The Penguins led 7-6 late in the second quarter before the Nittany Lions scored 17 points in a span of 1:32 to seize control en route to a 44-14 win in front of 101,213 at Beaver Stadium. The biggest play was a 100-yard kickoff return for touchdown by Chaz Powell to start the third quarter. YSU took a 7-3 lead when Kurt Hess and Dominique Barnes connected on an 80-yard score 2:09 left in the first quarter. YSU picked up a 31-7 victory over the Bulldogs at Stambaugh Stadium. The Guins have now won 15 consecutive home openers. The Penguins broke open a 17-7 game against Butler late in the third quarter when Dominique Barnes returned a punt 86 yards for a touchdown. YSU took a 7-0 lead when Jordan Thompson scored his first career touchdown in the opening quarter. In the second, Adaris Bellamy’s first career score from five yards out increased the advantage to 14-0. Butler cut the deficit in half on a 3-yard pass from Andrew Huck to Jeff Larsen midway through the second quarter, but the Guins scored the final 17 points of the game. Stephen Blose kicked a 29-yard field goal just before halftime, Barnes scored on his punt return and Bellamy added a 25-yard score in the fourth quarter. The Penguins rushed for 286 yards, their most in a game since September 2008. Jamaine Cook led the way with 93 yards on 18 carries.
