INTO THE EYE OF THE
Stepping out onto the moist boat deck, the glitter of the Pacific Ocean’s waves looked like a pool of diamonds. It had taken us nearly a full day boat ride to come to rest off the coast of Guadalupe Island where the elephant seals come to birth their young. The thrill of excitement took over my body, tinged with a bit of fear, for I knew what creatures lurked in these waters…and I was there to meet them.
