Personal Development In Senior House the Pastoral Team is highly experienced and well qualified. Led by our Senior Deputy Head, a team of Pastoral Heads of Year, Heads of Section, and Tutors, ensure that pupils are well supported and that there is someone for them to talk to if and when they need to. We have a School Nurse and First Aid officer on site and girls are supported by two school counsellors. Staff and members of Year 12 have been trained in Mental Health First Aid and they are able to support our students in maintaining their wellbeing. Our resilience programme, focusing on character strengths such as kindness, courage, and the benefits of displaying resilience in the face of challenge, also promotes positive mental health.

Leadership, scholarship & pupil voice Students assume leadership roles throughout the school from Digital Leaders, Subject Ambassadors, Mental Health Ambassadors, Diversity Champions and School Council Representatives to Prefects and the Head Girl Team. House Captains, sports team captains, and debating teams learn skills of collaboration, problem-solving, organisation and thinking quickly on one’s feet. They are excellent role models for our younger girls. Our scholarship programme enables girls to make further advances with their learning and to explore material and topics beyond the curriculum. We have scholars in Art, Music, Drama and Sport as well as a number of academic scholars in each year group. Sports Leaders enjoy organising and helping in sports lessons and fixtures. At St Mary’s each student finds her voice and every one is heard and valued.
