Alex Ashton

Alex Ashton As a painter and printmaker materials and medium interconnect to explore the immersive experience of place, the colour of memory and the mark of intention. Recent work has focused on gesture as a means of containing relational memories. The vitality of painting and drawing within the immersive environment provides a structure through which temporality is both experienced and explored. The work begins with drawing in the landscape – immersed in the feel and texture of a particular ‘place’. The sensory experiences combine, through the intentional gesture, in an attempt to capture the ‘essence’ of a particular moment in time.

Barry Back

Barry Back Before I even put brushes to canvas I always ask myself “what do I want to say about the subject that I have chosen to capture in paint”. I try to break down the essence of the landscape into simple shapes of line, colour, tone, etc. It is always about the light on the subject at any given time. I try not to copy nature as I see it but I take parts of it, abstract it and use my artistic interpretation to what I saw as an artist. My goals as an artist are to keep painting as long as my body will let me and to market my paintings to a wider audience so they too can appreciate them. 3 Solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions Features in Australian Artist magazine, The Outback Magazine T.V. Documentary, ABC Landline “Brushstrokes” The biggest impact on my career was when I started to exhibit, and exposure through different forms of media

Brad Barker

Brad Barker

I am a photographer who loves the water, it's colours, textures and variety. Water fascinates me especially how light plays with it, capturing it's beauty, form and reflections. The world holds many hidden wonders which I see as abstract images. My passion is using photography to experience as much of life as I can whether it be a bustling city in India or the remote desert outback of Australia. Being behind a camera is my way of connecting with the world and being inspired by my surroundings.

Liz Celegato

Liz Celegato

Liz is an emerging artist from North Brisbane. The style of her work tends to suggest a form of abstract expressionism where she attempts to capture images in a free-flowing, relaxed manner. Liz utilises colours, shapes and textures to produce a composition that is simple but pleasing to the eye.

Paul Davey

All my paintings have been created using the naturally occurring sands from around Australia. Using sand l am able to give a depth of expression and feeling that compliments the natural tones and colours from which these paintings were made. It is important to me that I create using only that which nature provides

Lindsay Ham

Lindsay Ham

I’ve been loving art & photography for the last 40 years & I’m mostly self-taught. Brought up in the country I learned to appreciate the beauty of nature in all its forms. My inspiration is drawn from the landscape & human form. I’ve been life drawing for the past 10 years, initially to become a better artist, but I soon realised it was a captivating subject, worthy of pursuing as an art form. The drawings in this exhibition are from that body of work.

With over 25 years of experience, he has completed numerous commissions for corporate, civic, residential and ecclesiastic clients. Employing the glass art of fusing, slumping, laminating, sandblasting and painting, his work now bridges the two worlds of traditional and contemporary glass. Having worked primarily within the Architectural Glass field, Christopher has only recently engaged with the exhibition glass studio movement and has now shown work at Kirra Galleries, Federation Square in Melbourne and the SOFA Glass Fair in Chicago.

Aileen Kumar

Aileen Kumar

Kiln formed glass is my passion. My journey into the world of glass began seven years ago, when I started incorporating glass into the jewellery I made. I now use glass to create much larger pieces. All of my work is created using a strip construction technique where I cut strips of glass no more than a centimetre wide to create the design. The colour in my surroundings inspires me to create art for the table and wearable art.

Josef Lanc

Josef Lanc My images are responses to many sources of inspiration. They respond to world events and/or “backyard” experiences. Sometimes they are inspired by pictures in newspapers, sometimes by masterpieces of great surrealist artists such as Magritte, Tanguy, Dali and similar. Some images are just reflections on m dreams and fairytale told by my grandmother. The computer as an artist’s tool allows for great experimentation where the results can be achieved in a relatively short time. This by no means simplifies the process but gives instantaneous preview of your work in progress. https://www.facebook.com/josef.lanc.56

Shar Moorman

Shar Moorman My works are divided into evaluation of two categories. One-off Works that are statement identifying with social and environmental issues, the recent discipline being inter-relationship with the real (visual) jettison into the whimsical fantasy of the Essence. The other aspect of my works include Architectural environment translated to suit personal and corporate ideologies for individual needs Permanent collections - Powerhouse Museum, Art Gallery Western Australia, Wagga Wagga Art Collection, Corning Museum Library USA. Commissioned includes Darling Harbour, Bicentennial project Canberra, Brisbane and Maroochy Shire Council, Lecturer - Sydney College of the Arts (1983-1988) University of Sydney, S.A. “Portcon Conference - Seattle, USA. http://www.sculpturedglassaustralia.com.au/index2.html

Cheryl McGannon

My recent work explores varying types of personalities and the relationships we cultivate in the workplace. Although there may not always be material similarities between the different projects I undertake they are linked by recurring formal concerns and through the subject matter. The subject matter of each body of work determines the materials and the forms of the work. Each project often consists of multiple works, often in a range of different media, grouped around specific themes and meanings. During research and production new areas of interest arise and lead to the next body of work

Cheryl McGannon

During my years as a teacher, I was asked to undertake numerous types of personality tests as part of the then TAFE professional development options, the results were to provide my Head of Department with an insight into where I may fit into their management staffing mix. This particular body of work relates to the D.O.P.E. (Dove, Owl, Peacock, Eagle test). The four basic personalities were assigned a bird image. My interpretations have been produced on ‘Silk Cut Lino’, hand painted with water colours and 22ct gold leaf applied to some areas.

Kelli McGregor

Kelli McGregor My work has evolved continuously, moving from expressionist figurative work through to a range of interpretive and semi realistic landscapes and seascapes I'm fascinated to see how people react to both their environment and with each other, so I try to express body language and mood rather than a realistic image. I want to capture the relationship we have with our natural environment. Some of my subject matter is about people's daily routines and is intended as a comment on community. Once you've created a picture, hopefully it can speak for itself.

Cathy McClelland Cathy McClelland is a contemporary realist, wildlife and landscape Australian artist, working in acrylic oils and mixed media. A member of the prestigious International Guild of Realism, Australian Guild of Realist Artists, Wildlife Art Society of Australasia and Queensland Wildlife Artist Society Inc. and is a globally collected painter with work in private and corporate collections Australia wide and worldwide. Cathy’s goal is to capture that fleeting moment in time that causes us to stop and pause from our busy day to appreciate nature and God’s beauty around us. She paint’s with honesty and integrity the subject of choice with a flowing composition that sits easy on the eye. She has a gift of portraying the essence of the place, "You feel like you can walk right into the painting" and she has a natural ability to see beyond the 'picturesque' beauty of a scene. She can also feel the spirit of the landscape and paints this feeling - an emotional response to the scene - rather than painting a literal depiction”. http://www.cathymcclelland.com.au/

Tony Mitchell

Tony Mitchell ‘Light means life’ It is what creates and constitutes the existence of all objects and intensifies objective experience. My art is about bringing light into the life of glass – so that the viewing experience of each work is always dynamic, always animated by the movement of light. The compositional simplicity I seek is a deliberate attempt to allow the properties and colours of the glass I use to speak for themselves. The colours and types of crystal I choose, the lines and angles in which they are cut, the nature of the surfaces, whether clear, polished, etched, or sandblasted are chosen so that each piece responds in its own way to the phenomena of light. Whether it’s the journey of the sun in the sky, or the placement of artificial light, move around the piece and the light always moves with you. No matter how often you look at my work, because light is ever changing, you will never see the same piece in the same way.”

Robin Seville

Robin Seville Robin Seville’s first love is stained glass and after studying in the USA she has been a full time practitioner for over 30 years. With her practice firmly based in the traditional, her personal and exhibition work is however abstract, works that challenge notions of the art of stained glass. As an architectural designer, she uses many techniques to seamlessly fulfill design briefs and has fulfilled many large and noteworthy commissions. Robins exhibition work is inspired by the natural environment, literature and often by the glass itself. “It’s also about the “dance.” When creativity, whimsy, your body and soul meet, when the work takes over completely and it becomes pure expression. A joyous place to be.”

Ruby Purple

Ruby Purple My influences are everything I see, feel and experience. Art allows me the pleasure of looking as an alternative to simply seeing. Each piece conveys a narrative by providing elements for the viewer to piece together. I enjoy the transformative relationship with each viewer taking away something a little different.

Daniel Romaine

Daniel Romaine Visions of landscapes appear to me in dots, sometimes they are familiar and other times they are unknown. It is as if my indigenous ancestors are creating the art through me. The visions of landscape are unpredictable and they stay with me – almost haunting me – until they are painted. My main influences come from the shapes, colours and textures of the landscapes. With every new painting I challenge myself to a more difficult use of technique to create an accurate representation of the landscape I see in my vision. I aspire to produce artworks that people look at and see the image as clearly as I do “Like a photo in the mind” and then feel the peaceful energy of the natural landscape that has been shaped by the elements over time'

Cosimo Ronconi

Cosimo Ronconi Cosimo has bee drawing all his life and started painting around 10 years ago, while holidaying in North Queensland. Cosimo’s parents are collectors of fine art and as a little boy they took him to auctions and churches as he grew up in Italy – so he is a Florentine artist who has come to Australia and developed his art He started working with the landscapes of Port Douglass, the colours of the reef, the sands and the beautiful blue of the waters. In the last few years he has taken to painting women inspired by their beauty and the feelings and emotions are represented in his paintings by the splashes and strokes of his brushes. He is inspired by the cosmic forces in the Universe and Greek Mythology, his imagery reflects these influences. Cosimo uses colours to evoke emotions in his work such as deep green to capture the sense of sadness. The relaxed Australian lifestyle compliments his search for inspiration and creative freedom.

Lisa Stamos

Lisa Stamos I feel a soul energy exists, a communication between humans & animals but we are often not listening, when aligned on the same level magic happens. Animals have helped me realise the natural balance in life. In my constant struggle for balance, I explore different mediums, animals, subjects, techniques & although simple, my quest to know pushes me forward to keep learning about this soulful never-ending journey we are all on. The things we cannot see or touch are what I paint to the world.
