Guthrie and Percival Commemoration
Guthrie and Percival Commemoration 2023
25th May 2023
The first Guthrie Commemoration was held on 22nd May 1868. It consisted of a dinner at the Clifton Down Hotel, with Canon Moseley, Chairman of the Council, being in the chair. Several of the Council, the Masters and Old Cliftonians and a few members of the sixth form were present - about fifty in all.
It is a commemoration of the building of the Chapel and of John Guthrie and his wife Caroline, its founders and of all other “founders and benefactors, by whose benefit this whole school is brought up to Godliness and good learning”.
The warmest of welcomes to our Pre-Preparatory Commemoration Day.
It has been another amazing year in our part of Clifton College and we look forward to sharing that with you today.
As a community we take immense pride in what our children achieve here, and I hope our Commemoration Day gives you the opportunity to celebrate that with us and to get a sense of the magic of the Pre-Prep journey.

Song Three Little Birds
Don’t worry , about a thing,
’Cos ev’ry little thing ’s gonna be alright.
Singin’ don’t worry, about a thing
’Cos ev’ry little thing ’s gonna be alright.
Rise up this morning, smile with the rising sun, Three little birds pitch by my doorstep
Singin’ sweet songs, of melodies pure and true, Singin’, ‘This is my message to you.’
Singin’ don’t worry, about a thing
’Cos ev’ry little thing ’s gonna be alright.
Singin’ don’t worry, about a thing
’Cos ev’ry little thing ’s gonna be alright.
The Prayers
Song Sunshine in My Heart
Out on the street there is sunshine, when two friends meet there is sunshine, when life is sweet there is sunshine, sunshine in my heart. (Repeat)
Sunshine, sunshine, sunshine in my heart. Sunshine, sunshine, sunshine in my heart.
Doot doo doo doo doot, doot doo doo.
Doot doo doo doo doot doot.
Doot doo doo doo doot, doot doo doo.
Doot doo doo doo doot doot.
Out on the street there is sunshine, when two friends meet there is sunshine, when life is sweet there is sunshine, sunshine in my heart.
Sunshine, sunshine, sunshine in my heart. Sunshine, sunshine, sunshine in my heart.
Out on the street there is sunshine, when two friends meet there is sunshine, when life is sweet there is sunshine, sunshine in my heart, sunshine in my heart, sunshine in my heart.
Song Spread a Little Happiness
Even when the darkest clouds are in the sky, You mustn’t sigh and you mustn’t cry, Spread a little happiness as you go by, Please try!
What’s the use of worrying and feeling blue? When days are long keep on smiling through; Spread a little happiness ‘til dreams come true. Surely you’ll be wise
To make the best of ev’ry Blues Day? Don’t you realise you’ll find next Monday or next Tuesday your Golden Shoes Day?
Even when the darkest clouds are in the sky, You mustn’t sigh and you mustn’t cry, Spread a little happiness as you go by.
The Blessing

Berkeley Place is fast becoming the first choice for customers seeking the best equipped construction team to renovate and/or enhance their property.
Managing Director Nick Cryer commented, “We are finding that more and more customers are seeing the benefit of bringing the Berkeley Place team in at the earliest stages of a potential project, often prior to property purchase and any discussions with planners and designers, where we can add significant lifestyle and monetary value. Customers regularly tell us they wish they had engaged with Berkeley Place sooner”.
