Return to Nature

This document follows both a journey and a process. Begining with traveling to the isle of Orkney, picking a number of objects. Having done this, put the objects into groups and then break down the objects into fragments, This process raises questions about what things are. Having Broken shells into pieces is it still shell? If not, then at what point did the change occur and what has it become.

NE W BEGININGS

After returning from orkney, with my collection of materials, iron, clay, seaweed, glass, shells, and pot. I thought about transformation. Having moved from one place to another, from studio to workshop, i broke up the objects by crushing, sawing, and hammering. On completion, i asked the question, has the state of the materials found, been changed by the distructive process. Are these objects still what they were, iron, glass, seaweed, or shell? Has the process changed the nature of the object? This is a very difficult question, one that i feel unable to answer with any certainty.
