News from Hay Cheese Market Building work on the Cheese Market has begun! This is an exciting landmark in the projects own history, since it has taken nearly six years of voluntary effort to reach this stage. From now on you will start to see the changes taking place. Scaffolding will be erected and repair work will begin – to the cracks in the walls, the roof and the gaps in the gable ends and so on. It is also when refurbishment will start to take place, in terms of removing the breezeblock toilet, reinstating the old iron railings and transforming the first floor into accommodation.
In the meantime we will try to cause minimal disruption. A few car parking spaces will be lost in the Memorial Square car park while the scaffolding is up and some of the trade pitches at Hay Market will be moved slightly in order to create space for the builders.
