Truck Bryant scored 25 points and Kevin Jones added 22 points and 16 rebounds to lead West Virginia to a 74-62 victory over ninth-rated Georgetownat the WVU Coliseum. The Hoyas (13-2, 3-1) didn’t have an answer for Bryant, who made seven field goals and was 9 for 11 from the lie, or Jones, who was 8 for 12 from the floor and went 5 for 6 from the line. Speaking of free throw shooting, West Virginia was 10 for 10 coming down the stretch and finished the game making 22 of 31. The Mountaineers also shot the ball well from the floor, hitting 24 of 48 for 50 percent. It is the second straight game West Virginia has shot better than 50 percent after its poorest offensive performance of the year at Seton Hall back on Dec. 30. There were seven ties, the latest coming with 16:42 to go in the second half before the Mountaineers started asserting themselves. A Bryant layup and a Jones 3 from the top of the key pushed West Virginia’s lead out to seven, 44-37, and it eventually grew to 11 with 6:38 to go on another 3 by Bryant. A pair of Bryant free throws with 4:36 remaining gave West Virginia its biggest lead of the game at 13, 62-49. West Virginia turnovers enabled the Hoyas to close to with four, 62-58, following Otto Porter’s driving layup, but freshman Gary Browne was able to break Georgetown’s press and covert a twisting left handed layup with 2:12 to go to make it 64-58. Then two Bryant free throws pushed the lead back to eight. Georgetown, which overcame a 17-point second half deficit against Marquette in its last game by forcing turnovers and making 3s, hit just 2 of 14 from behind the arc. Overall, the Hoyas shot just 40.4 percent from the floor and were beat on the glass, 37-31. Hollis Thompson led Georgetown with 20 points, while Henry Sims and Jason Clark added 10 each. Sims and Nate Lubick fouled out Browne came off the bench to score 12 for West Virginia.
Notebook
• The victory was Coach Bob Huggins’ seventh over a Top 10-ranked team in the last three-plus seasons at West Virginia and his fifth straight over the Hoyas, which came into Morgantown riding a season long 11-game winning streak.
Recap
Jeremy Lamb scored 25 points and freshman Andre Drummond added 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead No. 17/16 Connecticut to a 64-57 victory over West Virginia at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. It was Lamb and Drummond who came to the rescue when Connecticut was trailing the Mountaineers by 10, 46-36, midway through the second half. Lamb scored 13 of his game-high 25 down the stretch while Drummond added 9 as UConn outscored West Virginia 28-11 over the remaining 11 minutes of the game. Kevin Jones led West Virginia with 22 points. The Mountaineers’ other big gun, Truck Bryant, had a tough night shooting, going 2 for 13, and finishing with just 8 points 10 below his season average. Deniz Kilicli added 12 points for the Mountaineers, now 12-5, 3-2. West Virginia had a tough time finding the rim, going 32.3 percent overall and 25 percent from 3; the Mountaineers took 24 3-point tries for the game. On the other end, Connecticut shot the ball extremely well, going 26 of 47 overall from the floor for 55.3 percent. The Huskies, which had committed at least 13 turnovers in all four of their BIG EAST games coming into the game, made one less than that while handing out 18 assists. UConn also came into the game with more turnovers than assists as a team.
Notebook
• West Virginia is still winless at UConn, the Mountaineers now 0-9 overall including an 0-4 record at the XL Center.

Kevin Jones scored 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and Truck Bryant added 18 points to lead West Virginia to an 84-60 repeat victory over Rutgers at the WVU Coliseum. The Mountaineers used a 20-3 run over a seven minute stretch in the first half to turn a five-point game into a 22-point lead with 5:32 remaining. West Virginia got its lead to 25 and then to 28 before settling for a 26-point halftime advantage. Rutgers was able to whittle the deficit to 16, 64-48, with 10:51 to go, but West Virginia used another 17-3 run to close out its 13th win of the season and its fourth in conference play. The Scarlet Knights got 15 points off the bench from Myles Mack and 12 points and 13 rebounds from Dane Miller.
