There have been some recent staff changes here at Thunder Roads Magazine of Iowa. tt has stepped down as the Editor/Owner and is pursuing her nursing career as a traveling nurse. tt’s role on the magazine has been handed over to me. She will be missed by the Iowa Biker world, but she will more than likely be back around from time to time to visit. The magazine is continuing with the same direction that we began together, to be About Iowa, For Iowa, and From Iowa. The Thunder Roads Family is still dedicated to bring you the best Iowa Biker Magazine possible. Other changes are the newest folks to join the Thunder Roads Family; Bob, Dave, Marilee, and Eryka. The four join Murph and Annette, Craig and Lynnette, Mark, Susan, Harv and Sue, Netty, Nate, and Tony. All of them are from different parts of Iowa and bring a unique perspective to the Iowa Biker community. I would also like to thank them for being a part of our Thunder Roads Family, they help make this publication what it is, and I could not do it without them. Thanks to the Thunder Roads Family! Our distribution areas have also been greatly

expanding. Our goal is to get the whole state covered with more places to be able to pick up Iowa’s favorite biker mag! If you know of anywhere that would proudly distribute Thunder Roads, give one of the crew a holler or email us and we will see what we can do to get the mag in all the right places. The guaranteed spots to be able to pick up the magazine are of course the advertisers within the pages. The magazines are delivered to the advertisers first and then it can be found at other locations. If you cannot find it, shoot an email and we will let you know where it can be found in your area. We distribute the last week of the month for the next month’s edition, so you have to get in quick a lot of times to grab one before they are gone. When you are out and about in the latter parts if the riding season, don’t forget to frequent the supporters of Thunder Roads Magazine of Iowa. Without them we would not be able to bring you the Iowa content that you all have been asking for. Tell them you saw them on the pages of Thunder Roads! Ride and be safe, but always have fun, life is too short to not enjoy every day!

Memorial Day weekend is a busy time for everyone. Some have family commitments while others have graduations to attend. There are cemeteries to visit and loved ones to be honored. Parades and military ceremonies are held. And then there’s Conesville. Conesville, Iowa, home to the Circle of Pride MC’s annual Hog Wild Rodeo. If you don’t know where you’re going on Hwy 70, just north of Columbus Junction, just look for the two white pillars topped with gargoyles and the sign for Thirsty Camel. You might think, “This can’t be right! I’m driving down the middle of a field!” Then before you know it, there are signs of life - signs of a motorcycle party is more like it! The place might seem a little primitive at first glance, but the hosts have thought of everything. There are places to camp, shower, go to the bathroom, grab a cold drink or something to eat, vendors for shopping, stages for bands and other forms of entertainment, and of course, the infamous 1/8 mile drag strip. This year’s rally had several tribute bands for entertainment along with Cheryl the hypnotist. Back by popular demand were entertainers Rotten and Ross, Bob the Bull and the exotic pole dance show. With 3 stages for entertainment, plus the DJ who cranks out tunes all weekend at One Eyed Jacks, there is always something to do. If live music isn’t your thing, you can visit the vendors, stroll the grounds and look at the motorcycles, check out the bike show, or sit in the bleachers for some down-to-earth, serious drag racing. Once again, Motorcycle Specialty did a tremendous job organizing this race. Special thanks go out to F***man Charlie for his outstanding job emceeing the race. He fills in the time gaps with his unique and colorful commentary. On Sunday, rally attendees were treated to the annual motorcycle rodeo and contests. Participants are quick to share that it’s much harder than it looks to perform some of the “rodeo” tricks. Don’t miss the huge fall party, Thunder In The Sand, Labor Day weekend at Conesville! Hairball Does It Again! Memorial Day of 2012 and here we are again at Midway Tavern’s Annual Memorial Weekend Run/BBQ and Street Dance/Concert. Wow, what a title. It was every bit as big as the title, too! If you’ve never been to Soldier, you should definitely put it on your list of places to visit. While this is not a “Bike Rally”, it has in place everything required for one. There were plenty of vendors to browse and buy from. Of course Leather and Hawgs is right there in Soldier and you can bet I was in the shop breathing the leather aroma. Greg and Gerri were right there assisting the customers. Greg was actually out in the bike parking area helping a fellow figure out if the pack he wanted was what would work on his bike. Now that is service! Bloomy’s Boutique was open and had some great deals going on. Out on the square were more vendors such as, Big B’s with all his apparel and accessories, man he’s got a very cool pouch that I want and just never seem to see him when I have the duckets. Gonna have to save my pennies, I guess! If you couldn’t find something at Big B’s, there was a jewelry booth and more clothing and sunglasses and Kettle Korn and lots and lots of food and drink. Ghost Rider Ink was there and I saw many folks stopping and checking out their work. What more could a biker ask for? How about a Poker Run that’s all about being on the road, and raising money for charity? Two of a biker’s

stick, Reisz Farms had their booth with their Family Farm raised; all natural beef burgers and sirloin sandwiches. After that, you just have to visit the Kettle Korn booth brought out from Spencer by Gene. Now that you’re all done with the food, it’s time to get some tickets and have a few. The Pink Ladies were serving up just about anything you wanted to drink outside; and the lovely bartenders inside were supplying customers with the mixed stuff and more! Great service, wonderful smiles and the best attitudes! Wandering outside again, I go over to visit the folks from Carroll Cycle Center. They had plenty of t-shirts and other items for sale. They also had 2 new Harleys on display. His and Her models, pretty nice! 7:00 and it’s time for Poker Hand winners and the winner of the bike to be announced., even better, is when the winners from the Poker Run donate their money back to the Neal Denny Memorial. That is what topped my day. Now topping my night is getting my happy feet on, while listening to The Midnight Express Band. Gotta go, can’t take pictures and dance at the same time. Every year the Midway Tavern has the Neal Denney Memorial Poker Run on Sunday. A better venue for a Poker Run is pretty hard to find. The roads around Soldier are winding, curving roads that must have been created with biking in mind. The hills were green and the temperature was perfect. You could almost think you were flying, as you cruise the roadways out here. The stops on the Poker Run were just as friendly as could be and much fun was had by all. Once the riders started coming back to Soldier, things were in full swing. The Byron James Gang Band was playing and the food was cooking. Love all those smells. The local firefighters were there with a booth serving pork chops on a 16 - TRMI AUGUST 2012

CMA Notes

As I sit and write this we are in the grips of oppressive heat with wildfires burning all over the western states, terrorists are running many countries that used to be considered allies, the courts are making bone-headed decisions, gas prices have not come down to a reasonable level, and in general it is easy to be overwhelmed by all the negative things taking place. The old saying about the lunatics running the asylum comes to mind. The thing is, except for unpredictability and change, life holds few guarantees. I was thinking of that the other day and remembered a few years ago when we were riding to a rally with a large group of friends when a combine popped over the hill in front of us. Several riders had to take to the ditch and while we were exceptionally fortunate that things weren’t worse, there were still a few injuries, some of which will plague those involved for the rest of their lives. In an instant, things change and you then live with the results. Many of us have had or will have unpleasant ride events such as deer hits or accidents, loved ones with cancer, addictions and ruined relationships -you name it, life happens and too many of those events are bad things. But is this all we have to look forward to, a series of events, many negative, that shape and haunt us for 70 or 80some years and then you die?

Jesus says in the book of John to “Take heart for I have overcome the world” and that He will never leave us nor forsake us. Also, “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid”. We used to sing the old hymns about Jesus being the solid rock and the anchor that holds. In Hebrews the Bible tells us that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday today and forever.

Jesus made himself experience what we do, was tempted as we are, suffered the things of life as we do, and more. All this gives us the confidence to go to him in our times of trouble. He knows we are but dust and he can relate to what we are going through. I know that many of you are struggling with issues and the answer is in Christ. God satisfies the hungry soul and fills the hungry soul with goodness. Psalm 107:9. Hopefully by the time you read this the weather will have moderated and life will be good. Those who are heading to Sturgis, be safe and enjoy. We are looking forward to the rides in and around the Black Hills and the opportunity to see many friends we too seldom connect with. Blessings, Mark Mark and Karla Cornick are Area Reps with the Christian Motorcyclists Association. Find out more about CMA and God’s plan for you at www. cmausa.org.

There is something in all of us; that desire and need for that thing in life that is right, something that doesn’t change and something we can truly hold on to. Deep down we want to leave a positive legacy for our children and grandchildren. But what in life can we actually count on? 18 - TRMI AUGUST 2012

Road Ramblings random thoughts of a scooter tramp Being a biker in Iowa is one of the safest lifestyles you can live, as long as you leave the bike parked at home. If you take the bike out on the open road with plans of returning home, you quickly adapt to becoming the most defensive driver on the road. I have vanity names for a variety of people that I share the road with while riding. I am particularly fond of the people that I come up behind and immediately get put into a situation of having to decide which is safer, following them or passing them.

road in order to save a mailbox. It helps if your really good at mind reading too because the only hand signals the operator knows is a friendly wave. When I’m ready to take my chances at getting around “The Road Hog”, I blow my horn, flash my lights and pray that I am seen or heard by the operator as he bounces along in his air conditioned cab with his radio blaring the grain markets. I’ve heard the saying many times that the farmers think they own the roads. After safely and successfully passing “The Road Hog”, I get a big grin on my face just thinking No scooter trip in Iowa is complete without coming about how the farmers don’t own the roads; most of up behind at least one “Rubber Necker”. The typical them don’t even own “The Road Hog” the banks do. old guy driving along, sipping coffee and making sure that the vast crop land was planted with corn Then there are the “Diaper Slingers”, they are and beans again this year. He rides the shoulder, easy to spot, a single adult driver in the front seat, throwing up gravel and dust then corrects his driving the second adult riding in the back seat hovering by drifting across the center line at a reckless over a car seat. The more space being occupied speed of 30 mph. Do I pass or do I follow him and by car seats, the faster I decide to pass. I’ve be grateful that I am behind him instead of meeting swerved around a number diapers smeared into him as I count the number of times that he crosses the pavement or balled up lying in the road. I don’t the center line. I like to sneak up behind the “Rubber mind being nailed in the face by a June bug at 60 Necker” then lay on the horn and roar the pipes. This mph but a 10 pound dirty diaper tossed from a car usually gives his neck a stiffy and snaps him back window now that’s a whole different story. I like to into his own lane of traffic. So as I lay into the throttle believe, I have a 50/50 chance that if I become a to pass, his head and eyes are focused on the road victim of the “Diaper Slinger” it’s just going to be directly ahead of him. Just as I enter his newly found wet and soggy, a lot like riding in the rain. Since line of sight, I make sure he knows what I think of his they don’t call me Lucky and the odds indicate there driving as I give him the one finger wave. is a real stinky reason they don’t want to keep that thing in their vehicle, I surely don’t want to take it in It won’t be long before you come up behind the face while I’m riding mine. Think about that the “Blondie”. Typically a chic, using the review mirror next time you’re cruising down the highway having a to examine her make-up and hair while holding her good time enjoying the sunshine and wind trying to cell phone to her ear with one hand and punching decide, do I pass or do I follow. buttons on the GPS or radio with the other as she drives with her knees. I like to follow “Blondie” for Shifty LaRue a while, just in case she notices my ravishing good looks in her rearview mirror, becomes weak in the knees and crashes. I want to be the first one on the scene in case “Blondie” needs mouth to mouth or chest manipulations. Since making women weak in the knees is not my greatest asset, I get bored with the show rather quickly and just blow by her. I don’t even bother with the one finger wave she wouldn’t see it anyway. While rolling down the Iowa highways it is only a matter of time before you come up behind “The Road Hog”. An enormous piece of farm machinery crawling down the highway, with wheels running on the shoulder, it consumes its own lane, the center line and half of the on coming traffic lane. These are a little trickier to get past. Not only do I look ahead for oncoming traffic, up coming driveways, intersections, bridges and road kill, I also scan for upcoming obstacles that will cause “The Road Hog” to un-expectantly veer left, pushing a bike off the www.thunderroadsiowa.com

Algona, Iowa Freedom Park The 28th annual A.B.A.T.E. Freedom Rally was held at the Freedom Park in Algona, Iowa on July 5, 6, and 7. The weather was hotter than normal, but that did not stop bikers from having a great time. Some of the new things added to the park this year was a new state of the art first aid station and a new stone memorial. The first aid station offers three treatment bays and a four seat waiting area. It also has central air and updated first aid treatment facilities. The new memorial monument is located on the west end of vendor row. It was donated by Nunnikhoven Art Stone, http:// www.nunnikoveartstone.net/. When passing by this monument many bikers were observed taking a moment of silence to remember our lost brothers and sisters. There were a lot of things to do while at the rally including biker games, concerts and various contests. Each day there was a Share The Road presentation promoting motorcycle safety. New this year was a drive by shooting contest which involved the passenger or in some cases driver shooting paintballs at targets while moving down a designated course. There was a bike rodeo where a keg race, slow race, weenie bite, and other events were tried by skilled riders just out to have fun. The sled pulls drew a big crowd on Saturday as it became man and machine against the dirt digging sled that many love to watch. Seeing the determination on riders faces, as they will do about anything to go just a little farther. There were several concerts for the music lovers to partake in on various stages throughout the park. On Friday night The Kentucky Headhunters and Phil Vassar could be heard throughout the park, followed by an awesome fireworks display. On Saturday night Crow and Jackyl packed the main stage area rocking the park. Throughout the day at the Freedom Park, motorcyclists could be seen cruising the grounds, looking for old friends and making new ones. It was a hot weekend and everyone was doing their best to keep cool. They were thankful for all the shady areas around the grounds. Another way folks kept cool was bringing in blow up kiddie pools to sit in or water guns to shoot at motorcyclists as they go by, cooling them off. If you have not been to the Freedom Rally then you really should add it to your bucket list. There is something for every adult biker type to do and see. It is a great place to meet fellow bikers and make new friends. You can meet people from all over the Midwest and have an absolute blast celebrating one thing we all love: Freedom! Susan Hunter

TRMI AUGUST 2012 - 21

With all the heat that has been going on in the last month I’m sure everyone is trying to figure out how to stay cool. When your thinking about this don’t forget your ride’s temperature is extremely important. It likes to stay cool too and will perform better if you do so. One of the simplest and probably most common ways of dropping a few degrees is changing your oil over to HarleyDavidson Syn3. Syn3 is a synthetic engine, primary and transmission oil made by Harley-Davidson. A few of the many benefits of Syn3; it offers superior protection at higher temperatures, meets the anti-wear lubricity requirements for all transmission gears, and provides long term protection. Syn3 disperses the heat made by your engine and can drop engine temp up to 30 degrees. Not only will your engine run cooler but also cleaner and if you change your transmission and primary oil over to Syn3 also. You will also notice an improvement in overall ride quality. If you’re not into changing over to synthetic or have done so already just want to add a little more cooling efficiency then an oil cooler would be your next step. With Harley now putting oil coolers standard on 2011 and newer baggers with the 103 ci motor; many of you will not have to worry about it. For those of you riding a bit more experienced bike (aka older) or a smaller cruiser like me, there are many variations of oil coolers out on the market. Harley has a few options

available for most 04’ and newer rides for around $300. The newest one to the market, which I think is the best, is the new Jagg Low Mount Fan-Assisted Oil Cooler for 99’ and up Baggers. Now if you think about it an oil cooler only does you good when you are going down the road and air has a chance to circulate through the fins and cool the oil. I can’t tell you how many people come in and want an oil cooler just before Sturgis with the reasoning “It gets so hot when you’re riding through traffic in DOWNTOWN Sturgis that I know I need to cool the motor”. This may be true but an oil cooler won’t do you or the bike any good when you’re sitting still moving maybe a maximum of 5 mph down the street. Jagg has fixed this problem by affixing a small sealed motor fan, very similar to cooling fans found in cars. This fan turns on at 205 degrees and pulls a full 150 cfm of air across the cooler. If you don’t have a bagger don’t be too worried they still offer 6 and 10 row oil coolers for just about all Harleys 84’ and newer. Jagg’s oil coolers run from just under $300 to around the $550 mark depending on what you are after. Harley also offers a fan kit for most ’97-newer Touring models that mounts on the left side of the motor where your horn currently is and relocates your horn. The fan kit will drop your engine oil temp up to 20 degrees and works great for parades and that troublesome Sturgis traffic. The kit comes complete with a chrome cover with the Bar & Shield logo located in the center. Not many people would even notice that it’s a fan. Last thing I will cover is something that I, as a parts salesman, shouldn’t say but I would rather be honest. In this extreme kind of heat I recommend removing any chrome oil cooler or voltage regulator cover that you may have installed on your bike. Most of the time you would be perfectly fine with them on but if you are going on what could be hot rides just remove it. Having that little bit of chrome is not worth a new voltage regulator or a new motor. With the heat this year so far we have seen a record number of voltage regulators drop and not just because of the recent recall on them. With the sun shining this summer there has been lots of riding opportunities. We have also had record hot temperatures, remember when you are on the road, stay hydrated, aware and watch those engine temperatures. Ride safe, ride often, and stay cool. Tony Darveau

3825 N.W. 121st Street Urbandale, IA 50323 515-270-0022 Tues - Thurs: 11AM - 9PM, Fri: 11AM - 10PM Buffet 11AM - 2PM, Sat: 4:30PM - 10PM, Sun: Brunch 10:30AM - 3PM Dinner 3PM - 8:30PM Mon: Closed

It’s Thursday night, Lynnette and I have just finished one of our “fly to Des Moines and get supplies for the store” runs and I’m getting ready to head to my motel for the night. Yet another of my hobbies lands me in a motel for a couple of nights once a month from May through September. I’m an infield medcart medic at the Iowa Speedway. If you’re out to a race and make it to the Fan Walk look for the overgrown golf carts with the blue light on top. Holler out something like “I love Will Ride To Eat!” and if I can I’ll come over and thank you personally for reading Thunder Roads Iowa Magazine! We had decided to check out somewhere to eat for a possible review earlier that day and had decided that Italian sounded good. I pulled out my list of reader suggestions (and you guys didn’t think I paid attention! Every suggestion gets put on the list that goes with me everywhere so be patient... you never know when we’ll be near you!) Presto, Mama Lacona’s fits the bill!!! Mama Lacona’s location is somewhat hidden but still easily accessible. It’s located at the south end of the strip mall west of the Pilot truck stop just off of Douglas Avenue. There is easy access through the Kum&Go lot to the ample parking area. Once inside we were met by our waitress and seated without waiting. The menu was amazingly diverse with something for everyone. The list of choices includes everything from appetizers to desserts; soup and salad, specialty salads, sandwiches, pizza, pasta, casseroles, seafood, grilled items (including BBQ), and chicken. They also have a senior menu and a children’s menu (see, something for everyone!). While we were perusing the menu our waitress brought our bread basket which included a variety of breads baked fresh on location, all of which were delicious I might add! We decided to have the Trio Sampler Platter for our appetizer. The appetizer was all we expected and more. However, I must warn you 28 - TRMI AUGUST 2012

that, depending on your appetite, this may be an appetizer OR main course decision! There is ALOT of food here!!!! The onion rings were awesome, the crab stuffed mushrooms floating in a small boat of butter were scrumptious, but my personal favorites on the platter were the brushetta (small bread sticks covered with diced tomato, basil and a mozzarella ball, with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar over it, WOW!!!)! After plowing through the appetizers I wasn’t exactly sure I needed the main course but, hey, I have a reputation to uphold!!!! For the main course, Lynnette decided on Scallop Spedino and I chose Spaghetti with Graziano Italian Sausage Sauce. My spaghetti arrived and, man, was I glad I had resolved to finish it because it was spectacular right down to the last bite!!! I took a risk on ordering the sausage sauce since I usually go for a nice tomato sauce on my spaghetti with some meatballs thrown in but, this was a choice I WILL make again! The sausage sauce had just the right touch of “bite”, not overpowering but extremely complimentary to the smooth, soft pasta strings. Lynnette described her scallops as delicious and the REAL potatoes with garlic (which I too got to sample) were awesome! As if the great food wasn’t enough... you’re not tied down to eating in. I saw several people come in and get to-go orders. They also have banquet rooms available and they cater as well! Check out their menu and all the options online at www.mamalacona.com. Mama Lacona’s... you can never go wrong at Mama’s place!!!!!! Until next month, ride safe and eat hearty! From the Woman’s Seat

Passion to ride and make new friends, I’ve got to say that came straight from my late husband, who had plenty of both, but after a 15 month battle fighting pancreatic cancer, he went home in August 2011 to ride with the angels, where I’m sure his passion to ride and make new friends will go on for eternity with the Lord’s Amazing Grace.

and winter have come and gone, spring is here and my riding has improved. I try to ride as often as possible. I am enrolled in a motorcycle rider’s education class. I plan to graduate as the valedictorian of the class then move on to an official license.

I just had my golden birthday, born in ‘56, you figure it out. A passionate woman never tells her age. An important event to me was riding in the first motorcycle ride for Relay for Life in Cass County. As the riders met and registered the local newspaper was taking pictures and the radio station was doing some interviews. My son and I were both interviewed and Vernon from Thunder Roads Magazine was there to ride with us. There were survivors riding, families of those fighting the battle and riders remembering their loved ones. I was lucky to have my son, father in law, his friend, my nephew and his daughter all riding with me. The rest of my family was remembering my late husband that day; last year we rode the bike to the relay so he could walk the first lap, the survivor lap. A year later, I’m riding the bike solo in the first Motorcycle Event for Relay for Life. There were some tears along The first thing we did was lower the handlebars and the way, many hugs and people sharing memories. But we rode with joy in our hearts knowing we were adjust the gear shifter, because hey my husband raising money to help find a cure for this terrible was a lot taller than me. I was hesitant at first to make any adjustments to my husband’s bike, but my illness, cancer. Wow, it was a very emotional ride, but friends convinced me it would be a good thing to do. I was riding with passion and good friends. They knew I really wanted to take over the rider’s Shirley Brown passion and I was determined to keep the Heritage alive and running down the open highway. The following week, since I was still off work, I thought if I’m going to ride I better get legal. So, I studied for the riders permit one night and went the next day and passed the test. Awesome, I couldn’t quit smiling. The first thing I had to do was tell my 2 sons what I had done. They were both so proud of their mother, they knew about my passion and how much riding with friends would help brighten my new journey in life. I’m actually able to ride legal and insured with my friends now. So my passion to ride had always been in the passenger seat. I did ride motorcycles growing up as a kid but not an 840 pound Heritage Softail Classic. I lost my love, but I still had the passion to ride, it’s like a freedom, stress reliever, out on the road with no worries and spending time with good friends. So what is woman to do? Friday was a standing room only funeral and when Sunday came, I told myself, if I could back it up and head it out of the garage doors, I could ride it. So guess what I did. Down the road I went, trying to unleash the stress. I rode to a good friend’s house. They were standing outside when I pulled in. I’ll never forget the look on their faces, they couldn’t believe it, I really couldn’t either, but its true and I had just made my first ride in the driver’s seat.

Since then, fall 38 - TRMI AUGUST 2012

A couple made a deal that whoever died first would come back and inform the other if there is sex after death. Their biggest fear was that there was no after-life at all. After 70 loving years together, Bob was the first to die. True to his word, he made the first contact: “Marion . . . Marion.” “Is that you, Bob?” Marion sat straight up in bed one night. “Yes, darling, I’ve come back like we agreed.””That’s wonderful! What’s it like where you are at?” “Well, I get up in the morning, I have sex. I have breakfast and then it’s off to the golf course for play and salad. I have sex again, bathe in the warm sun and then have sex a couple of more times. Then I have lunch (you’d be proud of me Marion. I am eating lots of greens like you always got onto me about. Another romp around the golf course, then I pretty much have sex the rest of the afternoon. After supper, it’s back to the golf course again. Then it’s more sex until late at night. I catch some much needed and deserved sleep and then the next day it starts all over again.”It’s an amazing life! “Oh, Bob, then you truly are in Heaven, sweetheart?” “No Marion, . . .apparently I’m a rabbit in Florida!

A new Army Captain was assigned to an outfit in a remote post in the Afghan Desert. During his first inspection of the outfit, he noticed a camel hitched up behind the mess tent. He asked the Sergeant why the camel was kept there. The nervous sergeant said, ‘Sir, as you know, there are 250 men here on the post and no women. Sometimes the men have urges. That’s why we have Molly The Camel. The Captain said, ‘I can’t say that I condone this, but I can understand about the ‘urges’, so the camel can stay.’ Several months later, the Captain starts having his own ‘urges’. Crazed with passion, he asked the Sergeant to bring the camel to his tent. Putting a ladder behind the camel, the Captain stands on the ladder, pulls his pants down and makes passionate love to the camel. When he’s done, he asked the Sergeant, ‘Is that how the men do it?’ ‘No sir. They usually just ride the camel into town. That’s where the girls are.”

During a recent password audit by a company, it was found that an employee was using the following password:”Mick eyMinniePlutoHueyLouieDeweyDonaldGoofySacramento” When asked why she had such a long password, she rolled her eyes and said: ”Hello! It has to be at least 8 characters long and include at least one capital.” After becoming very frustrated with the attitude of one of the shopkeepers, the young blonde declared, ‘Well, then, maybe I’ll just go out and catch my own alligator and get a pair of alligator shoes for free!’ The shopkeeper replied with a sly smile, ‘Well, little lady, why don’t you go give it a try?’ The blonde headed off to the swamp, determined to catch an alligator. Later in the day, the shopkeeper was driving home, and spotted the young woman standing waist deep in the murky water, shotgun in hand. He saw a huge 9-foot gator swimming rapidly toward her. With lightning reflexes, the blond took aim, shot the creature and hauled it up onto the slippery bank. Nearby were 7 more dead gators all lying belly up. The shopkeeper watched in amazement as the The blond struggled with the gator. Then, rolling her eyes, she screamed in frustration... Damn! This ones’ barefoot too!

Joey was in Starbuck`s recently when he suddenly realized he desperately needed to fart. The music was really loud so he timed his farts with the beat of the music. After a couple of songs he started to feel better. He finished my coffee and noticed that everyone was staring at him, and suddenly he remembered…. he was listening to his iPod.”

A 6 year old and a 4 year old are raking the yard. The 6 year old asks, “You know what? I think it’s about time we started learning to cuss.” The 4 year old nods his head in approval. The 6 year old continues,” When we go in for breakfast, I’m gonna’ say something with hell and you say something with ass.” The 4 year old agrees with enthusiasm. When the mother walks into the kitchen and asks the 6 year old what he wants for breakfast, he replies, “Aw, hell, Mom, I guess I’ll just have some Cheerios. Thump! upside the head. He runs upstairs with Mom in hot pursuit. His Mom locks him in his room and shouts, “You can stay there until you learn some manners”. She then comes back downstairs, looks at the 4 year old and asks with a stern voice, “And what do YOU want for breakfast, young man?” “I don’t know Mom,” he blubbers, “but you can bet your fat ass it won’t be Cheerios!”

C.O.I.R. Report Coalition of Independent Riders THE GUY GOIN’ THE OTHER WAY Peter Sieben, Lt Commander C.O.I.R. of Iowa Legislative Officer District 20 ABATE of Iowa You’re on your way home from wherever, you know, some party or maybe a rally. Everything you’ve got for going to an event is tied onto your machine. You and ‘everybody else’ are on your way home and all of a sudden you see some other guy going the other way. Who is this guy going the other way? Where has he been, and where is he going now? I used to think about that, but I’ve realized that I’m the guy going the other way. July 4th weekend most bikers were on their way home from Algona Freedom Rally. My crew and I were the guys going the other way. Don’t get me wrong, ABATE of Iowa does a great job - please continue to support them. However, my friends and I went for a tour of Michigan. In case you didn’t know, you can now ride your motorcycle in Michigan and choose whether or not you want to wear a helmet. Wow – Fantastic job ABATE of Michigan! We left Wednesday July 4th from Sioux City and landed in Ellsworth, Wisconsin at my buddy’s house for the evening. Kelly is a righteous, stand on your own kind of guy so needless to say, a good time was had by all. The next night we spent in Marquette, Michigan. Day 3 we crossed the Mackinaw Bridge and ended up in Ludington, Michigan on the shore of Lake Michigan. We ferried our motorcycles across Lake Michigan the next morning. Word to the wise, bring tie down straps and money. This isn’t cheap but it saves you from having to ride through Chicago. Starting from Manitowoc, Wisconsin at 12:30 after departing the ferry we looked at the map and selected a path: all 2 lane roads. To those not in the know, Wisconsin has some of the best riding roads to be found anywhere. From there we put in 500 miles and landed in Mason City, Iowa. The next day it was a short path arriving home at about 2:00pm. What struck me most is, Wow – this is a beautiful country. Get out and have a look. Also, if you stop looking out for me and give me back my right to make my own decisions then I will come and visit your state and spend some money. Believe me; it ain’t gonna happen any other way. I’m all about liberty, freedom and the American way. I want the U.S. Constitution to be the rule book, like it’s supposed to be. Sometimes each of us is the guy going the other way. At least I hope so. It’s time to stand up for what you think and how you live. In this, an election year, each of us has the responsibility to check out the folks who are running to represent us. This is very important stuff. Do your job – find out and help out the right candidate. You’ve gotta put some in to get some out. Wanna talk about it? Shoot me an email; peter@ riderpromotions.com
