MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDATION BOARD CHAIR

Eric Le Dain

The Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School Foundation (the “Foundation”), governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, was established as an independent charitable entity 22 years ago. The Foundation’s role has been to hold and steward the endowed funds and the building and land assets of Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School (“STS” or “the School”). Each year, the STS community generously donates to meet the School’s immediate needs. It continues to grow the endowments and maintain the building and land assets to serve the needs of students today and in the years to come.

4

2 022-2023 ST S F O U N DAT I O N AN N UAL R E PO RT

The STS community, including past and current parents and employees, students, alumni, and other supporters, donated $207,000 to the endowments/trust fund during the 2022-2023 fiscal year. Additionally, $29,943 was received by the Foundation from pledges made several years ago by donors in support of the facilities and other priorities of the Inspiring Possibilities campaign. Notably, at the end of 2022, a very generous anonymous donation by an STS family retired the residual debt incurred to build the Elementary and Fine Arts Wings. The Foundation granted $575,250 from the endowments/trust fund in 2022-2023 for scholarships, bursaries, and prizes, similar to the previous year. Per express donor wishes, an additional $18,000 was granted to support Health and Wellness initiatives. The sum of $593,250, together with an additional $52,640 from the School’s annual operating funds, for a total of $645,890, was used to support 118 students or roughly 16% of the student population. This level of financial assistance is meaningful and very much appreciated and contributes in part to bringing exceptional students to the School who might otherwise not be in a position to attend. This Report contains the Financial Position and Revenue and Expenses statements for the fiscal year ending August 31, 2023. The Foundation’s endowments portfolio value grew by 8% after fees

and before adding donations and netting out awards. Net of all fees, donations and awards made during the year, the endowed funds grew by approximately 4% to $11,171,500. TH E GENEROSITY OF OUR COM M UNI T Y IS RECOGNIZED AND VERY M UC H APPRECIATED. YOUR AN N UAL GI F T S , P LAN N ED GIFTS, AN D P ORTF OL I O RETURN S WILL CON TRIBUT E T O GROWIN G THE EN D OWED FUNDS H E L D IN TRUS T WITH IN TH E FLOURISH 2 0 3 1 TIMEFRAME UN TIL TH E EN D OWM E NT S CAN MEET ALL AN N UAL FIN A NC I A L ASS ISTAN CE N EED S WITH OUT DRA W I NG FROM THE SCHOOL’S AN N UA L OP ERATIN G FUN D S . The Foundation exists to support and help further the School’s strategies, including Flourish 2031. The Foundation recognizes the land and the buildings, the endowments, and the community of STS are each extraordinary, and we are committed to doing our part to help nurture, protect, and strengthen these assets for the benefit of today’s and tomorrow’s students.

Respectfully submitted,

Eric Le Dain STS FOUNDATION CHAIR

Atkinson S OCIETY 12

2 022-2023 ST S F O U N DAT I O N AN N UAL R E PO RT

Over the years, STS has benefited from the foresight and generosity of community members who have left a planned gift to our School. In fact, our current campus was seed funded through a $250,000 bequest from W.H. Atkinson in 1968. In tribute to this monumental gift in our School’s history (which today would be worth $16 million), we have named our planned giving program the Atkinson Society.

AT KIN S ON S O CI E TY

STS is grateful to the following donors who have supported the School through a planned gift (future and realized). The vision these donors bring to our School will benefit future generations of STS students. •
