Introduction All of the covers for the digipack has a white background and has been given a redder tone of colour. This is to give it a more retro 60’s theme. This is because Indie rock has been described by some as being individual by looking at past trends, thus taking an independent approach to your own image. The reason why we are representing the album in a 60’s theme is because we want to demonstrate that the 60s was an era that inspired the band and in this was this is distinguishing them from other bands that have different or no clear influences at all. Also the 60s were a great period for all genres of music, and an affiliation may help to gain an interest in them.

The name of the band is cut short here; this is because when the audience opens the cover they see the other half on the name on the next cover. This again was another unique idea that may appeal more to the buyer. This is because it is an incentive to look through the digipack and see what else there is to see. The colour red is meant to represent their passion for music. Also the name of the album ‘Did I Say’ is at the bottom, coming up from the white part of the album. This may signify the coming up of the band and that this is their start. The actual name reflects on their debut single, which is quite common to name the album based on the debut album. This puts further emphasis on the song.
These sub‐images are here to give the audience more insight with the band as friends. This reflects their background as being friends from childhood. Also just shows them as ordinary people that would meet with friends and spend time with them in everyday local places. This creates a bond between audience and band. By representing them as friends and ordinary people, the audience will feel a sense of nostalgia to their own experiences when around friends. The main image here shows the band in quite a drawn away, dreamy state. This makes the audience stop and think what they are thinking about. The effect that this image aims to achieve is to make the audience think what the artists here are thinking about. The main idea is that they think about the actual music that they produce and the artists themselves. Here we tried being different. Most typical digipacks or jewel cases have the name of the tracks on the back. However aiming to be consistent with the 60’s theme, we put the tracks at the front. We did this so that the audience recognises the name of the songs straight away. The name of the band being repeated underneath emphasises their fame, that they are the new Indie Rock band. The record label album may remind the audience of possibly Hip Hop genre of music because on DJing. Overall the main purpose of the name and image is to remind the audience of modern music, to clearly show that the band is signed to a modern label that knows their demographic.

Here is the other half of the name of the band, however it is in the in the other main colour of the band. This is to break up the consistency of the colour red which is much centred on the band.
The main image here is of the lead singer Alex Johnson instantly indicates to the audience that he is very important to the band.
This white strip is to break the image in two and suggest that there’s two sides to him, maybe he’s not just your average lead singer of the band.

All of the images here are a reference to the band’s first music video and enhances the image because it shows them being a band, playing their instruments, which fits in with dyers theory of ‘star image coming from a range of materials’ .The images are in black and white to bring out the name on the album which is again in red which is the key colour that is associated with the band, but also the black and white adds this old school feel that fits in with the whole retro theme. Each image has a word from the name; however the last image of Luke and Abdul has a question mark. This is because it creates a sense of enigma about the band and the album.

This colour scheme in this cover is consistent with the front cover and its contrasting colours which stand out. The simplicity is effective and its also a ‘playful’ cover because its this idea of ‘now you see them, now you don’t’, which fits in nicely with the fun, cheeky image we’ve tried to create of the band.

This side of the album is where the audience would pull the CD from will first be able to get a short but detailed insight of the band. This is to help try creating a stronger relationship with the listener and the artist. The background image is simply just an electric guitar, which is a reference to music and one of the key instruments they use and is much related to the genre of the music.

The mise‐en‐scene represents individuality in‐between the group in terms of stance and clothing. This is to show how different the members of the group are without actually seeing them, but simply including their names. Overall it is still meant to tell the audience that they are chilled and relaxed which is quite related to Indie rock culture which is also based on individuality. The name of the band is again repeated, however in a more simplistic way, which matches the mise‐ en‐scene of the overall cover.
