Dear Parents/Guardians,

This is a great summer to Discover Camp.

We appreciate your consideration in enrolling (or re-enrolling) your child in one or more of our YMCA Southcoast Day Camps for the summer of 2014. Y Day Camp offers children positive developmental experiences and encourages them to forge bonds with each other and with our staff, building confidence through skill-building activities suited to their age. Children experience a sense of achievement through opportunities in the outdoors and are welcomed to a physically and emotionally safe and stimulating environment whether it be in one of our full service Y facilities or at an outdoor day camp site.

Day campers are able to explore creativity, teamwork and leadership in a wide range of physically active programs that influence lifelong healthy living. They have the opportunity to enjoy an outdoor environment where they develop an appreciation of nature. Day camp builds an interest in community with experiences in local and global cultures where campers gain an appreciation for others different from themselves. Today, Day Camp is more vital than ever, with an increased emphasis on child safety, summer learning traditions, personal values and social skills.

As with any Y program, the purpose of Day Camp is to help youth grow spiritually, mentally, and physically. Day Camps give young people an experience that can last a lifetime and inspire them to continue an involvement with the Y for years to come.

Accreditation & Licensing

YMCA Southcoast day camps operate according to standards set forth by the American Camp Association (ACA). ACA ® accredits each of our day camp programs. The ACA believes “Camp gives kids a World of Good ” because camp is a building block to the successful development of young people. This independent body establishes standards for key aspects of camp operation, program quality, health and safety of campers. The ACA accreditation includes an on-site visitation every three years. Our partnership with ACA means we promote fun and learning in a safe environment. Our campers are staffed by counselors who are genuinely interested in working with children—certified in First Aid and CPR. Each staff member must pass a rigorous background check before they start working at camp. In addition, each camp complies with regulations of the Massachusetts Department of Health and local boards of health.

Y Summer Family Fun Membership Upgrade with Five Weeks of Summer Camp • Parents must register & pay for the five weeks of camp before June 30, 2014.

• Get member rates for summer programs for all family members.

Registration and Payment Information Registration Information

You may register in person during office hours. You can also fill out a registration packet and send it along with payment to the branch that you are planning to attend. You can download registration forms and any other necessary camp forms on our website at ymcasouthcoast.org. Early camper registration is strongly encouraged as space becomes limited. Contact the camp director for possible late season registrations and availability.

Required Forms

Please provide the camp with any information that will help give your child a positive camp experience.

• Health History – Every camper must have this form completed each year.

• Immunization Record – Every camper must have this form or equivalent signed by physician.

• Registration Form – Every camper must have this form signed by a parent/guardian.

Payment Plans & Options

Monthly payment plans are encouraged. Set your plan as early as January 2014 to allow for lower monthly payments. You may sign up for our biweekly or monthly electronic payment plan using your checking account or credit card. Contact the respective camp office for more information. Registrations will not be held past the due date without full payment. If the monthly or biweekly plans don’t meet your needs, we will work with you to arrange a plan that does.

Deposit Fee

A deposit fee of $50 per session, per child is required at the time of registration. The deposit fee is not refundable and cannot be transferred to other programs, persons or sessions. This deposit is applied toward your total camp fee.

Refunds and Withdrawals

A written two week notice is required to withdraw your child from camp. Tuition, less the $50 deposit, will be refunded if notice is received two weeks prior to your child’s camp session. Refunds after the start of the camp session are made only if the child has an illness or an injury requiring doctor’s care or a note from the physician stating that he/she is unable to participate in camp activities.

Photo Release

The Y uses photographs of program participants in its promotional and marketing materials. If you do not want your child to be photographed during camp, please indicate this on the back of the registration form.

Financial Assistance

If economic or other family circumstances prevent your child from participating in our camp, please fill out a financial assistance application and return it to the camp of your choice no later than May 31, 2014.

• All requests are confidential.

• All required documentation must accompany request.

• YMCA Southcoast welcomes all recipients of state vouchers and subsidy programs.

• Due to the number of campers who receive YCares financial assistance, we are only able to provide each child with up to two weeks of camp.

Multi-Child Discount Program

Available at Camp Massasoit, Metacomet, and Nep-In-Nae

This program is designed for families with two or more children. We thank you for your family’s commitment to our camps and want to pass the savings on to you. Families who receive financial aid or other subsidized funds are not eligible for this discount.

Camp Extended Care

Extended Care is available at Camps Frederick Douglass, Massasoit, Metacomet, and Nep-In-Nae. Morning care is available from 7:30–9:00 am and evening care is available from 4–5:30 pm. Supervision and limited activities will be provided.

Camp Frederick Douglass at the New Bedford YMCA The small, fun, nurturing environment of Camp Frederick Douglass allows each camper an opportunity to build self esteem and trusting relationships. Through programming that enriches the spirit, mind and body, the staff of Camp Douglass helps each child learn to develop their physical and social skills. The friendships that campers make here will last a lifetime. Camp Douglass offers unique programming in that campers ages 9-12 have the opportunity to choose a different specialty camp, week to week. This is a great chance for campers to explore and learn more about a specific game or skill. Camp Frederick Douglass operates according to the standards set forth by the American Camp Association and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Camp Massasoit at the Mattapoisett YMCA Located on the beautiful Mattapoisett Harbor, Camp Massasoit has a legacy and tradition as a premier summer camp experience. Since 1962 our camp has been developing and nurturing children into the future leaders of tomorrow.

Through traditional offerings such as archery, swimming, and boating to more unique programming like our challenge course with rockwall and zip line, sailing, sea kayaking, and dramatic arts, we nurture the potential of every camper.

In addition, our special theme weeks, theme days, camp songs, and funny skits create a camp spirit that few other day camp programs can match. Each camper is sure to develop new skills while making lifelong friendships.

Payment Due Dates Payment is due on or before the Thursday prior to the camp session start.

Payment Plan Option An automatic credit card or checking account payment plan is available. Please contact the camp for the appropriate paperwork.

Deposits, Payments, & Refund Policy A $50 deposit per session is required for each child due at the time of registration. This deposit is non-refundable.

If you must change your session, it will be changed subject to availability and at the discretion of the camp director. Requests for session changes should be submitted at least one week prior to the earliest session involved in the change.

Cancellations

Due to staffing issues we require a two week written notice prior to the start of the registered session for all cancellations. You will be refunded the camp fee, less the $50 non-refundable deposit. Please be advised that refunds take 2-3 weeks.

Financial Assistance

Applications are due no later than May 31, 2014 If economic or family circumstances prevent your child from participating in our programs, please contact the camp office for a financial aid application. Documentation of income is needed and all requests are kept confidential. Families that do not receive subsidies from other sources may apply for assistance for two weeks of camp only; due to the number of children in need.

PACE Vouchers

If you are eligible to receive funding through PACE Child Care Works, a PACE voucher is required to reserve a space for your child. If you have an approved voucher for camp you will be charged according to your parent fee amount. No deposit is necessary.

Please list anyone who is 18 or older that you would allow your child to be released to when it is time to pick them up from camp. Proper identification is required before a child will be released. This policy is strictly enforced.

Parent Agreement I have read and understand the payment and refund policies for the YMCA SOUTHCOAST Summer Day Camp Program. I give my child permission to participate in camp activities including, but not limited to ropes course programs, swimming lessons, basketball, soccer, tether ball, archery, arts & crafts, skateboard park, boating and walking field trips. I approve photos to be taken of my child for the use in Y marketing materials. I am aware that incomplete or unsigned registration forms will be returned to me for completion. I hereby give permission to the medical personnel selected by the camp director to act in the best interest of my child in the event of an emergency. Every effort will be made to contact the parent, guardian and emergency contacts.

In consideration of being allowed to participate in the activities and programs of the Y and to use its facilities, and equipment, in addition to any fee or charge, I do hereby waive, release, and forever discharge the Y and its officers, agents, employees, representatives, (collectively “the Y”), from any and all responsibilities and liability for injuries or damages to myself, including those caused by the negligent act or omission of the Y, or in any way arising out of our connected with my participation in any activity at the Y or the use of equipment at the Y. Camp Quequechan at the Fall River YMCA Join us for an exciting summer at the Fall River YMCA. Children who participate in our summer program have the opportunity to make new friends and share constructive experiences under the guidance of positive role models.

Children ages 11 to 14 will benefit from our Leadership In Training program that instills the Y core values of honesty, respect, responsibility and caring. They will have the opportunity to take on new responsibilities as they follow curriculum from the Y of the USA and participate in service learning projects.

If you’re concerned that your child might fall behind academically over the summer then our Bridge to Success session provides the opportunity to hone their educational skills outside of the traditional classroom by working in our community garden. Under the guidance of counselors with a background in elementary education, children will practice literacy, mathematics, science and social skills through hands-on outdoor activities. All campers participate in our aquatic program.

Camp Metacomet at the Dartmouth YMCA Located on a 58 acre ecological, diverse site including a working farm, hardwood forest, and rolling green fields, Camp Metacomet offers an ideal setting for sports, nature, and creative programming. Camp Metacomet has a rich history and tradition in the day camp experience.

From traditional offerings such as archery, sports, and our challenge course to more unique programs like our young farmers program, and photography camp—your child will surely learn new skills. All specialty camp participants develop unique skills through their program choice and benefit through traditional camp activities. In addition, our theme weeks and special events create a spirit that few other day camp programs can match. Each camper is sure to develop new skills while making lasting friendships that carry on throughout their lives. Kids have the opportunity to explore nature, find new talents, try new activities, gain independence, and make lasting friendships and memories. And of course, it’s fun too. In collaboration with ORCTV this experience is for campers 12-15 who are interested in exploring the world of video production. Campers will learn about story boarding, camera operation techniques and video editing. The final product will be a movie centering around the life at Camp Massasoit.

If you have the passion for the performing arts, this camp program will introduce campers to improvisation and role playing, while working towards an actual theatric performance. Campers of all experience levels are welcome.

In collaboration with the Buzzards Bay Coalition we provide an active nature camp focused on learning and stewardship. There will be plenty of hands-on exploration of the Mattapoisett River. Campers will hike, help clear trails, explore the woods, investigate the environment, and host a parent presentation. Field trips to the Y’s Rochester property on Snipatuit Pond is part of the program. Campers will boat, swim, and participate in some specialty activities.

Sailing

This camp is designed for the camper that loves sports.

Each week we will offer a different sport theme and focus on the essentials of that sport. Please see individual camp pages for the detailed themes.

Teen

M Traditional

This camp offers a unique blend of teamwork and selfreliance by teaching to all levels while focusing on safety, and general nautical knowledge. Campers will learn aboard Capri 14.2s and Optis. No prior sailing experience required.

Campers must be minnow level and/or pass swim test prior to enrollment. Swim tests are conducted at the Gleason, New Bedford, and Fall River branches.

Campers will be mentored by a specialist in these specialty areas: boating, ropes archery, dance and crafts. Campers will participate in each program area and then select the programs they wish to revisit. Responsibility, genuine relationships, teamwork, and leadership skills are nurtured through the use of daily team building activities.

Campers will experience a variety of camp activities which could include archery, crafts, sports, camp games, nature walks, dance, ropes challenge course and climbing tower. Swim lessons are given daily. Special events are planned each camp session and will be announced in the camper parent calendar.

Y Kids Got Talent

Campers will design their own showcase with their singing, Scamper D | G dancing and acting abilities This is a program for our youngest campers. Children will develop social and physical skills while making new friends Young Farmer D and becoming accustomed to camp life. Activities include Discover the Farm will look at daily swim, nature awareness, games, songs and arts & how fruits & vegetables grow crafts. Half or full day options available at Camp Metacomet. and how to create a garden.

Camp Nep-In-Nae offers half day option only.

Taste of Fields campers will learn to prepare and serve healthy snacks and meals using fresh produce.

Beyond the Farm Campers will work with volunteers on the farm and learn all about how they can make a difference!
