Now You See It, Now You Don’t Players observe a number of objects and then try to identify ones secretly removed. Age Range: 4 to 12 Skill Used: memory Number of Players: 2 Noise Level: low Activity Level: low Materials: tray or large shallow box, 20

or more small common items, a piece of paper or fabric large enough to cover the tray or box, stopwatch or one-minute timer

Variations Place vocabulary words, math flash cards,

or similar groups of items on the tray or in the box rather than the small items. The first player puts the 10 items in a cloth

bag. Without looking, the second player feels them and/or counts them. The first player removes some items. The second player feels again and tells either how many items were removed or which items were removed.

Setup

Tip

Collect 20 or more small, common items.

Adjust the number of items initially placed

on the tray for the age level of the players.

How to Play The first player secretly chooses 10 of the small items and arranges them on the tray or in the box so they aren’t touching each other while the second player is turned away from the area of play. The paper or fabric cover is carefully placed over the chosen items. When the second player turns around, the cover is removed. That player has one minute to look at all of the items. Then the cover is replaced and the player turns away again. The first player secretively removes the cover and two of the items. The second player turns around and is given one minute to identify the items that were removed. If the items can be identified, that player is the winner. If the items can’t be identified, the first player is the winner. Strategy and Memory Games
