Swimming & Diving / Fall, 2013

COACH’S CORNER / DIVING Dear Alumni and Friends, The men’s and women’s diving program is going well so far this year. We have had scrimmages against UCONN, UVA, BC, Georgetown and Navy. All of this early competition keeps the practices honest and the athletes working towards their end season goals both individually and for the team. There are 4 men divers and 6 women divers. This is a good number of athletes to be working with. The team has really CHRIS BERGERE, DIVING COACH been getting the workouts completed in and out of the pool. The weight and strength training is going well along with our other training in trampoline, dry land somersaults, dry land skill movement and practice in the pool off the diving boards.

Our travel to Navy and Georgetown was fantastic. The weekend weather was absolutely gorgeous and we had many alumni and parents come out and support the team. There was good food, conversation and many laughs had by all after and during the competition. Having these experiences with each other throughout one’s swimming and diving career is so very important to keep us engaged in “the team.” We are the past, present and future all rolled into one. The Yale program exists because we make it so. It is a valuable learning experience that we hold dear. This program is yours. If you follow it, make it a point to get out to some of the meets. Watch the races and acrobatic dives. Smell the chlorine, feel the pool humidity, hear the cheering and I guarantee it will bring back memories you may have forgotten you had or at least stir the passion you once felt in the heat of completion. I feel both the men’s and women’s teams are off to a strong start. We can always use your support any way you can bring it. The athletes are really enjoying the many facets of a well-run athletic program. Bring on Columbia November 15 &16 to open the season in NYC. Go Bulldogs, Chris
