Changes to Aquatic lesson registration
These improvements include:
• Adding skills as a pre–requisite to a customer’s profile in the registration system as a requirement for aquatics lessons and
• Adding additional registration dates for aquatic lessons on a rolling registration. A rolling registration will provide an opportunity for participants to register for a lesson more frequently throughout the season and provide fewer breaks in learning.
Registration for aquatic lesson programs will go as follows:
• Port Coquitlam residents will have access at 8 am 30 days prior to the first day of swim lessons.
• General public will have access at 8 am 27 days prior for the first day of swim lessons.
Providing proof of prerequisites
Bring a report card to one of the Recreation Centres (Hyde Creek Recreation Centre or Port Coquitlam Community Centre) in person or send an email with the participant’s name and a photo of the report card to recreation@portcoquitlam.ca. Please ensure the photo includes the participant’s name and the last level they have passed.
If you are unsure whether the prerequisites are in the system, please contact the Recreation team at recreation@portcoquitlam.ca or call 604–927–PLAY (7529).
Aquatic Programs
• Participants may only register for one swim lesson set (including performance enhancers).
• Participants currently enrolled in a swim lesson set may NOT be on another waitlist
• Participants not currently enrolled in a lesson set can be added to multiple waitlists.
• Participants must successfully complete a swim level prior to registering in the next level.
• Additional swim class registrations will result in participant being withdrawn from additional registrations (refund policy in effect).

Art Exhibitions
The Michael Wright Art Gallery (MWAG), Outlet Gallery, City Hall Gallery, and Port Coquitlam Community Centre feature a rotating program of exhibitions by local and regional artists.
Energy and Vibration by Tamana S.H. Djuya
June 19 – September 24, 2024
The Michael Wright Art Gallery presents Energy and Vibration by Tamana S.H. Djuya. Tamana is a multidisciplinary visual artist who lives and works in Vancouver, British Columbia. Her practice stems from a critical view of socio-political and cultural issues as well as interpersonal themes. She weaves together memories from childhood with inspiration that arises from her present-day life. For Djuya, symbolism can be found in everything in our world. Her paintings reflect her life, rife with references to both her personal past of living between the East and West and that of ancient history. Within them she addresses a wide range of topics, from the socio-political to humor, to metaphysical aspects of objects, symbolism, and the existence of being. In her solo exhibition “Energy and Vibration” Tamana employs a series of physical artworks, that reflects the transformation of energy and vibration into physical force.
Beautiful Trepidation by Maan Kaur
June 19 – September 24, 2024
The Outlet Gallery presents Beautiful Trepidation by Maan Kaur. Originally from India, Maan came to Canada to fulfill her dream of becoming an artist and to immerse herself in the accepting and supportive culture here. The concept for her solo exhibition, Beautiful Trepidation, emerged while she was listening to a white noise podcast before bed. As she tried to sleep, she contemplated the powerful duality of water, which evoked both comfort and fear in her. This realization became the cornerstone of her exhibition, which shows how sentiments play a big part in numerous activities we perform on a daily basis.
Arts & Culture
The exhibitions advance knowledge, appreciation and understanding of the visual arts by integrating art into community life and contributing significantly to the cultural landscape of Port Coquitlam. Visit portcoquitlam.ca/exhibitions for more information.
Urbanscapes: Snippets of Metro Vancouver by Dilys Huang
July 17, 2024 – January 14, 2025
The City Hall Gallery presents Urbanscapes: Snippets of Metro Vancouver by Dilys Huang. Based in the Tri-Cities, Dilys has enjoyed creating art since a young age and continued to further pursue her creative journey through high school. She later studied urban planning in university. Her curiosity and fascination with the surrounding environment is highlighted in her inkand watercolour sketches, which tend to focus on buildings, cities, and the urban landscape. Much of her inspiration is drawn from what she sees and places she has visited.. Reflecting Dilys’ interest in planning, architecture, and art, this exhibition features sketches of local landmarks viewers may already recognize or want to explore around Metro Vancouver.
Radio Days by Victoria Klassen
June 20, 2024 - September 21, 2024
The Port Coquitlam Community Centre gallery presents Radio Days by Victoria Klassen. Victoria is an abstract painter working in acrylics and mixed media. This series of paintings is inspired by a collection of drawings and notes found amongst a box of old family photos. Her intention with this series is to give voice to the uniqueness of her late Great Uncle Clarie’s work, which he was unable to share while he was still living. Layering his notes and sketches into her pieces creates depth and mystery as bits of the papers peak out through the paint. The resulting pieces reveal elements of her uncle's visual language and are incorporated into her own, as memories are telling a bit of his story through a contemporary lens.
