable. Refunds for Sports League registrations must be made prior to the listed league registration deadline. There are no refunds for missed sessions.

We will meet at Went End Park and hike approximately 1 mile while we search for seasonal treasures. The hike will take approximately 1 hour. The trail is stroller and kid friendly. We will explore the trees of Catoctin Creek Park then construct a model tree from boxes and tubes. From nests in the branches to snug holes in the trunk, from tunnels under the bark to burrows in the roots, animals make use of trees for shelter and as a place to raise their young. Start now to let your hair grow as wild and free as your sense of adventure and celebrate your new found unruliness by venturing out into the park to race among other Hairy Monsters. The more creative can keep their well kempt look and embellish with faux hair to bring out their inner monster. This event is designed within the confines of Catoctin Creek Park and each individual or 2 person team will create their own strategy to reach each checkpoint. The racers will use map and compass to find a variety of checkpoints. The distance of 5K is an average of the course and each racer could lessen the distance or go farther depending on their strategy. The “Titles” that are at stake are The Fastest Monster, The Hairiest of the Hairy, and many other “monstrously” fun victories you could achieve during this race. Each racer or team will have 90 minutes to collect each checkpoint.

Join our experienced naturalist for a sneak peek at one of our local caves. Learn about the local geology and history of this hidden wonder. Participants will meet onsite. This linear trail is 4.2 miles in length (8.4 round trip) and connects Ballenger Creek Park to Buckeystown Pike. Join staff and like-minded outdoor enthusiasts as we hike Choate Mine, Dolfield and Serpentine Trail at Soldiers Delight Natural Environment Area (SDNEA). This loop series is a moderate 5.4 mile trail with less than 500’ elevation gain; trail surface is mostly rocky and uneven. SDNEA is comprised of 1,900 acres of serpentine barren and has over 39 rare, threatened, or endangered plant species as well as rare insects, rocks and minerals. Make sure to wear comfortable, closed toe, hiking shoes and bring a water bottle, snacks/lunch. Approximately a 3 hour hike. Transportation is provided with this registration. During our approximately 4 mile hike, we will combine trails to view Fort Frederick - the only stone fort build by an English colony during the French and Indian War, Plantation Trail that passes through an experimental tree plantation from the 1930’s, and finally to the Beaver Pond wetlands to catch glimpses of Big Pool and the Potomac River.
