The Main Presidential Party Candidates of 2016 Isabella Smith and Gabby Rapoport get very detailed on explaining the 2016 presidential election.
T
his presidential election was, as some say, an “Election like no other”. The election happened on November 8th, on Tuesday and hosted a candidate that is a first for the United States: the Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton. If she became president, she would have been the first female president in U.S. history. She grew up in Chicago with a never-praising father and a straight-A brain. She is 69 and first ran for president in 2007. The other major candidate was Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who went on to win the election. He is 70 years old and grew up in New York. He first ran for president in 2000. Hillary Clinton didn’t have many opponents in the Democratic Party. There weren’t as many Democrats that wanted to be president and got endorsed by the Democrats. However, Donald Trump had many opponents, including Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush and John Kasich. Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton faced off since the spring. In the first debate Hillary Clinton won with 67% and Donald Trump with 27%. Clinton’s Vice President who ran alongside her is Tim Kane. Mr. Trump’s Vice president is Mike Pence.

Each of the 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia, has a certain amount of electoral college votes to award a candidate, based on the number of members of the Congress it has. This is roughly in line with each area’s population. Except for the states of Maine and Nebraska, the votes are given on a winnertakes-all basis. This year, Maine split its vote: 3 for Clinton, 1 for Trump. This system matters, as the popular vote is less important than the Electoral College vote. If Ms. Clinton’s campaign is buoyed by big Democratic states such as New York, New Jersey, Illinois, and California, these populous states could lead her to victory with their large number of Electoral College votes.
US Election Polls Polls are like virtual surveys. Polls specifically dedicated to the election often relate to issues being discussed in the election. One that was on TV: Do you think Russia is trying to influence the election? Both candidates suffer from unpopularity both within their own parties and among the public at large. Some of the bigger Republican figures refused to endorse Mr. Trump, while YouGov polling showed that just over half of Bernie Sanders’ supporters would back Hillary Clinton. New York Times and CBC News polling showed that both candidates’ popularity is limited by the public’s lack of trust with both candidates: just 33% of America felt that Hillary Clinton is honest and trustworthy, compared to 35% thought the same of Mr. Trump. 57% of people say they don’t share Hillary Clinton’s values, while the number is similarly high for Donald Trump, at 62%. Still, Hillary Clinton held a bigger demographic advantage over Donald Trump. A Washington post poll indicated that 69% of non-white men and women and 52% women favor Ms. Clinton, while 57% of white men and women supported Mr. Trump. 5

These are the results of an Every Kid Learns mock election for kids. In the red states, kids mostly voted for Donald Trump. In the blue states, kids mostly voted for Hillary Clinton. If there was a green state, that state’s kids mostly voted for Jill Stein. If there was a yellow state, it’s children mostly voted for Gary Johnson. Mr. Trump and Ms. Clinton are getting the majority in states. In total, 796,177 kids in America voted. Donald Trump got 171 electoral votes, Hillary Clinton got 367, Gary Johnson and Jill Stein don’t have any. To win the election you only need 270 electoral votes. Hillary Clinton, according to the kids, won the election. In the actual election, for a while, it was too close to call who would win. Eventually, the winner was Donald Trump with 278 electoral votes and Hillary Clinton with 209 electoral votes. More people voted for Hillary Clinton, but Donald Trump got more Electoral votes. Later on after the president was announced, Hillary Clinton had called to congratulate him. 6

Learn more about the unique staff of the 2016-2017 Gator Gazette in this article written by Ga bby Rapo port.

his year the staff of Gator Gazette, consisting of eight new fourth graders, three new fifth graders and one returning fifth grader, enthusiastically took on the challenging task of creating and presenting their articles in the Lower School newspaper. On the first Gator Gazette meeting, the new staff got together with Miss Adams, a fourth grade teacher, and began to plan out the Gator Gazette year. This is a little about the staff members of the Gator Gazette. Natalie Blake Grade: 4th Age: 9 Favorite Color: purple A little about me: “I have a sister named Norah, and I bike to school every day.” Katie Cook, Grade: 4th, Age: 9 Favorite Color: Pink (Sunset, but I like all shades) A little about me: “I love reading fantasy and historical fiction. I also love drawing, singing, dancing, playing soccer with my team the shocking ocelots of doom, acting, and playing piano. I am the middle child of my family; and have a younger brother named Aaron and an older sister named Lauren. I’ve been playing soccer for a long time. The Lower School Play Anna Morris and Delaney Moyer take you behind the scenes of the Lower School play, Peter Pan.
T
his year the LS play was Peter Pan. The play is about a boy that never wanted to grow up. The boy's name is Peter Pan. Peter Pan ran away to Neverland the day he was born. He is extremely adventurous. Peter Pan came up to the Darling family's window to listen to the stories the mother was telling so he could tell the Lost Children. When he went to hear the end of the story his shadow got cut off. When he returned to get his shadow he met a young girl named Wendy and her brothers Michael and John. They flew away to Neverland where they met the Lost Children.

STORKS Review Molly Mesec and Co oper W hittle recommended this fun movie for everyone!

et your tickets now to see the comedy STORKS! STORKS is a fun, silly, and hilarious animated action movie! The characters are: Orphan Tulip, who is an orphan that was never able to get to her family; Jr., who is a stork who dreams of being the boss of “Cornerstore.com”; the baby who has been created and needs to find her family (or, as J.r, calls the baby, “The Package”). There was also that funny time when the group got surrounded by a pack of wolves, the alpha wolf exclaimed, “Wolf pack!!! Form of submarine!” so the wolves formed into a submarine and chased the group underwater. As you can see, this movie is full of action and comedy. You have to head to the movies before the movie is gone! 18

AWS Lower School Racing Team

I
n previous years, LS Cross Country has been held. Cross-country races are with the organization called CYO (Christian Youth Organization). However now, crosscountry has been combined with swimming, biking and running. Now this is called Race Team.

The team is only Lower School. The CYO meets are still only cross-country, but mini-triathlons are held by Annie Wright Schools, and the only competitors are from Annie Wright. The hope is that other schools will join! The cross-country meets are separate from the mini-triathlons.

PRACTICE: The practices do not just cover running but also biking and swimming. Practice is held in different places depending on if you are swimming, biking or running. The running and biking practice is held in Garfield park. The swimming practice is held in the Annie Wright pool. Some of the coaches are Sabrina Seher, Mr. Matt and Coach Lawrence. CROSS-COUNTRY MEETS: The first one was on September 18th the second one was on October second and the third one was on October 9th. MINI TRIATHLONS: The triathlons occur in some of Garfield Park and some at the Tacoma Lawn & Tennis Club. The race starts in the pool. Then once you get out of the pool, you run to where your bikes are and you bike. Then you finish running. The courses are a little different depending on your heat. They do not divide the kids by age, but by heat. The heat is chosen by skill level and competition.
There is still an opportunity for you to join the racing team. There are different seasons! This is a great opportunity and you are welcome to it! 21

The players on the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers were LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Richard Jefferson, Dahntay Jones, James Jones, Kevin Love, Jared Cunningham, Matthew Dellavedova, Channing Frye, Joe Harris, Sasha Kaun, Jordan McRae, Timofey Mozgov, Iman Shumpert, JR Smith, Tristan Thompson, Anderson Varejao and Mo Williams.

LeBron James is one of the star players for the Cavaliers. Here is some information about his life before he became a famous basketball player. One Christmas Eve, when LeBron was asleep, his grandmother had a heart attack and did not survive. After that, things did not go so well for his family. There was a giant hole in the floor that got bigger by the day. Eventually, the city condemned the house, and the James family had to move. With only a single suitcase and his favorite blue stuffed elephant, LeBron and his mom left the only home he had ever known. When a kind neighbor offered Gloria, LeBron’s mom, and LeBron a place to sleep on her couch, it was a temporary solution to an immediate problem. They stayed on the neighbor’s couch for a few months. Then they stayed at a cousin’s place. They never imagined that they would spend six long years moving from one house or apartment to another. They stayed anywhere they were invited, until they wore out their welcome. They lived in one building that was so run-down, the city evicted everyone living there and tore it down. 22
