The first Guthrie Commemoration was held on 22nd May 1868. It consisted of a dinner at the Clifton Down Hotel, Canon Moseley, Chairman of the Council, being in the chair. Several of the Council, the Masters and Old Cliftonians and a few members of the sixth form were presentabout fifty in all.

On this Commemoration Day, we come together to give thanks to God for the work of Bishop John Percival and for his vision in establishing this School; to pray for its continuance, for the service of its staff, past and present, for the students who are its being and its purpose, and for all those who have passed through its doors to serve the wider community.
As we participate in this act of worship and praise, we remember the many blessings bestowed by God upon our College through the years.
