Essential Eligibility: Level 1- Level 4. Is there a better way to spend Spring Break then hanging out with friends?! Come join us for some spring themed activities at our Adaptive Spring Break Camp. This camp is geared specifically to individuals with disabilities and higher support needs. Registration deadline: 1 week before start of camp.

Frederick County Parks and Recreation offers Adaptive Recreation (AIR) programs designed to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities, developmental differences, and/ or higher support needs as well as emphasize participants’ unique abilities. Programs utilize trained staff and higher staff/participant ratios in addition to adapted spaces, materials, and content to provide an opportunity for individuals to participate in various recreation activities.

ADAPTIVE - EMPOWERED GYMNASTICS

Essential Eligibility: Program Levels 1-2. Empowered Gymnastics will teach children with physical and development disabilities, delays, or differences the basics of gymnastics. We will use lower level apparatuses to grow the students’ comfort levels and focus on starting positions and basic skills. Each class we will start with a warm up, then move to stretching, structured activities, and a game or group play at the end. Essential Eligibility Criteria: Program levels 1 & 2. This class will provide individuals with physical and developmental disabilities an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of martial arts, including stances, blocking, striking, and kicking and allow them to focus on individual skills in a team environment. Essential Eligibility Criteria: Program levels 1-4. Families of children with special needs or disabilities are invited to come enjoy an open gym at Rock Creek Rec Center. Come move, play, and explore! Select sports equipment will be provided. No formal instruction will be provided. Participants under 18 must be supervised by a parent/guardian/caregiver over the age of 18. Siblings are welcome at no additional cost. If personal care assistance is needed, caregiver must stay onsite. Goals: To increase coordination, body awareness, gross motor skills, and physical activity. 2024 ADAPTIVE OPEN GYM

Cost: The cost is $2 per participant per program per day. Individuals with disabilities are welcome to come enjoy our Adaptive Open Gym. There is no formal instruction and all necessary equipment is provided. A caregiver must stay onsite as this no supervision is provided. The Center Coordinator will monitor drop-in programs. No organized team practices. Waiver: All participants must show proof of identification, sign a waiver and code of conduct agreement upon entering a drop-in program for the first time. Any participant in violation of the Code of Conduct may be asked to leave by the recreation center staff member. Please review the Code of Conduct before participating in any drop in programs with Frederick County Parks and Recreation. Closings We request that you include your email address when signing in to a drop-in program. We send an email to those participants informing them of any schedule changes, updates and cancellations.
