Y ardley Cattle Company Welcomes you to beautiful Beaver,Utah The eyes of the Breeder, the hands of the Master.....

D

ear Friends, fellow Cattlemen and Valued Customers,

Welcome

to our 37th annual Bred Cow and Heifer Sale. Our family sends greetings from the beautiful mountains of Southern Utah. It is the most exciting and rewarding time in history to be in the cattle business. We thought calves were high last year, but this year it is amazing that these light calves are bringing $3.50 lb. One word of advice from an old cowboy … with the extra money you are getting this year “pay off your debts”. We look forward to seeing you and hearing from you. The renewed prosperity in agriculture is the most promising part of our economy and is opening opportunity for all our younger generations to be involved in the industry we love and are so passionate about. We have something for everyone in this sale and our quality is as good as you will find anyplace in America. Our cattle have worked for thousands of others and they will work for you. Last year we had buyers from 19 states and Canada. From Pennsylvania and Michigan to California and Texas to Canada. These cattle are backed by many generations of highly productive cow families THAT HAVE STOOD THE TEST OF TIME. Our objective is the production of cattle that have a lasting economic significance and make a profit for our customers. THESE ARE NOT ORDINARY CATTLE. IF YOU WANT THE BEST WE HAVE THEM IN VOLUME . I am 81 years old and have spent my life breeding and selecting these cattle for PERFORMANCE, MATERNAL TRAITS AND EYE APPEALING LOOKS that you always enjoy seeing and they will top the market. Forty seven years of AIing and using the best bulls we can find, has produced one of Americas greatest cow herds. It is the mother cow that is the most important part of any operation. NO MACHINE CAN BEGIN TO COMPETE IN EFFICIENCY OR THE COST OF OPERATION WITH A GRAZING COW. Our cows are run on a grass and forage based operation the year around. Easy fleshing is a function of body type and not an EPD or any other number. Our cows are deep bodied, thick, square butted, easy fleshing, heavy muscled, gentle, maintain maternal strength, fertility and structural soundness. The true value of a beef cow is her ability to convert grass and forage into protein. These traits can best be analyzed by visual appraisal from the eyes of a stockman and assessed along with performance data. We analyze EPD’s but the main selection tool I have always used is individual performance: birth weights, weaning weights, and yearling weights plus eye appealing confirmation and good looks. This is a FAMILY OPERATION and I am very grateful for the love, hard work, help and interest of my wonderful wife and family. A good family is the greatest blessing anyone can have in life and we believe strongly that families can be eternal and forever with God in Heaven. This has been a very eventful

year for our family. We had two daughters get married and had a double wedding reception at the Barn Meadows Ranch. Emily married Weston Maxfield from Lyman, Wyoming and they are living there now. They are a cattle ranching family. Angela married Steve Barton from Cedar City, Utah and they are living there now. Steve graduated from Southern Utah University and plans to go into banking. Angela has been driving home this fall and helping us get ready for this sale, and Emily has come home several times to take cattle pictures for our sale. We are very grateful for the hard work and dedication of our wonderful men, Josue Garcia and Jose Guzman. They know how to do things right and the day never gets too long for them. WE LOVE AMERICA and feel very blessed to live in this great land. The standard of living we have been able to enjoy is the best the world has ever seen. We pray every day that we’ll get a conservative Congress elected this fall that can turn this country around and save it before it is too late. We’d like to extend our gratitude to all of our past customers and friends. We really appreciate your business and friendship. We appreciate your confidence in our cattle, our program and our family. We look forward to seeing you sale day and talking with you on the phone. GOD BLESS YOU and GOD BLESS AMERICA. Sincerely yours for a better cattle business.

You will pass our house 1/4 mile north of the highway, but continue one more mile to the barn. Renting the Land As shadow creep across the land And night is drawing near. I kneel upon the desert sands And toast the Lord sincere. For he provides me all I have A place to call my home. A place serene in beauty Where animals may roam. We share this place, the Lord and I Our Truce and unsigned pact. He lets me use it for a while But I’m to give it back. We carve a living from the land But promise to return, A better place than what we had We call that interest earned. So bear with me my noble friend Let conscience be your guide. And somewhere down that lonely path We’ll make that long trail ride.

Information TERMS & CONDITIONS

TERMS: No cattle will leave sale yards until full settlement has been made immediately after the sale. Payment terms are cash or a good check. All “returned” or insufficient checks will be immediately turned over to the District Attorney for immediate prosecution. This is a felony and charges will be filed. BIDDING: All animals will sell to the highest bidder. Any disputes or challenges regarding bids will be settled by the auctioneer whose decision will be final. RISK: All animals are at the owner’s risk prior to their sale and become the property of the buyer as soon as the animal is declared sold by the auctioneer at which time the buyer assumes all risk. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over any printed matter. BREEDING DATES: Heifers will start calving February 1st and cows February 20th. Most of the cows will calve in March with some April and a few into May. WE HAVE HIGHLIGHTED THE SIRE TO WHICH THE VETERINARIAN, TO THE BEST OF HIS ABILITY, HAS DETERMINED THE ANIMAL BRED TO. However, we cannot guarantee they will calve from this mating. HEALTH: Every animal in this sale, to the best of our knowledge, is healthy and eligible for interstate shipment. Cows were vaccinated last spring for IBR, P13, BVD, BRSV, Vibrio, 5-way lepto and trichomoniasis. The heifer calves have been fully vaccinated and boostered. All cows that have had calves are vaccinated in January with Scour Guard 4 and 8 Way. They just need a booster and the bred heifers should get two shots, three weeks apart before they

Absentee Bidding

calve. All Cattle have had Dectomax, and given OneShot Ultra 8. Calves have had two shots Bova Shield Gold and OneShot Ultra 8 BREEDING GUARANTEE: All females sold under the conditions “safe in calf” have been pregnancy checked by a licensed veterinarian and sell with no further guarantee. No guarantee is given that bred females will deliver a live calf. All heifer calves are guaranteed breeders. If the heifer failed to breed, we require a statement from the veterinarian who checked her, stating the problem and that the problem was not due to negligence or improper management, which will void the guarantee. This guarantee may be void if 1) a female is highly obese, has been shown extensively past July 1st and has not steadily been attempted to be bred and 2) if she is flushed at any time in the first year after the date of the sale. These two exemptions do not apply if the female is examined by our vet to have an underdeveloped reproductive tract that would have been present at the time she was sold. Infections or other enlargement do not constitute “undeveloped.” 100% of the purchase price less salvage value on heifer calves will be credited to the next sale. No other expenses occurred in the female will be reimbursed to the buyer. In cases where the animal is subject to hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques or damage caused by foreign bodies after the sale, this contract is null and void. The seller is not responsible for sickness not apparent at time of sale. It is useless to breed more than two heat cycles, artificially. If they haven’t settled artificially then, they must be put with a fertile bull for the summer. In no event will the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price, less salvage value. AI CERTIFICATE: The purchase of A.I. certif-

icates is the responsibility of the buyer, as well as, the registration of all calves born after sale day. REGISTRATION CERTIFICATES: Supplied on eligible animals upon request on the sales slip at time of settlement or within 20 days. Leave the name and address to which you would like purchases transferred on your sales slip. CONTRACT: The above Terms and Conditions of this sale shall constitute a contract between buyer and seller and be equally binding on both. Animals that are resold following the sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and obligations of the two parties connected there to are not covered by these Terms and Conditions. TRUCKING: All trucking, pricing and trucking fees are the responsibility of the buyer, but we will help you all we can with coordinating loads. LIABILITIES: Although accidents at livestock sales seldom occur, everyone attending this sale does so at their own risk. We try to keep the most accurate records possible and have bull tight fences, but once on a rare occasion, accidents of breeding occur that we are not aware of or cannot control. We will do everything we can to determine the correct parentage, but cannot guarantee it. The owners and employees of Yardley Cattle Co. assume no liability, legal or otherwise in the event of an accident, bodily injury, theft, error or omissions in catalogs or parentage verification. Cattle are kept in their own individual breeding groups until the first to mid July. Due to size and layout of the Forest permit it is necessary to mix breeding groups at that time. Only our own personal herd sires are taken on the mountain. Select groups of cattle will stay with one sire all summer long, but on the majority of late calving cows we cannot guarantee sire parentage unless a parentage identification test is ran. IGENITY labs runs this procedure for around $30.

If you are unable to attend the sale but would like to bid on the lots offered we encourage you to call prior to sale day. There are two ways to participate in the bidding if you are unable to attend the sale.

that will fit your program. Feel free to call anytime PRIOR to the sale. Sale days are crazy!! It is much easier for yourselves and for us if you are able to visit with us prior to the sale about certain lots. Gib: 435-310-0041, Steven: 435-310-1725, Jeannie: 435421-1200.

Pictured Cows!

Dad behind the scales

Weaning 2014some of our most cherished memories have happened in the corrals at Asay Creek. We’ve all grown accustomed to dad behind the scales, poking his head around to look at a “great one.” It is a favorite time of year and one we all try to make sure we are home for.

Checking the data

There are a lot of cows that are not pictured that are just as beautiful and productive as those pictured. We simply ran out of time! We take great pride in our “clean up” bulls, we call them our herd bulls. Many of them come from top herds across the Nation or are hand selected from our bull calves each year. We know their lineage for generations, we know how their mothers milk, what their body condition score is, what type of feet and udder quality they have, and we only use the best. Our bulls in the pasture are of equal or higher quality as those in the tank and we take pride in their genetic merit. Don’t hesitate to buy a female that is pasture bred!

Yardley Brandy brings “power in the blood” with her Irish Whiskey roots; with all the attributes that have made her grandsire and sire, Cerveza so popular. It’s not just her top side that brings this picture perfect heifer packed with power, eye appeal, style and structural soundness. She moves with the confidence of a winner, she’s good and she knows it. Her dam has been a no-miss momma that produced Fairy Dust Z113 in our ’12 Female sale. She went for $4,000 to showmen Randy and Troy Jones of Harrod, OH. Brandy is sure to be equally impressive. With a huge hip, big top, excellent side profile, width, and depth throughout in an extremely long body it’s easy to see why she had the highest weaning weight in our offering at 709#! She is a sound, moderate made powerhouse who has sold several calves for $4,000 to $8,000. Troy knew what he was doing when he crossed this fine female on the top end with Maine sire I-80. The result, Breezy, is nothing short of amazing. She draws on the best of both worlds. A11’s grand dam is the mother of Zion and is as pretty and prolific of a cow as we own. Her bull calves have averaged nearly $5,000. Furthermore her sire Longhaul produced our $20,000, ’14 high-selling bull, Overhaul, to renowned Wheatland Cattle Co. of Canada. His females are maturing into beautiful heifers, with the promise of being extremely versatile in the show ring and pasture. They possess maternal traits that are crucial to an efficient cow-calf program. AI’d to GCC Whizard, A11 has Donor potential and will produce many other donor-type females for years to come. The Miracle of Grass

“Grass is the forgiveness of nature, her constant benediction. Forest decay, harvest perish, flower vanish, but grass is immortal. Sown by the winds, by wandering birds, propagated by subtle agriculture of the elements which are its ministers and servants, it softens the outline of the world. It bears no blazonry of bloom to charm the senses with fragrances or splendor, but its homely hue is more enchanting than the lily or the rose. It yields no fruit on earth or air, and yet, should its harvest fail for a single year, famine would depopulate the world.” –John J. Ingalis, Kansas.

Here’s your chance at a great one. Y190’s dam sold as a feature in ’12 to astute cattleman Darrell Scott of Mapleton, IA for $11,500. Y190 just weaned a 748# WW bull calf. Powerful performance and looks to go with.

The Key to the Puzzle = Balance It’s the hardest thing to keep in the front of our minds. We always want to think that bigger is better, or we buy bulls based on spread EPD’s or we choose a bull because he has one trait that really stands our. We’ve all been guilty of it, but the real key is “balance,” the ones that do all things well. I really believe that this is one of the hardest, if not the hardest, hurdle in breeding cattle. If we can stay focused on this, it will make us more profitable and better cattle breeders.

Excerpts from the last letter of my uncle Gib-Died in WW1 in France

“…There are some things on earth worse than death and one of them is backing down when the other boys are giving their time and perhaps their lives for their country. Life to me is dear. I have a lot to live for but I always want to be able to say that I did my part, and I know that though it is costing us a lot you are thankful that I am here. Generations to come may not know of the humble soldiers who are fighting for liberty and peace but time will never erase the big thing (freedom) that these soldiers will bring to the world.” –Pvt. James G. Yardley, March 29, 1918. Taken from the last letter written by my Uncle Gib before he died and written to his loving parents. I was named after him; my dad idolized my Uncle Gib. James Gilbert “Gib” was able to meet his brother Jack who was serving an LDS mission in New York, just before he was shipped overseas to fight in WW1. He never made it back, he died Oct. 20, 1918 WWI, somewhere in France.

S37 has always been one of my favorite Angus cows on the ranch. She has the show style, hair and dimension of a high quality Maine Anjou in an Angus package. Her sire, WK Gunsmoke was the Reserve Champion bull in Denver several years back and has in turn been the sire of several winning individuals. We love the cows out of this outstanding individual. I believe a man’s greatest possession is his dignity and that no calling bestows this more abundantly than cattle ranching. I believe that ranching is the most honest and honorable way a man can spend his days on this earth. I believe ranching nurtures the close family ties that make life rich in ways money can’t buy. I believe ranching provides education for life and that no other occupation teaches so much in such a variety of ways. I believe that by my toil I am giving more to the world than I am taking from it, an honor that does not come to all men. The calves sired by High Regard are stout, cool made, and consistent. He is siring sale toppers across the country demanding as much as $75,000. Another daughter was just crowned Grand Champion at the prestigious and tough Simmental Junior Nationals, the American Royal and Denver. Whirl of a Dream was the pick of our Simmental bull calves several years ago. He’s big topped, large scrotaled, with bone and great muscle shape. His dam, B75, has been a top producer for us. She raised this calf at 17 years old, he weaned off at 712# with no creep and she was fat when she came home. A wise cattleman once told me if you love the cow, breed one of her sons and you’ll replicate her. There is performance with power in this pedigree. We couldn’t be more excited about his calf crop. They are functional, big ribbed, thick made cattle with performance. His bull calves last year averaged higher than any other sire group, averaging over $7,000.

He’s the type of bull that will add belly, rib, and doability, without taking pounds away from your bottom line.

Cowboys Thanks

I’m not so much myself, Lord, but here where I belong, My feelings fit the country, and my cowboy heart beats strong With thankfulness that your big sky can look down from above Most any day and find me glad I’m doing what I love: Just looking after cattle, independent as a king. Admiring snow in winter, smelling sagebrush in the spring. Among my many blessings I enjoy an honest pride In my own horse for partner everywhere I need to ride. I’m thankful that You let me live in this wide open land, To see the rainbows colors painted by Your loving hand. My life’s tied up with cattle, Lord—a hardy life but free, Where snow means grass next summer, and a man can plainly see Your handiwork on every side, My thanks Lord, are sincere, For friends, good grass, fat cattle, and a good ranch country. Dad put this in his first catalog 47 years ago
