What was your dream job when you were studying? I always wanted to be a foreign correspondent. When I got my job in India just two years after graduating from City, I felt I’d achieved this dream. I enjoy discovering new places but also the challenge of trying to bring what’s happening far away closer to people. What has been the proudest moment of your career? It would be difficult to define it as a proud moment because of how horrific it was, but the Mumbai terror attacks were definitely the most important events of my career. The attacks were very close to where I live and work and many people I know were affected by them. It was a defining moment that I will still remember in ten years time.
Where would you like to be in 25 years? I still see myself writing. I really want to pass my knowledge on and help younger journalists to mature and get through difficult stories. What would you be if you weren’t a journalist? I was a professional football player between the ages of 14 and 18, but I realised I was never going to be quite good enough to play in the 2006 World Cup. So I decided to do something totally different. Coming to study in the UK was a big part of wanting to start completely afresh. Also, Italy (where I’m from) isn’t the best place to be when it comes to being a meritocracy.
