NEWS OF THE WORLD LEADER IN ESSENTIAL OILS

Volume 4.6 | June 2014

A Growing Influence

At the Growth Conference 2014, Young Living was featured as a company that is getting it right!

Founder’s Message ARE YOU READY to dream? Are you ready to achieve and live your dreams? Now is the time! The 20th Anniversary International Grand Convention is FINALLY here! Later this month a record number of you, our amazing Young Living members, will converge on Salt Lake City and dare to dream big—I’m so excited! We will be elevated, motivated, and inspired to break out of the boxes we and society have built around us and get back to our real reality: that we can be whoever we choose to be, we can accomplish whatever we desire, and we can obtain anything for which we are willing to work. Before others started telling us “no” or “you can’t do that,” we were all so brave that we dared to dream. We wanted to be astronauts, allstars, rock stars, or doctors. We set our sights for the sky and believed we could be anything. We wanted to change the world. We were dreamers. Somewhere along the way, many of us lost sight of that and settled for something good instead of striving for something great. Over time, life lost its magic. Worse, some lost the personal belief that greatness is rightfully theirs. The good news? You can change your path today! Whatever it takes, come to the convention and let us help you find the magic again! We believe in you. We love you. We will support you as you build your dreams and consistently do the small and simple things that over time will lead you to the life you want to live. We are looking forward to seeing you at the biggest Young Living International Grand Convention in history!

“Ours is a story that’s been in the making for 20 years, and in our 20th year, we have found a way to multiply our growth times 12. That statement got everyone hooked for the rest of the talk.” –Travis Ogden, YL COO YOUNG LIVING’S SENSATIONAL growth in our 20th year is raising eyebrows throughout the direct-selling industry. Never has this been more apparent than in late April, when Travis Ogden, Young Living chief operating officer, represented the World Leader in Essential Oils® at the Growth Conference 2014 in Texas, an event focused on “uber-successful” network-marketing companies. “It was an honour and privilege to represent Young Living at this event,” said Travis. “To share the stage with top executives from the industry’s largest and fastest growing companies was humbling. However, given what Young Living COO Travis Ogden presenting at the Growth Conference 2014. we’ve accomplished with our members, we deserved to be there.” Travis spoke on Young Living’s totally unique story that began more than 20 years ago and on how we are experiencing growth that is 12 times greater than the old historical average—a number that really piqued the interest of many top executives. “Young Living has a unique story to tell, and in our 20th year, the story is being told on a bigger scale than ever before. Our story will continue to be told in bigger, bolder ways, as we fulfill Gary’s vision of taking Young Living oils into every home in the world,” said Travis. Travis joined 17 top executives and industry experts who shared advice and insights into finding the keys to exceptional, continuous growth.

Building Dreams Brick by Brick

brickyard at the farm. This is a perfect example of Young Living’s sustainability and self-sufficiency in action. With the start of a new school year, the academy is busy getting to know new, smiling faces: 18 new kindergarten students and 27 other new students, for a total of 222 YLA students! Of course, our new students will need sponsors. In order to make such donations easier, the foundation website is undergoing an upgrade and redesign. There is much to see, and we invite you to check it out at DGaryYoungFoundation.org.

New school building built with bricks from the brickyard at the Young Living farm.

THE D. GARY YOUNG Foundation has spent the past year raising the thousands of dollars needed to build a new school building for the influx of students at the popular Young Living Academy (YLA) in Ecuador. Thanks to many generous donors—along with the hard work of Gary Young and the YLA staff—first- and secondgrade students moved into the new building when school started in early May! This has been a special project throughout the construction process, because of what it means in the lives of those young students and because the school was built with bricks that came from the Young Living

DGYF Convention Fundraiser You can also support our important work by attending the D. Gary Young Foundation fundraising event, Walk a Mile for a Child, at this year’s International Grand Convention. We are anticipating a record number of participants for this monumental event. Together we are helping children fulfill their dreams! Visit DGaryYoungFoundation.org for more information.

Gary Young: A Somalian Adventure

This is part of an adventure series highlighting real events from Gary’s frankincense exploration in Somalia, written by Gary himself. THE FRANKINCENSE GROVES were only 5 or 6 kilometres away, and I was anxious to get there. When we left the village, we drove up through a wadi (valley) about 300 yards wide, and Boswellia carterii trees were growing up both sides. I gathered a little of the carterii resin, and then we drove down another wadi about 3 kilometres to see the Boswellia frereana trees. While we were driving that short distance, I was surprised to see a Commiphora gileadensis tree. Imagine, the Balm of Gilead growing right along with the frankincense trees! I was thrilled to see the frereana trees and bring home more information. There is so little published information about this species of frankincense, and no pictures seem to be accurate. I questioned those I met because I had been told that carterii grew in eastern Somalia and frereana grew in western Somalia. They laughed and told me that both species grow together in the same area. Neither of the trees grow in western Somalia. What I had been told was just misinformation made up by people who had never been to see the frankincense groves. One of the most amazing things I learned was that the carterii trees grow out of the dirt and the frereana trees grow out of the rocks, yet they can be growing practically side by side (although they were usually about 20 feet apart). It was a thrill to see and to finally know the truth. No more “other opinions” for me. Gathering the frereana resin is quite an arduous task. It takes a total of 12 bark-cuttings to finally be able to harvest the resin. The first three cuttings produce very little resin. Thereafter, with each cutting there is a little more resin. By the Gary Young researching a carterii tree in the Golis Mountains in northern Somalia. sixth cutting, the resin really starts to flow. By the eighth cutting, the volume of resin doubles and starts to turn to a slightly yellowish, opaque colour. On the 10th and 11th cuttings, the resin is highlighted with white stripes that, as they harden, look like snow on the ridges of the mountains. It’s an exquisite colour that is very different from the carterii and sacra resins. By the 12th cut, the resin is so voluminous that it runs down the entire length of the tree trunk. The colours are more luminescent and absolutely exquisite. Of all the many resins that I have seen, frereana is the most beautiful. I had one resin that was almost 21 inches long, but it broke in half during the trip home. Frereana is harvested only every other year in Somalia. Altogether, I collected about 70 pounds of resin that I brought home with me. That was just as exciting knowing that I would be able to distil both carterii and frereana resins in my lab and really see what the compounds and the compound ratios are in the pure oils of Somalia. I also brought home different grades of carterii and frereana so I could distil them and see the difference. In spite of all the difficulties of the travel and the anxieties of the unknown, the discoveries are like a lifetime of research being put into my hands. Gary Honored in Peru

DURING A FESTIVE reception in Peru in April, Young Living Founder and CEO D. Gary Young was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from the Universidad Nacional de la Amazonia Peruana. The event was filled with more than 200 dignitaries, including politicians, military leaders, professors, and Catholic Church officials. Yail Simon, Young Living general manager in Peru, accompanied Gary at the event. “Being awarded the honorary degree from such a prestigious university is a great, great honour,” said Gary. “I love the people of Peru! Young Living is excited about developing a new farm in Peru and about future opportunities with the university.” The honorary degree, the highest recognition that universities worldwide may grant, was given to Gary because of his many contributions, research, and studies that have a proven value to the people of Peru. The degree is given “in the name of the nation” and is approved by the Peruvian government. Through his relentless efforts, insatiable studies, and philanthropic ventures, Gary is fulfilling his lifelong commitment to helping people. page 2

JAPAN

We are going through a very active time in Japan. Dale Billeter, global trainer, recently visited four cities in Japan to train members about the compensation plan. Most attendees were quite new, and they quickly understood that Young Living’s compensation plan is easy to learn and that knowing the plan is very important for their success. Young Living Japan recently launched four new products: NingXia Red® singles, Lavender essential oil sample packs, the Home Diffuser, and the new Starter Kit. These items will help Japanese members share Young Living with even more people!

Anticipation for the International Grand Convention is building quickly, and we are looking forward to welcoming many European members to Salt Lake City. The 20 lucky winners of our Share to Win challenge have been confirmed; and with more than 100 registered attendees, we have a bigger-thanever group of European members attending this highlight of the year! All three harvest weeks were booked within a few days, and we are excited to welcome members from all over Europe and even a group from Asia eager to experience our Seed to Seal® process in the rolling hills of Provence. The UK grand opening has been announced for the weekend of September 20. Plan now to come celebrate with us!

CANADA

Young Living Canada is extremely excited for the upcoming International Grand Convention! The registrants from this market are nearly triple what they were last year, proving the excitement and growth experienced in Canada since the market opened in March 2013.

SOUTHEAST ASIA

May was a very exciting month for the region. Dale Billeter conducted product and compensation plan trainings in Singapore and in Kuala Lumpur and Penang, Malaysia. Iditarod Champions Powered by YLEO IN A PLACE where snow-capped mountains blend into the majestic sky and the towering spruce are as dense as the infinite stars, two-time Iditarod champion Mitch Seavey declares, “I want to win again.” This world-renowned Alaskan dog musher has an appetite for competition and an understanding of sled dog racing that is second to none. In a race known as the Last Great Race on Earth, the Iditarod is a test unrivaled, where Mitch and his team of dogs pursue victory for 9–15 days in a battle against relentless exhaustion and the stinging elements in remote Alaska. But as Mitch quickly points out, his skill is weak in comparison to that of the dogs he admires so much. “Our love and care for our dogs goes a lot deeper than most people realise,” said Mitch. “I’ve been around dogs so long, I’m sure I understand them better than I understand most people.” This family of champions is well known for their exceptional care of dogs and relies on Young Living essential oils to complement their meticulous care. “Our use of Young Living essential oils has definitely helped our team’s performance and given us a competitive advantage with our racing team,” said Mitch. “I love the way the dogs respond to the oils; it’s without prejudice or bias, and they just accept that the oils work.” page 4

For this year’s Iditarod race, Mitch and his wife, Janine, created their own “champion blend”—consisting of Valor®, White Angelica™, and Copaiba—with amazing results. “I put the champion blend on the dogs every day, and we had a rockin’ good time; the dogs seemed invincible.” As sleep deprivation and fatigue took over, Mitch turned to NingXia Nitro™. “One of the things I’ve noticed as compared to other energy drinks is that I’m able to stay awake, and yet when I have those precious 30 minutes to rest, I am able to sleep.” For this health-minded family, Young Living products are a way of life. “I think the oils help with the natural wellness that we have within us. They help us recognise our own abilities,” expresses Mitch. Watch for more from this inspiring Young Living family at the convention!
