Teacher Support Redesign Project Manager Job Description

About OpenSciEd

OpenSciEd is a project under the National Center for Civic Innovation that brings together multiple partners, including science leadership from ten states, world class curriculum developers, philanthropic organizations, and national science education leaders and experts, to create a complete set of robust, research-based, open-source K-12 science instructional materials and professional learning Launched by the Carnegie Corporation of New York with additional support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Walton Family Foundation, and the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation.

About the Teacher Support Redesign Project

Providing all science teachers the support they deserve is a challenge not yet overcome in today’s schools. Though not a new challenge, it has been made more apparent in the implementation of Framework-based standards The research behind these standards made it clear a paradigm shift in instruction is required to ensure all students, especially those that have been marginalized, have the opportunity to embrace the beauty and wonder of the world while learning what is needed to prepare them for their lives beyond 12th grade Making this change requires quality materials AND professional learning

This project intends to make significant progress in solving this issue. OpenSciEd has developed, released, and delivered a suite of best in class curriculum based professional learning (PL) materials Hundreds of facilitators have employed them to support thousands of teachers across the country. Yet, we know thousands of teachers are using OpenSciEd classroom materials without the support they deserve.

This project will reach out to teachers to learn about the barriers they face in accessing PL and then redesign how our PL materials are delivered and structured to better meet the needs of teachers in all types of schools and communities. OpenSciEd curriculum development is generously supported by philanthropic organizations.
