Tight Ends First Year Duquesne, 1996

Ma Mauro Monz joined Head Coach Eric Wolford’s staff in March and will Eri coach the tight ends. Monz brings co 14 years of collegiate coaching experience to Youngstown. ex Monz, M who has two years of head coaching experience, has been an co assistant at Akron, Duquesne and as Robert Morris. He was the head Ro coach for two seasons (2003-04) co at West Virginia Tech Tech, an NAIA school iin Montgomery, W. Va. He was with Akron from 2006-09 moving from a director of football operations post to wide receivers coach his final three seasons. While with the Zips, Monz tutored five All-MAC wide receivers, including Jabari Arthur, who established an Akron single-season record for interceptions with 86 in 2007. Arthur had 1,171 yards and 10 touchdowns that campaign. Arthur ended his career as Akron’s all-time leader in both receptions (184) and receiving yards (2,653). In 2008, Monz helped in the development of Akron wide receiver Deryn Bowser, who had 64 receptions for 785 yards. Bowser signed as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Cardinals following his career with the Zips. During the 2009 campaign, Bowser coached the wide receivers for current YSU offensive coordinator Shane Montgomery. Most recently, he spent the 2010 campaign as a special offensive assistant at Robert Morris under Head Coach Joe Walton. The Colonials had a stellar season wining the Northeast Conference title and advancing to the FCS playoffs for the first time in school history. RMU averaged 28.5 points per contest and 358.3 yards a game. Seven times the Colonials scored at least 30 points and the offense scored 43 touchdowns in 12 games. Monz spent the 2005 season as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Duquesne for Head Coach Jerry Schmitt. DU averaged more than 26 points and over 300 yards a contest that season. The stint was his second with the Dukes as he served in the same positions during the 2001 and 2002 seasons. During his first two seasons with Duquesne, he helped the Dukes finish 12th and 11th at the FCS level in scoring offense. Prior to accepting his first assistant job at Duquesne, Monz served an stint as assistant recruiting coordinator at Pittsburgh, where he helped

the Panthers land a recruiting class ranked in the top 25 nationally, featuring Larry Fitzgerald and Tyler Palko. Before joining the staff at Pittsburgh, Monz served as quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator at Robert Morris where he was part of four Northeast Conference championship teams. In 1999, he served as quarterbacks and special teams coach for Team USA in the Team USA vs. Team Florida college all-star game. Monz was a first-team All-MAAC defensive back for the Dukes in 1994 and 1995 and was a member of DU’s first MAAC championship team in 1995. He finished his career second on DU’s all-time list with 12 interceptions. The Pittsburgh native earned his undergraduate degree in elementary education in the fall of 1996 and completed work on his masters degree in instructional leadership at RMU in 1999. Monz and his wife, Dana, have three children, daughter Dea and sons Dominic and Dylan.
