Not entirely unlike the nation that provides its namesake, the American Athletic Conference was born from an ideal in which members with ambitious goals are provided with the means to succeed in their quests for excellence. With roots that extend to three conferences, the American Athletic Conference membership in 201415 consists of 11 institutions: the University of Central Florida, the University of Cincinnati, East Carolina University, the University of Connecticut, the University of Houston, the University of Memphis, the University of South Florida Southern Methodist University, Temple University, Tulane University and the University of Tulsa. The 2015-16 season sees the U.S. Naval Academy join the ranks in football only. Under the leadership of commissioner Mike Aresco, The American, which operated as the Big East Conference from 1979 to 2013, has immediately taken a place at the forefront of Division I athletics, with schools that have played in four Bowl Championship Series games, won four NCAA men’s basketball titles since 1999, and won nine NCAA women’s basketball championships since 1995. Two American Athletic Conference football teams were ranked in the top 15 of the final 2013 Associated Press poll. Five were selected for bowl games, including UCF, which won the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and finished the season ranked No. 10 nationally. The conference produced 14 players who received All-America recognition by a major outlet. The American had four players chosen in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, trailing only the SEC and the ACC among FBS conferences. UCF quarterback Blake Bortles highlighted a group of 12 American Athletic Conference players chosen when he was taken No. 3 overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars. The success of The American in Year 1 was not limited to the gridiron. UConn won NCAA titles in both men’s and women’s basketball. The conference had the best postseason winning percentage of any league in men’s basketball, while The American produced top-10 teams in baseball, men’s soccer and men’s golf and sent half of its participating teams to the NCAA Softball Championship. The American Athletic Conference holds television partnerships with ESPN and CBS Sports which will give the conference unprecedented national exposure. The football portion of the contract, which begins in the 2014 season, calls for nearly 90 percent of conferencecontrolled games on national broadcast or national cable platforms. The first American Athletic Conference Football Championship, which will be played in 2015, will be carried either on ABC or ESPN on Championship Saturday. In men’s basketball, the television deal calls for all

conference-controlled games to be televised, with more than 63 percent slotted for national broadcast or national cable – a minimum of 107 games. The entire postseason tournament will be televised, including the championship game, which will be either on ABC or ESPN. Sixty percent of the American’s women’s basketball games will be carried on either national cable, regional sports networks or ESPN3. American Athletic Conference teams will have access to the pinnacle of college football’s postseason structure. An American representative would be chosen for the College Football Playoff semifinals if it is among the top four teams following the regular season. Otherwise, the league would place its champion in either the Cotton Bowl, Fiesta Bowl or Peach Bowl if it is ranked higher than the champions of Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference, the Mountain West Conference and the Sun Belt Conference. Additionally, The American has announced primary or secondary partnerships with 12 bowls for the next sixyear cycle, ensuring multiple annual matchups against the nation’s top conferences and providing desirable postseason destinations to member institutions and their fans. The American Athletic Conference administers to its membership from a state-of-the-art office located in Providence, R.I. The location of the conference headquarters – just steps from the city’s Amtrak station and 10 minutes from T.F. Green International Airport – gives the conference easy access to its member schools. The conference headquarters is equipped with a complete video production studio, serving as the home of the American Digital Network, and small- and

large-scale meeting rooms to accommodate the many coaches’ and administrators’ meetings held on-site each year.

It is the third most all-time in USF history. 2010 proved to be a year of firsts for USF, not only under Schilte-Brown but the entire program. She took the Bulls, the farthest they had ever been in the BIG EAST Championships. The Bulls were the No. 3 seed out of the American Division and receiving a first round bye USF traveled to the nations capaital and knocked off Georgetown in the quarterfinals. Following the season, the Bulls were recognized by Somis Sports as the 13th most improved women’s soccer programs in America from 2008 to 2009. Schilte-Brown came to USF after seven years at Virginia Commonwealth, where she led the Rams to consecutive appearances in the NCAA Women’s Soccer College Cup (2004, 2005) and back-to-back conference championships. During her seven years at VCU, Schilte-Brown led the Rams to a 77-51-17 record, including Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) conference championships in 2004 and 2005 and a third-place finish in 2006. The Rams won the CAA Tournament as well in 2004 and under Schilte-Brown’s guidance advanced to the program’s only two NCAA Tournament appearances in 2004 and 2005. Prior to arriving at VCU in 2000, Schilte-Brown directed the University of MarylandBaltimor County Retrievers to an 18-17-1 record over two seasons, including a second and fourth-place finish in the Northeast Conference.

ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH CHRIS BROWN Entering his ninth season as an assistant coach with USF in 2015, Chris Brown has played an important role in the success of the USF women’s soccer program over the last eight seasons. Brown has helped guide the Bulls to constant improvement as each season has seen the Bulls improve in almost every offensive and defensive category. USF bettered its numbers from the previous season in each of his first four seasons in total wins, conference wins, goals scored, points, shots on goal, goals allowed, GAA and shutouts. Brown helped lead USF to it’s second NCAA appearance as well as an appearance in the American Athletic Conference Tournament Championship in 2014. Brown helped lead USF to its second straight 10-plus win season and third in four years in 2013 as well as an appearance in the semifinals of the American Athletic Conference Tournament. In 2012 the Bulls posted a 11-5-3 overall record and 6-2-2 record in BIG EAST play and advanced to the BIG EAST semifinals before falling to Georgetown in penalty kicks. USF’s six conference wins tied for the most since Brown joined the staff in 2007. In 2010, the Bulls made their first appearance in the BIG EAST Championship Finals and made their first NCAA tournament, earning their first NCAA win with a 3-1 defeat of Auburn. Brown helped the Bulls to the second most wins program history (14) which was one shy of the program record. Brown is the head coach for the Guyana Senior Women’s National Soccer team. During the summer of 2010, Brown watched his Guyana Senior Women’s National Soccer team qualify for both the Central American and Caribbean Games and the final round of the 2010 Gold Cup. In his first season with the Bulls, Brown helped guide the Bulls to the 2007 BIG EAST tournament and then again in 2009, where they picked up their first BIG EAST Championship win. Brown came to USF from Virginia Commonwealth, where he worked with the Rams for seven seasons, six of which were as the co-head coach, alongside his wife, Denise. Brown joined then-fiancée Denise Schilte for the 2000 season as an assistant coach and helped guide VCU, which finished just 3-15-2 the previous year, to a breakthrough campaign. The Rams finished with a record of 9-10-1 and advanced to the semifinals of the CAA tournament for the first time in school history. He was elevated to co-head coach after the couple married in April, 2001 and directed the 2001 VCU squad to seven wins and another appearance in the league tournament semifinals, which earned the husband-and-wife tandem CAA Coach-of-the-Year honors. In 2004, the tandem guided the Rams to their first CAA Tournament Title and their first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament. VCU continued its success the next season, winning the 2005 CAA regular season title and advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season while also winning the program’s first and only game in the tournament, a 3-1 victory over Clemson. Those two seasons are still the only two in school history in which the Rams have advanced the NCAA Tournament. Brown’s soccer resume is outstanding, both as a coach and player. He played at both UNC Charlotte and American University before graduating with honors from the latter in 1994.

He played professionally for 11 seasons (1994-2004), including the last five with the Richmond Kickers of the A-League. Brown was also a member of the A-League’s New Orleans Storm from 1996-99 and played briefly for Major League Soccer’s Dallas Burn during the 1998 season. In addition, he spent two years with TusCelle of the German Third Division. Brown’s collegiate coaching career began as an assistant with the University of Tampa men’s team in 1997. He then joined Schilte during her two-year stint as head coach at Maryland-Baltimore County before the pair arrived at VCU. Born in London, England, Brown grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and holds citizenship in three countries: the United States, England and Canada. He possesses a USSF “A” coaching license and a USSF National Youth coaching license. Brown and his wife, Denise, have two children, a set of twins named Ethan and Kenza.

ASSISTANT COACH JASON DOWIAK Jason Dowiak enters his third season on the staff after joining the Bulls in 2013 after helping Florida Gulf Coast University and Anderson University (Ind.) reach new levels in the national rankings. In 2013, Dowiak helped lead the Bulls to a 10-4-6 mark and 4-3-2 record in American Athletic Conference play. USF advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament before falling to UCF in penalty kicks. Dowiak, who played at College of Charleston for Ralph Lundy, served as an assistant coach for the FGCU women’s program from 2011-13 and helped guide the Eagles to their highest NCAA RPI ranking and first-ever Southeast Regional ranking. Dowiak was directly involved in all aspects of a program that won Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament titles and earned NCAA tourney berths the past two seasons. Before Dowiak headed to Southwest Florida, he was Anderson University’s women’s soccer head coach from 2007-2011 and helped the Ravens become one of the nation’s Top 20 Most Improved NCAA D-II Programs. Dowiak led Anderson University to a Carolinas Conference Tournament appearance in his first season and later helped the program reach its first conference tournament championship game. The Ravens also posted their best overall and conference record (12-9, 8-3) in school history under Dowiak. Dowiak has remained busy outside of college soccer, serving as an assistant director and staff coach for Ralph Lundy Soccer Academy from 2001-2011 before becoming a part of two prestigious programs in Florida.
